I have a Treo. It is awesome. I have an SSH client, an IMAP client, a web browser and it plays all those stupid popcap games. It doesn't play MP3s, but I think the sony Clie version does. I'm extremely happy with it. I need nothing else.
I have these running in many offices. Some of the cool firewall systems I've set up using LEAF:
LEAF/VLAN gateway: Configured an 802.11q VLAN gateway for 24 independent offices. Independent NAT routing via shorewall. $500 Intel 410 switch, $100 in hardware for leaf box.
LEAF/IPSEC: Multiple offices connected via VPN for file sharing, internal web hosting, DNS, etc.
LEAF/FIREWALL: Just my standard single office firewall. Easy to configure, cheap, all config is on CD, leaves me massive upgrade options without having to buy 'add-ons' garbage like sonicwall offers.
In light of this article here's a script I use for my backups. It copies and compresses each file to a separate volume (in this case/storage). I have a samba share pointing to/storage that the users have read-only access to. They can restore at their leisure using winzip to decompress the files. I was looking for something like this for so long that I thought it only fair to share:
please be gentle with my server
Exactly what I do. But you can't use a PO box. You have to use a PMB (private mail box) like you can get at "The UPS Store" or any other commercial mailing store with boxes for rent. You can then specify your address like
111 Main st. #123
instead of indicating that it's a box.
Dependability!? Microsoft? I wonder what they mean by "unique"? Unique as in a one legged dog, pathetic and prone to crashing.
I say this as someone who has to manage win2k servers every day. It's always a breath of fresh air every time I see '[root@mail root]#'. Ahhhh.,
This came up in a conversation with some friends of mine. I read over the comcast TOS and couldn't find anything stating it was illegal to use a firewall/router. In fact, there was language in the TOS that suggested all users employ a firewall device or software for their protection.
I was poking around at their site since it's not open yet and saw they're using something called CommuniGate Pro for smtp. Anyone ever used it and can maybe compare it to Courier-MTA or QMail?
I use a midiman DMAN 2044. It only works in Win98, but it's awesome. It has 4 in / 4 out 1/4inch jacks. I use CoolEdit Pro from Syntrillium software for multitrack recording and editing. Everyone I know in a band smacks their head after paying thousands of dollars to rent fancy studios when they see this cheapo setup.
I was shedding tears until I found I could buy every episode on VCD on ebay. VCR quality, but damn... when you need a UCB fix!

The finally do something inovative and it's full of sh*t. No, really...

We did this for a while until the constant moving of the cheap IDE drives damaged the heads. Wasn't worth it.
Maybe it's hardly worth mentioning.

The best Sysadmin boot disk IMO is Toms RTBT. I use the enchilada cdrom iso myself. Very tight and no compatibility problems ever.

My wife thought it was a real person. Go figure.
