Is all of slashdot completely retarded this morning? No one confused Java and Javascript as the same thing. They mearly compared the big picture of AJAX and Java, which is portable clientside applications.

Oh, and "There is one thing for sure though... nothing will finally deliver what Java promised. It's dead Jim. JavaSCRIPT on the other hand..." So, you're saying Javascript on the other hand... may fill that promise? Like the summary says? =D Stop coming to Slashdot please.

What are you talking about? Java promised portable client side web applications, applets. They've been slow to catch on at best, and now AJAX has allowed Javascript to be used for portable client side web applications. Think before you speak, this sounds like the knee-jerk response a Highschool teacher tells the website design class. A response which does not belong here.

Two things wrong here. First, wrong market. That's hardcore gamers paying that, not the mass market this will be oriented to. Second, Nintendo doesn't see that $200, $150 or $20, so that doesn't effect their pricing. And don't say "yea it does! because people obviously pay it!" because that will fly for maybe 1 out of every 100 potential buyers. Meeting the true market price is more important.

Never actually owning the game, just renting it via monthly fees? Nixed that, since there is no monthly fees.

While I agree this is great, the fees do NOT affect ownership of the game. Meaning, they pull the servers off line, you're SOL. You're left with a non-functional (mostly) product. Just like EQ and WoW, or any other game. This stems from the ownership of just a client, and no content.
