A good example of this is the Linux kernel, those who want everything to work perfectly can use the stable(2.4.x at the moment) feed. Those who want the latest cutting edge features can use the unstable(2.5.x at the moment) feed.
Stable feeds are only updated to fix bugs and get no new features, so it doesn't have anyone introducing new bugs.
Try getting support for Solaris after M$ buys Sun. You'll be able to bitch on IRC for BSD help years after all the funding is cut and SCO sues the different BSD forks.
Stability is also a good reason to switch. You won't need support for Linux if the admin knows what he's doing or chooses a beginners distro like Mandrake. Microsoft OTOH won't tell you that foobar~1.dll must be updated for NT 5(.5) the day after it's retired.
IIRC, many companies provide Linux support agreements. The submitter should look into those.
Maybe Apple would release J2DK1.4.1 for Linux/PPC if they buy Sun.
If M$ buys it, we're screwed. Java will suck complete ass within a month.
As for OS X Server on UltraSparcs, the problem of software arizes. Just like NT on Alpha, the majority of software would be built for the "original" architecture. A closed source OS can't thrive on two architectures at once.
this uses public-key encryption, which may be an "easy" algorithm but is certainly not secure because given enough clock cycles, the public key can be used to derive the private key. I suspect the NSA has enough computing power to start packet sniffing a particular target within hours if not minutes of this going up.
that all the unix companies, not just SCO and IBM, have an agreement that entails this. If that's the case, Sun or Apple could probably pick where SCO will leave off once it's bought.
Granted I have some rage issues, but doesn't it just piss you off when you middle click on winshit in M$IE only to get some damn scrolling icon instead of pasting text!!!!!!!

Many apps and distros offer multiple feeds.

Ever used OpenServer? It's a complete bitch.
They might come after BSD when they're done with IBM.
isn't endorsing this one. I don't think it'll do that well.

select the text, middle click in a consol to paste it, and remove the spaces because the filter sucks ass.
That's not a crash or downtime, it's "scheduled maintenance" that you weren't informed about.
just run an http proxy through a serial port so that the windows system can't use any other type of connection.
I'd like to see zone alarm beat that! My solution wouln't give any modal dialog boxes either.

is HTTP 1.1; I doubt it'll be long before XMMS has a client for it.
Windows has allowed people to login as Administrator for more than a decade with no ill effects. It's "More Secure than a Bank Vault."(tm)</sarcasm>
One can just send a public key out to anyone who wants it.
It has nothing to do with the mathematics of the algorithm, which are also rather trivial. Ever seen Cube? Kazan could crack such keys mentally!
Maybe I could solder a signal amp onto my airport card and wap to get longer range?
Better yet, I mercilessly slaughter ever 2.4ghz cordless phone for causing interference with my wifi.

I bet I could get some nerds to build one of these and send a hamster into space.
As the apprentice of Prof. Chaos said, "SIMPSONS DID IT!!!!"
or clarification of the term "distribution"
I'm gonna call the manufacturers of all my embedded stuff now. Wasting company time is a great hobby, I recommend it for everyone.

I think they're just being sore losers, but if nonGPL code has entered Linux, I'd like to see it removed.
It's not that I don't want the code, but it can't be that hard to replace. I'd appreciate something more usefull like Apple's secret HFS+ code.
I read the gutenburg versions of Frankenstein, 1984(best book ever), and a few others on my TI 89.
to detach a human retina!?
How can the driver code w/out his eyes!? Oh, forgot that others put national fame above coding. What nerds.
So I didn't have to "wget -r" their entire FTP server from the local college's multiple T3 lines? Sorry guys.
(Just a joke, no need for you to do the same to my server.)

you'll be lucky if it can read an audio cd correctly. Momma Sony always said, "Burning DVDs is da DEVIL!"
but can I display a TTY one one of these things, and what's the resolution from any given viewpoint?
