  1. Re:Keys lipid hypothesis is dead... on McDonald's UK CEO Blames Video Games for Childhood Obesity · · Score: 1

There's the perception out there that your body is a black box: if (caloriesIn > caloriesOut) then getFat(); else getSkinny(); but its more complicated than that. Weight Watchers/LA Weight Loss/Herbal Magic/etc. all try to help you get to a better weight by reducing your caloric intake to ~1500 calories per day (average a normal adult male needs without heavy exertion is ~2000).

Yes, eggs, sausage and pancakes will go a long way to keep you moving. But the difference is, your body will absorb what it needs from the eggs and the sausage, but it will take in all the pancakes. When the carbs from the pancakes aren't use right away, it raises your blood sugar, which raises your insulin levels, which causes your fat cells to absorb the carbs (and turn them into fat). And of course, when your body needs energy to do work, the last thing that it goes after are your fat reserves. What you eat has a big effect on whether you get fat or skinny. It's not fat that makes you fat, its sugar/carbs.

Every type one diabetic teen girl knows that if she wants to fit into that dress for the big dance, all she has to do is stop taking her insulin, all the low carb thing is doing is taking advantage of that phenomena.

Anecdotally - I'm a big guy, and I've done the low fat thing, the 1500 calorie thing, and the low carb. I gained a frack load of weight eating low fat (try eating nothing but spaghetti for a week and see what happens), I've struggled with the 1500 calorie thing and gone nowhere, and I've had great success with the low carb thing.

What is not pointed out very often is that there were two companies that provided the initial data for street view. One did San Francisco (where all the funny shots of identifiable people are seen). The other company has done all the other cities so far.

That second company has dropped the resolution down so far that you can't recognise the people unless they are standing on the roof of the camera-car AND has taken their data set and scrubbed it of images that easily identify other people and vehicles where they have been close enough to recognise.

This second company is the one that is providing the data to Google in Canada and 99% of the US. Check out any city BUT San Francisco on Street View.

Many of these people could be in private industry where they could earn more with the skills and experience that they have. It's called the Youth Criminal Justice Act (formerly the Young Offenders Act). While it allows us to prosecute 12-17 yearolds. It also denies the possibility of prosecuting an under 12 yearold. This is based upon the presumption that someone under the age of majority (18) is less competent in making decisions about right and wrong, and less responsible. It also presumes that someone under the age of 12 is totally incompetent in right and wrong an not responsible at all.

One of the effect of this is gang members will influence the under 12's to commit certain acts (be it shop lifting or jacking the car for the joy ride) because they are immune. And some under 12's will do things because they know they can get away with it now and not later in life.

My personal feeling on the YCJA is that there shouldn't be an absolute cut-off at 12 years. However, the burden of proof/seriousness/etc. should be even higher for the under 12 yearolds.
