Good luck. User resistance can be extremely strong among the rank and file business types. They can send their 50 meg ppt file via e-mail via a simple drag and drop and hit send. To use DCC or FTP they would have to do some horribly complicated and black magic like operation such as connecting to the destination address. It would just be too baffling. Educate the the crap out of your users, 90% will go back to what they knew how to do before you tried the training.

If you understood the announcement of the FISA court you would understand this has everything to do with YRO. I imagne it wouldn't be a big step to go from phone tapping to packet sniffing, and the DOJ could say you are a suspected terrorist, monitor you, then send your name, address, phone number, penis size, whatever, to the FBI for criminal charges (got any MP3's to a CD you dont own, legally thats felony copyright infringement) with not warrant. Get it now? People should be EXTREMLY pissed off about this.

  11. Substutution homework. on Distance Education - Pros and Cons? · · Score: 1

The biggest problem I have had with the online classes is, they aren't classes. I have taken a few 'net only classes at my brick and mortar university (VCU). The biggest troube is the class isnt tought like a class. You read alittle bit and then a large amount of homework is given. The professors all used assignments to attemt to take up the slack of no human interaction. In a normal class I would spend about 1 hour studying and about 2 hours (+-) doing assignments. For my online classes I would spend about 4 hours (keep in mind there is no class time so reguard that as 3 class and 1 studying)studying, and usually 5-7 hours on assignments. Several times I had 11-13 hours of assignments to do for one class. The way a professors expect insane repitition of similar execises to make up for not being really tought anything just left a very bad taste in my mouth. Hope your experience goes better.

It is sad that most people do not care in the slightest about weather or not they can pick the hardware in their computers. Most people consider their big white box to be an appliance akin to the toaster. Imagine GM trying to make cars which would not allow you to look under the hood or do your own work. People would go berserk. Rather than trying to get large corps. to go open standards it may be eiser to educate John Q as to why Gov't regulation of his PC and what and where and when he can look at copyrighted material is a Bad Thing(TM).
