A lot of the argument pushed by the censorware folk is that without their product your precious children could trip across EVIL PORNO.

Okay, maybe if they're trawling w4r3z sites they'll be nailed with porno banners, but these are never for anything really extreme (at worst you'll expect to see some light s+m in the samples)

As a DEVOUT porn-monkey, I must inform you (like you don't already know...) that the RILLY GOOD STUFF is a bitch and a half to find. And anyway, generally you won't find it on the web, you'll find it on IRC or (rarely) on USENET. Do these filters even touch IRC?

Why someone who didn't even recognize the name would go into CS is utterly beyond me. It'd be like a second-year math undergrad not knowing who Isaac Freaking Newton was.

If i were a broadcast network. i would want to be pretty sure that the only company making any money off of my $5million prime time drama is me or possibly the people who make it for me. if someone else tapes its and sends it out again, with more ads, even if they don't put the ads in the actualy tv picture, i expect compensation above and beyond what i already got for the orginal ads. Why should i expect it? because I created the content. Period. I own it, i have allowed it to be publicly distributed in a manner that i chose. People can buy descramblers to try to get past any protections i have set up. i don't like that, but air is air and if i'm sending a signal thru that cable that comes into your house then thats my problem. But what you can't do it record MY programming and then send it out in another medium. especialy if you are making money from it. If you are, then you are no better than someone who sells bootleg tapes. That is what iCave is trying to do. Make money from someone else's work.
Something interesting here, you seem to be making the assumption that this sort of economic "competition" is a zero-sum game, where really it may not be. Would you object to "other people making money off of your work" even if in doing so they in no way lowered the amount of money you personally make off of it? What if their making money off of it actually made it so that you made more money yourself?

If the purpose of copyright is to promote the arts, then I see no reason why a copyright holder should be allowed to vindictively deny others the right to use that copyright holder's work to make money, unless in doing so that second party in some way lowered the copyright holder's income. Unfortunately, I doubt this is the way the copyright system in the U.S. is set up right now....

Anyone who thinks Gore is the slightest bit left wing is, ahem, as batshit insane as Al Gore's wife.

Al Gore is, by any sane standard, right wing. So is everyone else running for a nomination from the major two parties. Want proof? Go dig up some of (for example) Richard Nixon's old platforms, then compare them to Gore's or Bradley's. These people are to the right of Nixon of all people, and they have the chutzpah to identify themselves as Democrats?
