what if xxx CEO states "we're currently contemplating upgrading our computer infrastructure. We are running some studies and are contemplating thee benifits of Linux as a possible replacement for windows."
this isn't a very good strategy at all on MS's part. Have a standard competiive price. If they see the competition is lower priced, price there or close. All this does is encourage CEO's to "think" they want Lindows, and then get steeply discounted MS products.
seems quite farmilear and goes with the recent microsoft strategy.."the first hit is free". For eviidence look at what they're trying to do with education boards and governments. They offer 'plans' in whcih they'll offer thousands of dollars of office. but guess what? you need to buy windows. If they can get xbox into the hands of people, they know gamems will have to be baught. I mean how many people just buy the system and sit there?
If it's on compueer theres this big issue about it. For example there was this kid in my area. He hacked in and ttole an exam. He was expelled and haad criminal acttion brought againnst him. on the other hand if someone simply stole an eexam off a teacher desk or something, suspended, or maybe fail tthe course. There's this big paranoya when it comes to computers. It's like the same thing done on a somputer is much worse when done normally. Would i buy the gamme, no. But when they're already selling R-rated movies, is this this far off?
From briefly reading the article, it could definately work. It would be great if you could have P2P kinda with usb. For example with my TI-83+ grraphingn calc, i ca connectt to another one and transfer programs, games and the sort. Another great example of ttis sorrt of thing is the GameBoy. For years a linkn cable has existed and it's done amazingly well. But the major obstacle in both of this is support. There would need to be some sort of common protocol which would make it easy to connect one device to another. with multimple protocols, the whole thing would simply be a mess. The idea itself is awesome. I would love for it to be implemented.
The poster seems to be fogetting that meta tags have aa greater span of use than simply for search engines. For example refreshes and redirects. Also, theres nohing wrong with using them. As a developer, i normally add them in my sites. My reasoning is that since it can only help and make ure listting more specific, why not?
seems as though all this is for show and tell sake. 'dude, i got a 128 meg card!' seriously whats the point of going top end right now? My desktop's 32meg ddr worrk fine. i can play pretty mmuch all the new games. For the average gamer 64 wil probably be great for quiite a while. When the need arises for 128 or higher, then it should be bought, not now when there is such a premium on such technology. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
a Slashdot Inside sticker. ;)
