a developer for writing the software. "make install" still works of course, and is essentially the same as running an installer app, with cross platform support.
Type a url into into konqueror, mozilla, netscape, or the piece of shit browser. It's autocompleted based upon recent popular requests.
Hit tab in Zsh(my favorite), Bash, etc. That autocompletes based upon possible values.
Autocompletion that orders upon request is a trivial improvement, especially in a server-side environment where "sharing between users" really means "ignoring $userid".
I have a new version that sends a list of the top 50 completion terms with the page rather than checking everything when needed. I expect my patent for it oon enough.:-)
is more than just NT 4. There's also NT3.51, that only I seem to remember. 2000 is really NT5, and XP is really NT5.1.
Software installation kicks ass in Linux. My debian boxes can get all the software it needs online. A single command (or three clicks in gnome-apt) can install/remove nearly any program I know of. If you mean installation of commercial programs, Microsoft seems to have the advantage because of autorun(a security hazard) and not having broken binary compatbility (in theory, try running a V4W app in NT5).
Put the source onto disc with a Makefile and an optional tcl/tk installer. It'll work a decade from now.
does NFS have trouble with user permissions such as a user having different numbers on different system? Is it secure enough to share a common passwd file?
If no one has heard of it they can't make fun of it. Until they realize that I haven't gotten around to loops in the released version yet:-)
I think that varied languages are a necessity. It'll be better when.jar files can be executed from the console, J2dk for Linux/ppc version 1.4 is released, caffeine springs from trees, and C++ no longer requires the programmer to deal w/ pointers. Oh yeah, and all BASIC interpretters are dumped into Sol.
If I have everything on one processor, the different calls make the cache nearly useless. With SMP, I can put mathematica onto a processor of its own. With cache allowing for lightening fast ram calls, the speed increase is unbelieveable.
We developed compressed audio formats to combat the mindless crap that makes it onto the radio.
Now we are using a processor with many million transistors to take the place of a single transistor radio. Anyways, this is a cool accomplishment, with or without a practical application.
My 80 column video card says that it's top of the line, and it isn't nearly as expensive as this stuff.
The hole in my wallet seems to be filled. I don't play games, so I don't need more modern hardware. I keep movies on disc, so I don't need a larger hard disk. My zaurus covers all my portable media needs. About all I have left to get is a scsi tape drive, but discs cover my backup needs.
We could put Bill G.'s face onto the commie characters, and get NEW cartoons that relate to modern issues WITHOUT drawing anything or paying the Flash MX registration fee.
It would kick some royal ass if I could grab all the unused bandwidth at 3:00 am when I'm the only one awake. Dynamic allocation based upon usage is an important part of sharing.
Another idea is a singular server for file sharing with the outside work so that you dont waste bandwidth with 100+ gnutella nodes through your T1.
All this has been done before. If I run a dreamcast memory chip server from my car, will I be the center of attention on/. despit it already having been done?
"Sigmoidal" is not present in "Dumb and Dumber's Fifth Grade Word Looker-Upper" and therefore should not be used in your post. "Exponential" does mean "big big" according to the looker-upper, and "journalists" should be replaced with "writer downers."
The preceding changs will make your post suitable for reading by the 97% of our society. The remain 3%, illiterate and UNIX Wizards, don't buy stuff; therefore they aren't a usefull part of society and can be ignored.
but wait until the RIAA starts charging in advance for piracy. They can do $15 for an album, or charge $15000 per song ammounting to $1,485,000 for a single recordable disc (99 possible tracks).
Does the Bible say that life was only made on Earth? Not that I've found. Nor does it say that Earth is the center of the solar system, galaxy, or universe. Nor does it say that all species were created as they are today, and haven't evolved since.
Why do we assume that life on other worlds would have the same requirements as life on earth?
We were either created for this world or evolved into what we are by it. Doesn't it make sense that life on other worlds would be fit for theirs in the same way?
Why is water so damn important? Couldn't life be based upon a different liquid than water? A different solid than carbon?

If you need help getting motivated, just get onto a project whose code you can share w/ your own projects.
/. with ghostzilla.
Then again, it might be easier to IM friends and browse
Google pagerank. Oh wait, prior art doesn't mean shit these days!
Anyways, software patents seem to just be ignored these days. I can't remember the last time I paid Unisys for using a GIF...

If you want to learn ruby slowly by example, check out osnippets.org's ruby section.
turn html into plaintext. < become < and stuff like that.
like Oprahism?
Anyone remember the Star Trek religion on futurama? All the worshippers were killed by being tossed into volcanoes, the method most befitting virgins.

just put 500mb of data and many gb of zeros onto each side of each disc. I'm convinced that's why Stargate is double-sided.

Is there any "must have" Linux hardware?
copied the term SuperUser from the SuperMan comics.
Copying is the sincerest form of plagurism.

/.ed already, and not a single post! Hope someone mirrored it.
I suspect the downtime is from limited bandwidth rather than a webserver crashing, though on such limited resources I may be wrong.
because we all know that the cost of the OS isn't included with the hardware...
Now we'll be able to sniff out Bender's alchohol-breath from across the known universe!
Oh damn, this is just a fancy breathalizer.
