Man you said it. Our government seems to be doing a damn good job at implementing all the anti-privacy technology it can. It does indeed seem to be turning into a doubleplus good situation for our "leaders".
What advertising are you talking about? And for that matter, what fee? I have several gmail accounts, all free, and none contain a lick of advertising!
As far as google disappearing in a puff of smoke and everyone forgetting about them.. Well google earth is pretty cool! Not to mention Google Video, Google Maps, Google Answers, Google Sets, Google SMS, and for some reason all free, and it actually works! What a world.
This whole deal strikes me as remarkably similar to the idea Randy and the guys at Epiphyte had in one of the best books EVER, The Cryptonomicon. What's next? Will they start a vault? And where's the hidden gold!?
So for the sake of arguement, because "today's geeks" want both form and functionality, they're not up to par with the "geeks" of yesteryear? My friend you have some identity problems.
Well I dont know how much United airlines is going for these days, but I'm sure you could pick up a few airlines cheap these days, what with their business way down, and we all know airflight will be popular again before too long.

Yesterday I found out my boss is a devout 7-day creationist. I myself am an athiest, but I did not admit this to her for fear of my job:P Anyway we entered a heated discussion about the origins of the universe, and frankly I provided more evidence through the big bang theory and our information about human vs. ape genetics that she simply back into the "faith" arguement. This article will give me the fodder I need to lay her flat on her ass the next time discussion of such things comes up. Thanks slashdot!
Folks, you should have learned your lesson from the American civil rights struggle. All it takes is one person who refuses to accept an ideal forced upon them by the government to incite a whole country! This may or may not be it, but here here to an ISP with BALLS!! An ISP we can ALL be proud of!
