So you can hack Windows once you're in... wow. I agree with MS on this one, this isn't either new or a vulnerability, per se. It is annoying, but that's how it goes. Besides using a proggie to up your rights once you own a box is silly, if you owned the box correctly you'd be root/Administrator and then it wouldn't matter now would it?
It's a community college, folks, that means SMALL.
I'd be more impressed if it was ISU or U of I that did this..and I'm an Iowan!
Although the paperless idea is great, I just don't think it can (or ever will) fly. Call me pessimistic, but people just like paper.
Just curious, and I doubt anyone will ever find out, but I wonder if the planned attacks on 9/11 were partly planned because of the (misinformed) belief that the UNIX systems would fail?
Prob'ly not, but that just hit me. (Now don't YOU hit me!)
Shouldn't the opposite be happening? Global Warming is being blamed for the melting of the polar caps, if that's the case then shouldn't the gravitational field be even more round?
Now that we have this story, I wonder if he'll back down from the "we'll help you" part? Good Faith being what it is, I don't have much faith in the government to do the right thing in this case...I bet white-hats still end up with the shaft.
I've been waiting for this! I'd have a new HDTV by now if it weren't for the problem of finding one with an integrated digital tuner (and the other problem of add on boxes). Finally a bit of legislation that I agree with! W00!
Ok, let's say you have a new (or freshly formatted) computer. You're trying to get it on your network, but the NIC driver is not in the default list, so you have to download the driver (a file less than 1MB in size) onto a computer already up and running then transfer that driver to the new computer. How ya gonna do that?
CD? Sure that'll work, but it's a bit overkill.
Floppy is the answer. For 10$ it's a good thing to have, comes in handy, and if you don't use it think of it like insurance.
Have shown about a 2% reduction in mass, not too shabby, but as has already been pointed out that's not much help either. But keep this in mind: the tests used ceramic discs that were, what, maybe an inch (or 2.54 cm for those metric types) across? Ok, cool. What happens if we make this with a disc, say, 24 meters (or metres) across? Who knows? Damn thing might fly. Point is, nobody has tried this at scales of that size. So this costs the various companies a couple of million (maybe a billion) to research. If it fails, it's a valid R&D expenditure and therefore a Capital Gains loss (tax break); but if it works... the flow of cash will make Gates look poor. I want to see this researched more, especially at really large scales.
We (that means every "netizen") abandon all P2P systems that currently exist, create a new one wherein the EULA (which you must accept for the software to install) demands that you not be employed by, be an agent of, or in any way represent the MPAA/RIAA under penalty of having to pay all other members $250000 (USD)? Additionally, state in the same EULA that all client comptuers that connect to the network are to be considered to be equally protected. [All for one, one for all] They join, we find out, they get sued (class action) we all win money, they then get booted out of the system (their id key is negated) and we go back to our fun. All we'd need to do is make sure the servers (or the like) were hosted outside the USA.
There are plenty of organizations that can deny membership based on application. We'd just be doing the same...VPN style, that's all. Throw in a real BBS/communication system and we *look* like a real, viable community. Copyright the client software (under DMCA) and they can't reverse engineer it. Viola! No holes!;)
Oh, but that would be illegal, wouldn't it?
This law better not pass, because it'll open a bajillion lawsuits.
I love how companies are "do as we say, but not as we do." Just makes me sick. This sort of thing totally kills my buzz from being American.

Well, unfortuantely, *they* (congress) live by themselves in a fantasy land. As a result I have a motto: 12 years and GONE! That works out to 3 terms for the House and 2 for the Senate. Not too shabby.
I believe in term limits. I also believe that the State that they are representing should be the ones to vote on if they get a raise (take that power from them!--God how I wish I could vote myself a raise!)
I've written to my 2 senators many, many times. I get nice form letters in return. I've told them many, many times that they suck. That I was voting against them next time. They keep winning, darn it. I swear, if it comes down to it I'll run against them myself. Of course I'd need lots of money to do that.... kind of a problem since I don't make that much. (Thus the need for the raise!)
I say, let's vote them all out. Screw it. If there is an "I" next to their name, they should be tossed out. That's not a bad idea.

What kind fo crap is this? (No, not the crap in my Subject line--that's German), rather this "There's a rule, see, but nobody can point it out to you as it's never been written down, and we're not sure who told us to do it, but you broke that rule so you're in trouble."
Gilmore needs to get all his legal funds behind this one and push it to the wall. Advertise in papers, make a stink in the national news. Force the feds to either stop use of this "law" or make them point out the actual code to the world.
If it doesn't exist, it is a violation of the unreasonable search and seizure requirements.
Does that mean that a burglar is only curious about what's in your house/apartment/condo/whatever? Or that a pickpocket is only curious as to what is in your wallet?
Crime is crime, it doesn't matter how one justifies it.
Look, it's very simple: you (plural, that means everyone--myself included) do NOT have any rights whatsoever to perform malicious actions using a computer against anyone for any reason. That's what this law says. Any one of you claiming otherwise is WRONG. If you feel that *somehow* you do have the right, you're already screwed up in the head ("Friggin' in the riggin'!")
Some of you said that any system that is critical (nuclear power, 911 systems, Armed forces, etc.) should not be connected to the Internet...hello recall DARPA? Who was "here" first? Not you, bucko. Sorry, if anything, it is YOU who do not deserve to be connected to the Internet.
Your logic is faulty, people.
Don't break in to systems, don't disrupt communications, don't plot against others and you'll be fine.
Bunch of paranoid "gimme" freaks is all you are. Can't deal with the truth?! Get out.
Is to declare domain names just like the old west claim "Fisrt come, first serve." If you're late, you lose. End of story. The only exception would be with internationally known brand-names (like "Coke", "Pepsi" and "Gerber's", for instance.) Now, under my plan, the "Canadian.biz" guy would win, Molson would get slapped, and all would be right.
On second thought, why don't we just set all routers to deny traffic to and from Canada. It's not like they do anything anyways...;)
I'm American. Can I take America.biz, or is some one claim that just "cuz"?
"At least I can't make a windows machine stable enough to run Neverwinter or my brain would be toast."
If you're that inept, we don't WANT you playing NWN. Look, it's simple: get good hardware, install either Windows 2000 or Windows XP (pro, not that home crap), and then install all the newest drivers, then install NWN. Then patch NWN to 1.19.
Wow, that was hard. Clueless moron.
My company bought one copy and we installed it on a PIII800 with 256MB Ram. The first thing we did was install Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1.
That worked. But Outlook 2000 doesn't run in CW mode because the SPX release doesn't support mapping of network drives nor does it support network browsing. IMO they need to get those two things running before it's even worth looking at for anyone.
Why use Ksoher salt? WHy not just compensate for the correct amount of regular granular salt?
