  1. Japan...you should see Singapore.... on Cell Phones Changing Social Group Communication · · Score: 1

I was just in Singapore and Japan. As a whole, people in Singapore use their cell phones much much more. In Singapore they are used as a tool for work and for normal uses. Answering a phone in a meeting is not taboo, I found it annoying, but it is accepeted there. Also many of these people use the text messaging (SMS) to recieve news updates, request songs on the radio, to send jokes, and to buy soda from vending machines.

As for wanting to not be contacted, two easy solutions, shut off the phone or don't get one and continue to live in your cave attached to your computer and be available via some messenger service and email. Cell phones here are easy to get by without. However, can you live without your computer?

The ATT site does not have this tiered pricing listed. It also says that I cannot get any broadband service at my address. Kind of funny when when I already have ATT cable modem running there. I think it is priced priced good but they cannot guarantee that performance with the nodes overloaded as they are, hell I get about 900kbps not the 1.5Mbps I should be getting. If they added more nodes and decreasedthe numbers on them, it would be worth it. As it is, they can't even keep my connection up all the time. I constantly get 3 to 5 minute hiccups between 9 - 10pm everynight. Oh well, they wont get my money for now.

It really pissed of one of the baby bells, since they would be using the lines that baby bell installed. I believe that the baby bell tried to sue and lost since they have to share the lines according to the FCC rules. Anyway, if you are to worried about leeching neighbors, get a satilite connection. While not as fast as DSL or cable connections, it still beats the hell out of dial up. -Out the PC, over the LAN, through the server, down the T1, nothing but 'net-
