Because the Earth is constantly being bombarded by cosmic rays.
From wikipedia: Cosmic rays can have energies of over 10^20 eV, far higher than the 10^12 to 10^13 eV that man-made particle accelerators can produce.
The LHC will merely achieve energies of of 7*12^eV. Therefore it's no big deal. So if it is going to make mini black holes, Higgs bosons, or whatever kind of doomsday particle, they are already being produced in the upper atmosphere all the time.
Of course IT should unionize. If you unionize you'd get overtime pay. Most IT people don't even get overtime that they are legally entitled to.
And if we don't like outsourcing we can stop it with strikes. It'll work because they can't stop the company from functioning this year just to save money for next year.
Will IT unionize? Probably not. There are plenty of shrill libertarian types who all think they are headed for upper management. Even on this site, you see tech workers cheering for lay-offs and fewer job opportunities. They usually say absurd things like it's good because they'll only fire people who don't love tech or only untalented people are hurt by a slow economy.
I also think a lot of the problem is IT workers are usually doing very well or very poorly. When they do well money is thrown at them so why unionize? When it's bad, they are just scared of being fired.
And if you happen to be an H1-B you're scared of being sent home. It's not like there's even a pretense companies want to pay them their value.
Well it sounds like your never more than half a mile from the outer wall (assuming you're on the ground floor). So that raises the question, can I go out for bike rides and some jogging?
If I can I wouldn't mind living there. After all, I'd barely have to spend any time commuting to work.
Terrorists are more sensational. But Iran has resources because of the oil trade. They are annoyed by the treatment of the Palestinians and U.S. involvement in the middle east. And this is all fueled by the U.S. thirst for oil.
And don't be a fool. A lot of people will die over peak oil. It's so funny that conservatives talk about how Russia invaded Georgia to control the oil supply, but deny that the U.S. invaded Iraq and Afghanistan for the same reason, and deny that running out of oil matters on the world stage.
They are turning into a first world country and developing technology. The U.S. is getting anxious to take them down so it can continue to do whatever it feels like in the region.
It's so funny, everyone wants to complain about the enrichment of nuclear technology, but no one wants to develop alternative fuel technology.
Remember Iran has oil, good for fueling vehicles and making plastic. Nuclear plants make electricity. It is highly unusual to burn oil for electricity. And Iran does have a constantly growing need for electricity.
Ummm....

IM can increase productivity in ways nothing else can. Can it detract from productivity? Sure, but I could do that equally well without it (e.g. solitare, slashdot).
The U.S. should make aggressive postures towards Cuba so that they are too scared to open their society and will look to a strong man for defense. Great idea, huh?
The summary states all children conceived this way would have a high risk of birth defects. But the article only states that there is a high risk of birth defects if the same woman is both the mother and father. It does not say anything about a high risk of birth defects if two people make a child that way.
Because the Pentagon has too much money, that's why.
With the U.S. military budget, the burden of proof rests on people who are against spending on any particular project.
But it would be even better to spend lots of money on alternative energy research. It would generally have the same benefits as space exploration. Spin-off technology, stimulating a the development of the middle class, etc. And of course we eventually have alternative energy, which could be of almost unlimited value.
Go to Cartridge World, or even Walgreens now. They will refill your ink very cheaply. You need to print a couple of pages to get the ink to come out, but after that, it is as good as new.
The purpose of this machine is forecasting and meteorological research, which imho is a reasonable thing for the nation of Iran to do.
Granted this just what they say the computer is for, but we only know about it because they announced that they built it. If it was a computer that designed nuclear weapons (or whatever), we can assume they wouldn't tell anyone about it.
But the music contained in these computer files represents less than 10 percent of the original music on the CDs. In its journey from CD to MP3 player, the music has been compressed by eliminating data that computer analysis deems redundant, squeezed down until it fits through the Internet pipeline.
That's correct it deems the information redundant, but the important thing to keep in mind is that it is correct. While there is some loss of information the mp3 format, it really does mostly eliminate redundant data that can be reconstructed in your mp3 player, aside from that it eliminates sounds your ears literally can't pick up. So I guess the moral is don't play mp3's for your dog.
Landmines are able to kill and maim innocent people years after the conflict they were placed for. Landmines are evil and most of the world wants to get rid of them. The last thing we need is "better" landmines.

I'm aware this isn't Mozilla's fault, but I need version 2 until they have the web developer add-on for version 3.

It's 2%.
Yeah me too.

I bought a version that didn't have the sex scene. Can I collect $5 from the people that made them cut it out?

Clearly the top application of this project is me playing that Tetris game and telling my boss that it's research for my job.
Where are the flying cars? I was promised flying cars!
a Fluff articles with amateurish humor and no content.
b Articles that are spread over multiple pages and primarily feature large pictures.
c And most importantly, articles that give you a pop-up ad on every single page click.

His number is (312) 236-0733. Call him and give him theories. I think everyone should.
Newton's third law is not correct for magnetic force. Momentum is conserved but some of it goes into the fields so rail guns do not recoil.

It would be better that we all died of cancer than ingested something derived from cannabis.

Our laws are not uncommon. "Strange" might have been a better word than "peculiar." Just because many countries do it, doesn't mean it makes sense.
