that would make sense: they could publish an updated book every other week:)
> a large group of people
yes, but the more people you address, the more might be pissed off... what do you think would happen if they had something like "Best OS ever" and it would [by popular demand, lmao...]be Windows ?!;)
now that is one heck of a good question - so you don't know, either? I feel better already...
apart from that, exactly why is this news on/.? the drive itself has already been covered here, and as you say, theres little a geek could get out of the guinness book. their beer is ok, but that's about it.
great example of how powerful POV has become - it's quite amazing what you can do with it with just a few bytes of code. a very geeky contest with amazing results, but only a few/.ers seem to care (judging from the number of posts - even the trolls don't care...). guess i'll comfort myself with rendering some of the scene files from the site...
don't underestimate: i've had people on the phone unable to find - the blue e quickstart icon - the start button - their desktop. give them a search engine built into their OS and you can be absolutely sure that it will be used. plenty.
or, as you might put it: build something idiot proof, and only idiots will want to use it. of course, these guys are rather unlikely looking for XFree86 or else would be glad to find some pr0n.
like guns? or a boob in public tv? cars?
come on, it really doesn't take that much to get You all riled up!
sorry for being such a smartass, - i'm not an expert on european free speech issues either and i also think europeans have a lot less to worry about (maybe because there's no common government, but mainly for being old Europe) - but the perspective makes the difference here, i guess. if you as a US citizen worry about something, what do you think that particular something might cause in
an immigrant
a muslim
some poor (rich) sucker (smartass) who only understood half of (twice as much) the problem
> 9/11 has certainly made it a little more difficult
a lot more difficult than necessary IMO. and i think there's a strategy behind that, and it's already transforming your country and people and the rest of the world. thus my sig.
agreed. i do think that the rudeness with which things can be done in the US is of an altogether different quality, though.
> in America its a lot easier
uhm, not sure. wouldn't you agree that there's quite a lot of things you'd rather not speak out in public? not exactly for fear of being prosecuted by your government, but that happens, too (cf. anti war protesters and the likes).
> terminal apathy
well, that seems to be a widespread disease all over the planet - still i'd admit that some of your fellow citizens really do seem to lead the table;)
wrong. i live there (europe) and that should do. never mind my ideals, twisted as they might be.
let me guess, too: you usually judge people by their sig or some other irrelevant feature and only draw conclusions that seem to help your argument. wrong?
you know, whenever europeans read such stories, there comes that awful feeling again - that something within the US must be terribly wrong and - what is more - only a few people seem to care or even notice.
Was I abducted by aliens and brought to Bizarro world
no need to bring you there - and no aliens involved, either;)
see the link in my sig if you care to see how the authorities made such things possible. (check each of the "14 Defining
Characteristics" you recognize, count checks and post your results;)
since any form of alien life might present a danger to society, it is not unlikely that the discovery of alien (inteligent) life will not make it to the news. from the article:
Instead of getting a handshake from the head of NASA, it will be handcuffed by an FBI agent dressed in a Biosafety Level 4 suit. Instead of sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House, the alien will be whisked away to the Department of Agriculture's Animal Disease Center on Plum Island, off the coast of New York's Long Island. Here it will be poked and probed by doctors from the National Institutes of Health. A Department of Energy (DOE) Nuclear Emergency Search Team (NEST) will tow away its spacecraft.
not sure if that's true for the soview government and some presumed hard-bitten microbe on venus, though.
since the press release is a little light on details: presently, 70% of Opera Software ASA are held by its employees. They hope to make some 8 to 12 million euro (9 to 13 million US$) by going public. must be fun working there:)
so why didn't you post it now? i guess enough/. readers are sufficiently bored by the coffee question - let alone the comments - and you'd get quite a few replies;)
or you might try and submit a poll for a change...
without even reading the complete post: there's no such thing as instant coffee, just like (unfortunately) there's no instant water for obvious reasons.
coffee can't be produced instantly, it must be prepared with great care, coffee beans and hot water. don't do instant stuff, it's bad for your health and will eventually wreck your sense of taste.
um, i thought, that's the concept: you use your real name because noone in his clear mind would not use a fake name. since everyone would expect a fake name, you might just as well use your real one. so actually, we're looking for andy.
even more, since he didn't give a last name, we can infer that in fact he does have a last name (otherwise he'd faked it!). clearly, if your andy is called just andy and nothing more, that's not the guy.
as stupid as a virus-writer
um, i thought that a considerable amount of skill and experience is necessary to create such successful pieces of software. yes, a virus is primarily a pest, but its also code - good code in the case of cleverly written viruses and worms.
that would make sense: they could publish an updated book every other week :)

you can include yourself: just sue your isp for delivering all that unsolicited junk to you.
oh, a link to slashdot!
oh, a link to slashdot!
oh, a link to slashdot!
oh, a link to slashdot!
right. still kinda ambiguous, though. anyways, the motto is, don't trust any statistics you have not faked by yourself.
here too: who would have guessed they exist?!
or is this just proof of how meaningless the survey is?
256 Mb to 512 Mb - 53.66 %
um, why would someone like MSFT want to do that?
online, only msn france has some fancy keyword charts (might take a while until french /. readers' xfree searches turn up there):
ie only
(won't work with opera, for obvious reasons)

because they can?
well, if that correlation comes as a surprise, i'm no longer surprised! just look what prohibition did to the alcohol business!

won't work with xp home / w2k non-pro AFAIK

well, at least you can get the certificate without taking the tests ;)
better still: "Do you really want to ignite the airbag? Yes No Cancel" :)
post is an honorable variation of this, for those who care.
