so if you make a special balloon that 1) flies in the air.... anyone that has an object that 1)flies in the air.... is infringing on your patent? I'm not sure this is correct...
You know, you hit a really good point here. Think about it for a sec. Say in some alternate reality it was impossible to make copies of software. Now think of all the people that can't afford $100 for a windows OS and $300 or so for the office suite alone. They would be forced to find an alternative and Linux would THRIVE..... Funny in this perspective now that I'm trying to imagine why MS is trying to stop piracy.......
if 5 people live in a house and all have access to a shared computer and everyone denies knowledge, who do you go after?
It is far easier to get the ISP's to do this. They have been trying for years to take it to the ISPs to scare them into policing because they can't FORCE the ISPs to.
transfering a file isn't considered speech. If this argument was true, then there are hackers that should have never been hassled because they were on dialups.... You do not have free reign just because you are on dial up.
plow your car into a tree once and it'll take care of that obsessiveness... It's nice not having to worry if some idiot hit my car with their door...
We need a new website or magazine called Rental And Track where people do exactly what you did, with all sorts of models and present the results in a table format so we can get the best off road rental car....
"As a German, I am somewhat offended by the continual arrogant attitude of Americans toward the rest of the world. It's strange that a country with a higher infant mortality rate than Thailand has such an attitude"
Please explain this. We have plenty other reasons to be arrogant. This is hardly a strange reason....
"I hate it when you gas-guzzling SUV driving Americans get so patriotic and belittle us. Europe is far superior to America, whether you like it or not."
Well I hate it when people use the formal tense of a conjugation when I've known them for more than a year, so... THERE!!
Go soak your head...

"Consumers demand the right to try before they buy with music"
I'm really on the other bandwagon, but it's called radio. You listen to the radio and if you like the music, you buy it. There are even stores, see, that have headphones that you can listen to music through! And the play music over the loudspeakers too!!/sarcasm off
Most know that it's a fair use loophole that was found years ago that allowed people use warez. That's where this fair use thing started. Then people started downloading mp3s. Most were geeks but needed a way around the laws. Then they just made it so anytime that you download one, you are breaking the law. Unfortunately by this time normal non geeks were understanding mp3's and wanting to download them.
Don't get me wrong. I download mp3s. I download mp3s that I don't own. Unfortunately I gave up buying cd's years ago because they are very expensive and I can't afford it every time I turn around. Put it this way, if mp3s vanished off the face of the earth, I wouldn't buy any more cd's than I do now. *shrug* I just don't buy into all this crap about "try it before I buy it"... try that with clothing or something...see if they'll let you take it home for a week first.... do we get to take the movie home and watch it before we buy it?? This is absurd....
You can do this and it would work for monitoring AIM/Email/Winamp/Whatever, but you would have to Alt+Tab out of counterstrike in order to affect anything on the second screen. It can be done. Look around. Can be done quite cheaply if you look for old laptops that have good displays but bad hardware.
got me thinking...I always have a tail -f messages window open... if the lcd was just a bit longer, I could prolly tape/velcro it right along the top rim of the monitor. I can't imagine that this would be that hard.
Adding a second monitor and video card is a lot simpler.... what am I missing? I see what you mean about space and cost, but as far as how much you'd have to go through, it's really not that hard...
*blows a whistle*
Think...think laptop lcd... NOW think dual headed video card... now think VELCRO... velcro that bad boy to your wall, side of your computer, your head, or even your fuzzy cubicle wall... No extra space...just take down some of your penny arcade cartoons off the wall and you're all set.
The idea that I had for this was that I used dual monitors at work but I still needed to monitor the help desk and calls, so I thought that maybe I could stick a dual head in an old pc, use old laptop lcd's from laptops we were dumping and just velcro (mount) them up on the walls strickly for monitoring network, the helpdesk server errors, and helpdesk queues. 4 monitors in the space of two. Kinda like your own personal NOC.)
The idea that this is actually a case mod struck me as odd. While it could be a case mod, it would actually have a use rather than looking cool. (at first at least) They do show mods on here and this very well could be a cool mod though. My first thought was an external screen though.
So because he lost some of his friends in the WTC, his point that we should lose some of our privacy becomes more valid? I don't think so. I may not have lost anyone there, but I've lost a good number of friends in the military and I'll be damned if I'm going to use that as an excuse for anything. Call me a troll, call me what you want but shit happens. This country was founded on people dying for their freedom. I agree that is was a crap way to buy the farm, and we need to do something about it, but dammit, we fight for freedom. Get it? FREEDOM.
What are you going to fight for when it's all gone?
For 2 1/2 years I couldn't play everquest on anything but a windows box. Next to it sits my linux box. Until the last year or so, you were unable to play EQ on a linux box, and I've already given the damn game up. I'm not saying that there aren't some good games there, but you don't define what game or "type" of game I like to play, I do. If I can't play it on a linux box, then I'm going to play it on a windows box. So this makes me a zealot? While I agree with you that it's very easy to lose yourself in a command window for a few days, you should probably not generalize so much.

no, actually you create a file with a GOOD name and the right size but filled with garbage and wait for them to come after you with a big grin...
; )

advertising for what? that they're vulnerable to hackers? That's hardly advertising that anyone wants....
Karma Whoring as anonymous coward??

I honestly think I would pay to see that....

No more posts from the Anonymous Coward?!?! WOOT!

Why would I want an LDC to tell me what OS and/or what build of IE I'm running?? Should be telling me system performance and processor usage...

Not to mention that our laws are not valid in other countries. We can pass whatever law we want but that doesn't mean anything to other countries.
So because he lost some of his friends in the WTC, his point that we should lose some of our privacy becomes more valid? I don't think so. uhh...anyone else thinking "LAN PARTY!!!" ?
I agree. One quick beer run, get the grill and a lawn chair and I'm good.
