    The biggest problem I see with compatability with Open/Star Office with Microsoft Office is the macros. They use vb which is proprietary to Microsoft, this isn't a big problem though unless you like to use insecure software.

    they are in a contract for 24.00 a month internet service. Aol is crap and makes computers run like crap. Now they are paying for a computer then paying an exorbitant price for internet that cost between 15 and 20 bucks everywhere else, less in some places. I Don't see how just adding the crappy software makes it a deal anywhere. You will save more in a year getting 15.00 a month internet than what they are saving on the crappy computer they are selling.

    If just 1/3 of the cattle grazing ground were switched to producing vegetable crops, such as soybeans, starvation in the world would be wiped out. there is no need to genetically alter anything. People just need to be less reliant on an unecessary food source.

    hrm to put it bluntly if there is a feature that can be enabled that causes security issues and it hasn't been removed (since this has been know for at least a couple of versions) it is a flaw on Microsofts part. How many Linux servers do you hear about getting hit by a virus and then having a major flaw exposed?

    Wasn't Lexmark trying to do do something like this? Did they win that lawsuit? How is this different than trying to force people to buy their print cartridges? I bought a Lexmark just before that started happening. I would have never bought one if I knew about that

    Sittining in front of the computer doing school work is not private time. If I let my kids go without watching them their grades drop and they start failing classes. There is a place and time for everything. When I stay on top of what they are doing thye do better. It is not because thy can't do the work. Last my son almost failed his freshman year in high school because I was trying to be a little 'permissive' this year I have been trying to limit game time and computer time he is getting straight A's. My daughter, when I let her spend time on the computer her grades suffer. I recently took it away because of this and now her teachers are telling us how there is such a vast improvement her her behavior. I am not the big authoritarian in my house my wife is, but when I see trouble i do intercede where needed.

    Computers in their rooms? The computer should be in a family room designed for homework and studying. It is a tool not a plaything. They should be netowrked and go through where you can watch what they are doing keep logs and let them know that you do. They depend on you to protect and defend them. Do you let them play in the road? Do you give them the keys to your car? Do you buy porn films for them to watch? I agree they should be trusted to a point. I trust my kids, but I don't trust them to take the car to the store at 12, 13 and 15 and I don't trust that they will make the best decisions without some guidance.

    I am sure they take great pains to be very careful these are bacteriophages they attack bacteria. Just think they can work towards creating a virus that is hungry for cancer cells. We may be seeing the first signs of creating viruses that will eat oil spills or something equally great.

    And Microsoft software isn't buggy? I have so many more problems with bugs in Microsoft software than I ever thought about having with the software I use everyday on my linux desktop. You can set linux to boot to a gui give all the programs that are needed and you are all set. Who cares ifit inter operates with Windows if you never use the crap. Linux, when it is set up right is so much more secure and stable it isn't worth messing with Windows. The Linux desktop is ready if you ask me. If a person doesn't know anything except what he was introduced to first then that is what he will find easy to use. Just because more people are used to Windows does not mean that it easierto use. If I never do anything with Windows then it si easy. The minute you have to do anything serious it gets harder and harder and Joe Schmoe off the street gets just as lost as if you had asked him to compile a program.

    They make labels for cd's?
    I don't think I have ever used labels. To much work. I am lazy by nature. Hehe I have cd's that I never even wrote what was in them. I will sit here once in a while and put the cd's in to see what is on each one and write what is on them or chuck them.

    THis will never work for Microsoft. You have to pay them for money to get anywhere in the listings they have now. How will that change? All you will get is a list of high paying advertisers. Microsoft is to greedy they will never make it in the search engine business.
