This article is about allowing Peru to make descisions for its own benieft rather than attack MS. Most leftists are not "bent on tearing down the weathly," but making common sense policies which beneift everyone. I consider myself a Leftist and the issues I consider important are education, socialized health care, and protecting the envoirnment, not destroying Bill Gates (except when he breaks the law).
We do not out and out conquer other contries, but we do control them for our own benefit. For example, we place pressure on countries like Peru to use MS software. We often meddle in the affairs of others. We supply weapons to countries to fight wars for us, we accuse Latin American countries of communism whenever they make descions for their own benefit, and of course we run sweatshops in other countries and again we do not let them legislate work conditions and what have you.
It is not a goal of ours to bring the third world up to our standards. Many of them are improving their economies anyway.
The British Empire couldn't maintain itself after WWII because it was broke. Anyway nothing lasts forever.
We will successfully force MS on Peru and this is benefical to us; but that doesn't make it the right thing to do. We may be doing badly right now but we have it a lot better than them.
If you have an education earning a legitmate living is easier than the life of a criminal. The average drug dealer generally ends up making about minimum wage and has a dangerous line of work to boot. Of course, as Gandi pointed out, contrary to popular belief it is possible to be an honest business man; it is just impossible to amass a large fortune in an honest manner. But shooting people? You might get caught.
You seem to have very strong feelings about slashdot. It is one thing to troll because it is funny but another to troll because you really hate slashdot. You say boycott and go to other sites? Then do it already!! They are not Nazis they simply run a private business in the manner they see fit. Ironically enough, kuro5hin has a policy that they can actually remove posts and slashdot does not.
Is slashdot trying to egg the trolls on? Of course they are!! The trolls are some their most avide readers and posters. They are also very entertaining and get people (like me) to read the comments. I don't like the twice a day rule, but that probably does keep the trolls fresh and more entertaining, rather than redundant.
I am responding to multiple comments. Read http://heather.cs.ucdavis.edu/itaa.html (Thanks kwantus.)
This is not rascism. The point is to hire non-citizens who will work for less. They work for less because they are on H1-B's and will be deported if they are out of work for more than 14 days or so. They are almost hostages
These policies are also very harmful to third world countries because the US sucks their high-tech talent out. This problem exists in other areas. South Africa actually has a big problem with the US taking its nurses. (They have a big AIDS problem.)
At this point the US is importing nurses, teachers, and hi-tech workers and probably others because it does not spend enough on education. H1-B's are a bandage not a cure. The U.S. will be in major trouble if it is not self-sufficent in production of skilled workers.
In summary, this problem and "the global economy" in general is not a problem of one country vs. another; it is a problem of the super-rich vs. everyone else. And guess who's winning!!!!
P.S. Why do I have so much time to write this post? Because I don't have a job!!!!
P.P.S. Iam not a racist. In school, I have made friends with many Indians and other Asians and I wish them the best.
The big change in internet traffic, I would guess, is multimedia. It is probably now dominated by people downloading music and such on fast connections with other applications becoming small time. People may very well viewing twice as much html every 100 days but bandwidth shall from now on be music and movies. It shall soon be mostly just movies. The speed they roll out the DSL lines should have a huge effect.
I don't think there are a million homeless people. Why? Because home is an state of mind. If a person makes a home for themselves on Lower Wacker Drive then they are certainly not homeless. This is just another liberal distortion. Liberals are so condscending that they would probably call all those who chose to make a home on the street homeless. (Yes, I did steal this from George Carlin.)
It would be interesting to see how their brains responded (more than what choices they make). But I guess that's what the researchers were talking about with the CEO's.
I wondered that for a long time. No one would answer me because asking the question makes you look like a troll. Here's the answer from the competitions page. Click Here

Also better is used instead best when two things are compared. But that's the point AC. It is a comment about knowledge being better than intelligence and it contains improper usage. Think about it.
Privacy will die because information wants to be free. However maybe we can spy on the governments and corporations, too. It may very well be that there are no secrets in the future.
I think technology has liberated people throughout history. I believe that this is because the upper class becomes less oppressive as there is more stuff to go around.
In Rome, they had to oppress the slaves because there was a lot of work to do and not always enough food to go around.
Throughout time liberty and equality increased. Unions were probably able to get higher pay in the middle of the 20th century because it was simply the path of least resistance for owners.
Well, I was joking but I can't let that one slide. I hate SUV's and by president you better not be refering to Bush. He and his brother stole the election. Don't think we wanted him. The more people voted for Gore.
They are doing this because TV is dying or at least becoming less profitable. People are spending more time on the internet, playing video games, and renting movies.
Then people use TiVo to block commercials. There are also a lot more channels which divides the revenue up. The total effect is that a commercial is not worth as much on this smaller audience.
So they show more commercials which drive down viewership even more because they have to. Now they will do pop-up adds which will take it further.
I think it is okay for them to show pop-up adds. (I just won't like it.) But it creeps me out when they integrate advertising into the program itself. That's pretty Orwellian. Also this will help bad shows which are conducive to this kind of advertising. (The Other Half, Big Brother.)
What the subject says. I mostly like rock and metal. I presently find new bands by watching a public access show that plays metal videos. Interestingly enough, the host is even bigger and sexier than me.

What are you talking about? You are much more likely to get caught shoplifting the store!!

That doesn't mean they really do pay them the same.

Sorry about replying to a troll, all.

Look at this link. People can want slavery.

The worst part, I think is the retroactive part. Isn't that an ex post facto law?
Well, if internet radio takes off then the RIAA will have to pay them to play their music anyway.
Oops, I left a space in the middle of the link. This is a good story read it.
