Tell you what.. I am as liberal as the next guy, but this was a direct result of MARKET RESEARCH. Generally stations try and get a feel for what people will find offensive then not play it in advance. It would be stupid to conduct business in another manner.
Pissing off the masses and then waiting for a response isn't a good way to do business. You lose customers that way. Respect is PROACTIVE not passive.
While I strongly disagree with their actions, here are the general reasonings
"Imagine" : The line "imagine all the people" could potentially trigger some bad images of the victims
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" : see above
"Obla Di, Obla Da" : the line "Obla Di, Obla Da, life goes on." could potentially be construed as a disrespect to the seriousness of the situation. as if to say, big deal, move on.
While I totally disagree with governmental censorship, this is an instance of a company trying to be respectful to it listeners. The ban was temporary, and based on the fact that things were hard enough on many people as it is.
So try and keep in mind, that no matter the intention of a song (promoting peace etc...) If the lyrics are taken out of context (say you tune in mid song) I can stir some really upsetting emotions. Last thing I need is someone breaking down in tears on the highway causing a stir when it could be prevented.
Most of the farming industry will illustrate that the efficiency gains in cultivation in a centralized location more than make up for the transportation costs.
While I am a tree huggin hippy myself, hemp uses top soil and is much less efficient than algae.
Now hemp as a renewable PAPER source.. I am all about that.
As much I see the positive uses of hemp, keep efficiency and our limited top soil resources in mind. We currently have an abundance of saltwater and sunlight. 100miles squared is not THAT much to lose. Plenty of space in utah and nevada.
Lots of viable stable chemical storage methods for hydrogen are being produced in sizeable quantities right now. The biggest issue is that they cannot be exposed to oxygen, but that is a simlpe matter of bleed valves and airtight fuel pumps.
you would be amazed at what a good rollcage can do.
An F1 car can hit a SOLID wall doing over 120mph with less damage to a driver than if you hit it in a Humvee with similar velocity. Rollcages and impact zones can do wonders.
Having mass around you helps, but proper design can more than make up for it.
I would gladly own a single person commuter with 4 wheels. I would join a carshare for the other requirements. A 800lbs one seater would be great. I only wish I could ride a motorcycle on ice...
SO hear is my harebrained scheme. I want to catalog every CD I legally own. With reciepts in hand, I will download every song on them from every user I can. I will not share any files. Waiting for the RIAA to attempt to sue me, even though I never downloaded an MP3 illegally (the quality pains my ears, cd's are bad enough).
I make them look like an ass when they ATTEMPT to sue me, and they lose.
Now IANAL, but any of you lawyers out there wanna tell me if this is worth attempting. I would consult a lawyer first, but do you think I have a case for any kind of damages? I have money to front for a lawsuit if it means a good chance of decent return.
Well, with all of that bandwidth, I would imagine that volumetric data feeds of realtime sources with collision detection at high rez could be sent uncompressed, both ways.
This could be quite usefull in the medical field for say, exploratory surgeries. Collision detection could exist 3 dimentionally instead of the current 1D point sensors.
Nurse Jameson, this is Dr. Peter North calling, is the patient prepped for the 'probe'?
Keep in mind that MS has done portble OS's and the like. WindowsCE?
It should be interesting to see how this actually performs. From my experience, MS architecture is really bad at piping data and has do be done with a socket based architecture between apps for communication. This will mean needing to write a lot of code all over.
I hope and pray that MS fails in this field. Not out of spite, but if they were to hypothetically take over the clustered computing field, what kind of liscensing would they use? Per processor? For non DoE or DoD usage, I see this as fairly unfeasable.
Bah, my password at work meets your requirements and rases is a minimum of 5 nonalphanumeric ascii codes. I always add ASCII codes to my passwords when a field will accept them. I mean who is gonna look for '®æÝ' in a password?
I will say this once more. Plant oils are NOT a renewable resource.
As much as I WISH they truly were, they are not. With the current earth population, between food and the amounts of energy needed to be a usefull contribution to energy, we do not have enough top soil to keep up.
Top soil is a limited regenerating resource. Even with crop rotation techniques and fertilization that is already bad for the environment, we would have severe issues keeping up enough top soil. Now, top soil IS regenerating, but it does take TIME to get it.
Wave and wind energy, now there are good candidates for energy. Solar is a joke at this point. I reiterate, at this point.
Now I have this hairbrained scheme, using some sort of capilary action to suck water from the ocean into an artificial lake of some sort, then routing man made rivers, we make lot of hydoelectric plants that are essentialy self supplying.
Just keep in mind LD-50 is the point where HALF of the HEALTHY subjects are dead. Many die well before that, many also get ill. I don't know about YOUR particular physique, but most slashdotters I know in real life (myself included) are not exactly healthy.
Careful man, you could suffer short or long term health effects.
Anywho, I gotta stop typing, my BAWLS with guarana is nearly 45 F, I gotta finish it now.
You won't get much of a deathray if the focal point is a short distance, then you transmit the energey via a microwave beam that can be cut off if trajectory is interupted.
The company selling the product will have to turn in the spammer based on contractual documentations.
Then again the company could just pull the ol' Phoenix technique. Uh yeah, that company went under, as they are putting up the sign for the new company.
You think only people without internet access are able to say whether they need it or not?
I find your lack of compassion humorous, which is what I was getting at.
What part of school requires internet access? Math? Science? History?
All of the above categories are helped by the internet. Many valuable teaching aids can be found online, and many students choose to go beyond learning what is taught at a slow pace in class. Many schools have to cater to the lowest common denominator of student. Giving independent study capabilities in public schools with little money for even books can be quite beneficial to the faster and otherwise bored students.
Do you think schools should be preparing students for McJobs?
My post was pointing out that students not educated about internet related topics can not even get a McJob at best. I figured you would be able to deduce that this means they won't be able to excel past the lowly McJob. It would appear you are more concerned with grammar than content though. I hate to break it to you, this is an internet forum. I suffer from dyslexia, and I would rather worry about making an insightful comment than proofreading a post on a forum rife with bad spelling and grammar.
What email client should schools teach?
I would suggest Outlook or a somewhat similar Open Source alternative, as this is what the current job market will expect you to be able to use. Much like using a pen or pencil, the differences in GUI based email clients are minimal, and most companies have an IT department that configure the more advanced setting on a machine anyways. The concepts of valid email addresses, professional courtesy and forwarding/replying are more important than the details of account configuration. And honestly, if you are going to be using anything more specialized, you won't need that before college.
Sorry if English isn't your native language, but your entire post shows a horrible lack of education. Your abuse of grammar further convinces me that public schools should concentrate on education and leave job training to trade schools. As soon as the American educational system quits churning out illiterate lazy children maybe they should look into expanding the topics taught.
Once again... I have dyslexia and I apologize for this. But this is just an internet forum. I have better things to do than check my spelling and grammar (most of the time). And to further prove this:
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.
Regardless of how well you know your web browser, your post makes you look like an uneducated fast food "lifer."
Regardless of your impeccable grammar and perfect spelling, you still look like an ass when you attack a persons post based on said issues and not the facts at hand. While it is off-topic, I am 21, own a house, a decent car (1999 BMW M3), and have stake (not just stock) in multiple companies. BTW this was accomplished by a foster child with a high school education with no help from any resources than ones I acquired. Now this isn't me having a penis size contest or anything, but it was to illustrate that not all people who don't care all that much about spelling/grammar in a non-professional communication are total losers.
Tell you what.. I am as liberal as the next guy, but this was a direct result of MARKET RESEARCH. Generally stations try and get a feel for what people will find offensive then not play it in advance. It would be stupid to conduct business in another manner.

Anybody who disagrees that the sun produces energy... I have a frensel lens with your name on it.
Most of the farming industry will illustrate that the efficiency gains in cultivation in a centralized location more than make up for the transportation costs.
Think pipelines.

Wonder how this will effect all the rampant pirating of our wares?
I think you would prolly be ok (disclaimer: IANAL, check with one) but do NOT share it if you are worried about legality.
oh, that 'hear' thing was a pun... yeah...
/needs to proofread

Allow non-standard ascii into the password. What cracker is gonna check for '®æÝ'?

Doesn't the saucer portion disconnect for atmospheric flight?
Still way cool though.

Oops, sorry, I just remembered it was on one of the failed systems of the time. You are correct, it was CD-I,
That my friend is why there are subpeoneas :)
The company selling the product will have to turn in the spammer based on contractual documentations.

Good point, most PS2 RPG's and sequels are what are killing Nintendo in the Japanese market.
I find your lack of compassion humorous, which is what I was getting at.
