"oh, and a big fuck you to whomever modded me as flamebait. The ACLU has defended the worst scum on the earth under the guise of 'civil rights' for decades."
Look, I don't like Rush Limbaugh any more than you do, but he deserves his rights just as much as anyone else.
"Fascism begins when the efficiency of the Government becomes more important than the Rights of the People."
Exactly. It always bugs me hen people complain that something "makes the police's job harder" or want to give up rights to make police work easier.
Essentially, that's the whole reason for the existence of the bill of rights - to make the police's work harder. It would be easier if they could just lock everyone up - you'd catch 100% of criminals that way.
U.S. copyright law, as of 1979, does not require a work to be registered in order to be copyrighted. It doesn't even have to have a copyright notification on it. Any work is copyrighted from the moment of creation. hence, this post of mine is copyrighted. Your kid's kindergarten fingerpainting is copyrighted. If you walk down the street and whistle a tune that you made up on the spot, it's copyrighted. So, no certification to show.
I'm not saying this is good, but that's the current law.
Wrong. Atheism is the lack of theism. A-theist. Non-theist. I know many atheists and when pressed we all will say we think the idea of a god existing is wildly improbable given the evidence, but none I know will say with belief that there is no god. If atheism is a belief system then not collecting stamps is a hobby.
Agnosticism is more properly defined as the belief that god is unknowable, or that the question of whether or not there is a god is not a proper question. Sort of a "we can't know so don't ask" position.
The definitions are quite often mangled such as you have done. Start hanging around on Pharyngula.org to get a better idea of what atheists are all about.
Just a follow-up to my previous comment. In the heat of the moment I was perhaps intemperate. You may actually BELIEVE the spin that Plame was not covert and therefore may not yourself have been lying. If that's the case, you seriously need to get informed. You are being lied to.
Whoever moderated this informative is a fucking moron. By its very definition, deliberate misinformation is the opposite of informative. Falsehoods are not informative, Flat out lies are not informative.
Plame WAS undercover. The CIA itself says she was undercover. The only people who say she wasn't undercover and therefore no crime was committed are the people WHO COMMITTED THE CRIME.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. if the law says she was undercover, if the CIA itself says she was undercover, then she was undercover no matter what your talk-radio ideological leader's talking points tell you.
The Aldi stores do it not so much to prevent theft (a person who wants a cart would happily spend a quarter for it.)
The real reason is to encourage people to return the carts to the corral so that they don't have to employ teenage boys to round them up like all the stores used to.
Exactly. Whenever someone trots out that old "don't you think musicians have a right to be paid for their work?" I answer with "no. They have a right to TRY to be paid for their work."
If I decide that my new profession and business model is to sell my feces for $10 a lump, I don't suddenly have a right to earn a living from them. I can just hope and try.
Exactly. Take the word television - half latin, half greek, so right away you can tell the word is not new but rather came down to us from some strange ancient device that allowed visual communication between the nations of Greece and Latium.
I agree. *I'm* not trying to assert that the RIAA doesn't go after the privileged (though lets face it, they wouldn't sue the Bush twins, nor Nancy Pelosi's kids, for using limewire)
I'm just saying that thats what the guy complaining is clearly trying to assert, rather than just being a Bush-hater as the parent poster suggests.
I didn't day privilege has anything to do with the RIAA's decisions, I just said that that is what the guy complaining to the RIAA is obviously trying to assert.
Um... get real. The person is obviously more pissed at the RIAA than anyone, and just trying to point out that there is a privileged class in this country that the RIAA doesn't go after.
Actually, the commercials are the content, the programs are the BAIT. The eyeballs that the bait ensnares are the product that the broadcasters sell to their customers.
So what if Obama wants to ban guns. PRESIDENTS DON'T MAKE THE LAWS. The president has less of a chance of increasing the odds of gun control legislation passing than a single congressman does. A congressman can introduce a bill, and can vote on it. All the president can do is sign it into law once both houses have passed it. So tell me - do you have any idea what your congressman's position is on guns? Your senators'?
The terrorists were not on watch lists that staffers would have ever known about, they were in the country legally, they had valid ID, they weren't carrying any prohibited items, and they had legit tickets. There was NO WAY for the people in Boston to stop them. The security procedures were followed, and the terrorists PASSED them. Given the guidelines of the time, they would not have been stopped in ANY airport in the country.
The people who fucked up were in the Federal Government and the White House.
People always say things like "this will make the police's job more difficult." What people don't understand is that the entire purpose of the Bill of Rights is to make the police's "job" more difficult. That's what its for, and that's why its priceless.

OIC
I'm not saying this is good, but that's the current law.
Without regulation, specifically the breakup of AT&T, we would not have the internet (as we now know it) and all of its economic and social benefits.
I'll explain if anyone bothers to read this and wants me to.

If someone steals your car and uses it to commit a crime, are you responsible?

She was covert according to the CIA. Stop with the lies. It is possible to be a conservative without being a fucking liar.

And then there's bicycle...
At least not until we figure out how to use quantum DASHES along with the quantum dots.
