I beg to differ. Whilst I agree that there's some shocking solutions out there, I develop applications using the http://mach-ii.com/ framework and it makes for a great development platform; since version 6 (MX) it has supported components that allows for using object oriented development principles.
If one was to use crappy solutions as an argument, how come anyone is still using php, asp, etc? I think ColdFusion has copped it more than any due to its low threshold of entry, but just because one _can_ make a shit solution using a platform doesn't mean the platform is shit.
Have been using ColdFusion for 11 years now and it keeps getting better. It's a great second language to know in addition to.net or Java. Unfortunately & ironically, the low availability of developers pushes the case for enterprises to phase the solutions out, as it is too hard to get people who are good at it - even though it is a perfect fit for a lot of the work.
All such work must be done by licensed data/telco electricians here in Australia. I'm looking at possibly A$300 for the job... (I'd rather spend the money on a new UPS or something.) It's quite annoying; I have friends more than qualified for the job, but their license has expired as they've moved "up" to desk positions. If anything should happen it could be an insurance nightmare so not quite willing to take the risk. Hence, the annoyance with a) builders/designers not putting phone points in the most obvious data rooms, and b) leds bright enough to light a disco. A simple switch to disable all leds would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait till I build my own place... CAT5 everywhere!
Yeah I love my leds but not the one on my router in the bedroom, which I'm forced to have there because the people who built the place didn't put a phone point in the office (2nd bedroom). We're only renting, I can't be effed to pay hundreds to get another point put in.
Gaffa taping the linksys seems to be the solution, but it looks crap.
Ah, thanks.:) Actually checking this out, I see that this is the case but for analogue only i.e. no HDMI - unless you get the Elite version, that is. Seeing as I don't have a games console, though, I will check this update with interest.
This should give you the numbers you want, and AFAIK is compatible with a huge number of cars. I am buying one for my [wife's] Accord Euro Luxury soon.
Just bought a Polo GTR, with a fuel computer. I find it fascinating to see in the close to real time mode that fuel consumption goes down to virtually zero once I'm coasting with foot off the pedal. Once I'm stopped it is listing fuel consumption at something like 1.2 litres per hour. Granted it is still using fuel, but it is a lot less than I thought.
Inner city stop and go traffic is where the hybrids would triumph though. I was going to buy a Civic Hybrid 06-07, but as they've nerfed the Aussie version by removing ESP (VSA in Honda-speak) I decided against it as ESP and side+curtain airbags are critical checkpoints for me.
It has been interesting to watch the trip computer, which automatically initiates a new trip every time you start driving and gives you kays travelled, average speed and trip economy.
I live in Melbourne north west and work in Richmond, VIC AU: Going home from work on the public roads, the Polo's fuel usage is often around 12-14 litres per 100km in the worst bit (I will admit to putting the foot down within the limits, whilst trying to use coasting techniques etc to balance that one out..), then falls dramatically for a 9 litre average by the end of the trip. When using the Citylink highway system on the way to work, fuel usage is a lot less, 7-8 litres per 100km for the entire trip. It is completely bogged down on my way home though, and the $6 fee does not compensate for the small decrease in petrol and having to do the citylink crawl which I absolutely detest.
How about doing a restore practice run whilst at it? Just kidding. Sort of.;)

Very interesting. Is there any reason for printing the ratio as 30:2 as opposed to 15:1 ? Also, for the breath, is that one lung full blown in at highest possible rate? I'm pledging partial ignorance here, but wouldn't mind informing myself a bit better on this issue. Thanks.
I will readily accept that DVD is good enough, indeed, for most SD equipment. For those that have made or are making the investment in HD equipment, however, the proliferation of a HD format is highly relevant. And the numbers of these people are rising; I count myself included with a 50" HD (1366x768 = normal = !"True/Full" ) Panasonic Viera plasma. So in this context, saying that HD DVD is "only" featuring improved image and sound is almost like saying saying that buying a higher powered version of a car is pointless because it "only" features a stronger engine and possibly better suspension setups/brakes. I mean, yes, but doh - that's what we came here for!:)
"But the advantages for HD-DVD over DVD are minimal. For movies, there's only better picture and sound"...
I'm not sure what you're looking for in a movie (YMMV etc), but the above statement really deserves an award for being probably the funniest of all in this thread:)
Seriously, I turn on subtitles sometimes as the muffled audio makes hearing the dialogue hard. Will have to get a new preamp, whenever they're released, but will probably do so when a good one is available for a reasonable price.
(I'm very excited about the WalMart push, it's just what we needed.)
Yep, agree with parent. Right now the only thing preventing me from buying a HDDVD player - and consequently lots of titles; Australian broadband is quite restrictive in terms of bandwidth speed and quotas, so won't bother torrenting these for a while - is the bloody DRM. Also the HDCP requirement is another thing that's holding me back; without, the streams would likely play back quickly enough on my existing equipment, now I have to factor in a crack on top of this as well --- or update my hardware (again).
So if the studios had just done away with all DRM there'd be at least one more paying customer. As long as these awful-beyond-belief "you wouldn't steal a car" ads are NOT mandatory viewing at the beginning of each playback, that is. They couldn't possibly be more counter productive than they were in my case.
What's this bullshit with car maintenance. They tell me I have to spend $250 every 6 months, and I do it, and my car STILL doesn't brake down or have any issues. Bloody rip off.
I beg to differ... Hans Zimmer's fantastic score just rocks and totally carries the movie throughout. I think I'm going to have to dust off my LD and play this one tonight...:)
Executing a Base Delta Zero is the only thing that will really solve the question. It has a side benefit of also addressing the current issue of global warming.
