  1. Re:Except they do on Zuckerberg: Facebook Doesn't Use Your Mic For Ad Targeting (engadget.com) · · Score: 1

There is no way Facebook listens users. There are hundreds or thousands security researchers and hackers constantly monitoring what the app does and no one has found any evidence. It would be a PR disaster for Facebook to get caught on listening users, so they can't risk it. And they don't need to, they get all the information they need from our clicks and likes.

  3. It's not dead, it's functioning as it should be on Open Source Killing Commercial Developer Tools · · Score: 1
From the article "The tools market is dead. Open source killed it. The only commercial development tools that can survive today are the ones that leapfrog open source tools. [..] UNA Personal Edition was not going to persuade Java developers to stop using Eclipse or Idea, .NET developers to stop using Visual Studio, Ruby developers to stop using TextMate, or die-hard Emacs and Vi developers from using those respective editors. Why? Because stripped of its collaborative features, what remains is an incremental improvement on the status quo. Incremental improvements that cost money don't fare well against free tools."

So, if they can't sell a product which isn't better than freely available alternatives, that means the tools market is dead? They just produced an editor which doesn't have enough distinguishing features to be marketable and complain the market being dead? To me that sounds like the market is live and functioning as it should be.

For starters, Windows doesn't include any programming languages or compilers, so already most people with computers out there are restricted to just using applications.
Yes it does. Create a textfile, enter line

    MsgBox "Hello World!"

Save the file and rename it to Hello.vbs

Now doubleclick on the file and see yourself that a programming language is included in Windows.

If you are not interested in Apple Computer, perhaps you should try searching for "apples" which returns "Apples & More: Learn all about apples, growing and using them, and where to pick your own apples" as the first hit.

Btw, among the 25 first pages returned by Lycos for "apple" 15th was Fiona Apple page, all other were somehow related to Apple Computer.

So, seems like there are "holes" in other search engines too, if you use poorly selected search terms.

Still the Mandrake hardware support isn't complete enough... I just installed a couple of weeks ago win 98 and Mandrake 8.2 to a computer with SiS 730S chipset. Installing Windows and a couple of applications required about a dozen reboots, Mandrake rebooted only once and was really nice and simple.

But nicer installation doesn't quite make up the fact that I still have no audio in Linux and that my USB ISDN-modem isn't working. Mandrake seems to recognise both just fine, they just aren't working...
