If the government were to decree today that a national program with federally subsuized grants would be paid for every homeowner to put solar cells on their house at an extremely cheap price, than there might be hope. The current programs actually penalize a homeowner for producing excess capacity. If the government did that, then the middleast would begin to rethink some of their strategies. Most of the people in the US would be off the grid and mostly seof sufficient. Other alternatives could be fuel cells, wind power and new nuclear reactor designs. Of course, fusion research too...

I just sold an Eagle Summit that routinely got 37 around town and 41 on the highway. I beleive it had a mitsubishi 1.6 liter 4cyl with a 5speed transmission. After driving that 1994 around for many years, it perpelxes me that the hybrids don't get much higher gas mileage than that. And another point, you have to replace the batteries in a hybrid after five years. There goes all of your gas savings.....
The guy is a President of an Engineering University. Is enrollment is down between 20-50% based on nationwide trends. Of course he is going to push a positive forecast to push enrollment up. But the kids are not buying it. I wonder what a good field is these days in the US?
What kind of upload time are you looking at with the average camera phone set to it's highest resolution? The bandwidth on these phones is not that high. I am not sure if the person posting this really thought about that. I am not going to sit and wait an extremely long time using my minutes up for a picture to upload.
Looks like the recent AMD press and popularity has forced Intel to rethink its business strategy.
Here is my most recent ocrrespondence with Dell Sales Support. You should find it amusing:
Problem Description:
I am in the market for an AMD machine. I have been browsing your website but can't find an AMD processor-based machine. Do you sell any AMD
machines? If not, I will shop elsewhere. Thank You.
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for choosing Dell Online Consumer Customer Care.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused with regard to this issue.
I have looked through your e-mail and show that currently Dell is not
offering AMD machines. I have forwarded your message to management and I assure you they will look into this issue and will work on making
improvements based on your feedback.
Once again, I apologize and truly regret any frustration this matter may have caused. Thank you for your patience and understanding. They are

I graduated Rutgers in 2000 with a degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering. I remember the CS degree as being much less intensive with regards to math. If I recall correctly, schools in the area, including Rutgers, only required up to Calculus 1 or 2 to graduate. That is why many students flocked to the major. Many of the students who could not hack the engineering went that route.
I was filtering through some old catalogs myself from the early 80's. I was amused at the ads for graphics and printers of the time. The idea of color was a long way off. The video game ads were also extremely entertaining. We have come a long way since then, and also taken may steps backwards. I wonder what I will be thinking about catalogs from today in 2024?
It certainly appears as if this distro will branch into a profit-making enterprise/home edition. I have been using this distro for some time now and am impressed with Portage. I would certainly entertain the idea of investing into them if it went public.
Yes, sort of. At Lockheed Martin there is a UNION called ASPEP (The Association of Scientists and Profession Engineering Personnel). www.aspep.com It represents the Engineers and Computer programmers at the company.
Sounds like the V-Chip in the televisions but only a step further. As long as the technology does not go any further, I do not see any real problems with this. This would be good for parents with young children. I can see the potential for industry abuse for this in the future.
It will be a mojor help to both the administrators and the hackers. But this is not a readical change from the current situation. Hackers and Crackers already employ many of the same tools for troubleshooting and other less legitimate purposes.
Isn't that an oxymoron? I was reading an interview the other day that Gates has shifted the company's #1 priority from Longhorn to security. This is another major blow for Microsoft. But, since when has the help menu actually ever been useful anyway?
No, they went through the effort. I just think Micrsoft is the first company in history that the government can not afford to take on in a legal battle.
And in other related news: Microsft, SCO and the RIAA have teamed up to counter this threat by sucking up all of the countries legal and technical resources in a frivolous and long-term legal battle.
On a more serious side, it is about time a country gets tough on this subject. My biggest fear is that Japan will not be able to counter these international economic threats. The U.S. government was not even powerful enough to take on Microsoft.
Their best bet is to cooperate in the Asian market with OpenSource. Have you ever seen or used Asian versions of Microsoft products? They are even worse than the American counterparts. It is no wonder they are feeling a bit angry. My prediction is that the Asian market is going to give BIG Corporate American business a big surprise in coming years.
No, use the Europa probe technique proposed to melt through the Europan surface. Balically a heated pill that would melt its way down to the river. Once inside it could transmit information back. This would eliminate the oil contamination.
Would I really trust Comcast, my high speed internet cable modem provider, to provide a reliable enough internet connection to gaurantee a 911 call? I can't even rely on them to provide uptime on a day to day basis. What happens when the network goes down? How would I contact Comcast customer service to place a 911 call for me when my network is constantly down? I can't wait for WiMax to catch on in local communities. Then I will be free from my dependence on Comcast for my broadband. They are the only game in town for me.

The diet is a very healthy one. Do not listen to people that are not fully educated on how it really supposed to work.
I eat as much as I want, just differenlty and have lost and kept off the weight. I eat lots of vegatables and a good amount of meat. I stay away from the junk food. Junk food consists of anything with sugar content, chips, cookies, white bread (whole wheat is ok), pastas and white rice.
A typical week for me is a huge salad for lunch with some tuna, chicken salad, nuts and regular italian dressing. Dinner consists of chili, chicken and vegetables, steak and vegetables, or just vegies. I stay away from the pototoes and have corn only once or twice a week. All other vegetables I pretty much have as much as I want.
Breakfast consists of eggs, bacon, pork roll sausage or a little fruit. Yes, you can have fruit on the diet, just dont pig out because it does have sugars.
The diet worked for me and all I did was eat differently, not less.
I was reading interesting article comparing the diets around the turn of the century and today. The average american's sugar content is over 20 times that of back then. And their simple carbohydrate intake is also soaring. It is no wonder we are an obese society.
Sugar gets directly metabolized by the body and if not used for energy gets formed into fat immendiately. Simple carbohydrates (usually anything man made, a good rule to go by) such as white breads, pastas, chips etc.... get metabolized very quicly into sugars, then fat. Complex carbohydrates are a little different (vegetables....pretty much all of them including mushrooms) are not converted to fat in such a manner.
This diet is healthy and almost perfectly logical when you look back in the past history of man and how we evolved. It is based on moderation. Our society is a carb and sugar rich consumer. That is not moderation. Man was not meant to eat like the food pyramid suggests. The food pyramid just makes the junk food manufacturers rich and you unhealthly.
It is also very strange to now not really looking at the fat content on labels. It goes against everything I was taught gowing up. But it works and I have not fealt this great in years. I am thin and keeping the weight off. The best part is I did not have to excersize at all to lost the weight. Just eat differently in the same quatities I was eating previsouly. I hope this clears up some misconceptions and gives you a guideline to anyone interested making themselves more healthy.
This reminds me of good old Mike Rowe.

I guess Bush will now invade China.
Looks like another stifled and regulated monopoly to me. So much for innovation in this industry. This looks like a bad case precedent.
This is still if we have the space shuttles still flying and there are any left by 2010.

Actually, it is to make the stockholders more money, which in turn give kickbacks to the executives.
