But they do. The GNOME developers are just refusing to use C++ libraries regardless of whether they use KDE features or not, and KDE developers see no reason to develop libraries in inferior languages.

The issue crops up time after time on freedesktop.org. Using glib is "okay", but libstdc++ is evil.

The IBM 970 PowerPC is the POWER 4 processor, scaled down a bit to allow for cheaper massproduction, and with Altivec instructions added.

Btw. When IBM first announced the 970, it was promoted as the IBM processor for Linux desktops and workstations, it was only when Apple opened their eyes and embraced it that the focus changed.

For KDE to use GStreamer, we would need to have two event-systems and two object-systems and a patch to translate between them. Or in other words an invitation to crap.

A bit pessimistic, I think. KDE 3.3 is scheduled for december 2004 if released on time, and talks are going for making it only 3.2 and half, to give more time for KDE 4.0. That would mean summer 2004. Xfree86 4.4 is already in RC2, with the core-team out the way 4.5 should be out by the end of 2004 too. Also Xserver at freedesktop.org is way more interessting than Xourvert, and should make a lot of splash in 2004.
