Although the first movie was enjoyable, why do they always make movies based on books we've all already read? When I go to see it I already know what's going to happen at the end. No suspense. I heard they were going to make a movie about "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. We've all read the book already...it was required reading to get in the chess club in high school.

  13. Re:But you forgot about Blizzard! on Improv Animation as an Art Form? · · Score: 1

A lot of CG movies now look pretty much like cartoons -- Spider Man and Final Fantasy. Good movies, but not realistic. Think of the rubber costumed aliens in Independence Day. They looked far more real than any alien in Star Wars. And someone said all the aliens on Star Trek are slightly modified humans. Thats true, because all Star Trek episodes go through one guy, Rick Berman. Hence each episode's villians seem the same. Other movies out there, Aliens 2, Predator 1 and 2, have costumed actors that are actually pretty scary. CG only looks real if used for backgrounds.

  14. Is this the right way to go? on Improv Animation as an Art Form? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'm wondering what the final result will look like. I've always felt that actors, even if clad in rubber suits like in Predator, look far better and more realistic than CG graphics. I also feel that CG should just be for the background, or other special effects, never for characters. It's hard for me to 'suspend my disbelief' when I'm watching a scary movie and a computer generated villain walks on the screen.

That is an interesting point, but...Two parents do not create anything. Here's why. The human body is actually very simple. It is a basic organism, with very few mysteries remaining, outside the brain. The reproductive cells, however, are a different matter. They are a high level, very complex set of systems that scientists cannot duplicate. As a matter of fact, it looks like the human body is nothing more than a vehicle to carry around our reproductive cells so that they can re-create themselves. Only the universe can create life, so far at least.

In reality, Data is just a machine. Yet he is considered to be on the same level as a human, and afforded the same rights as we are. This lowers humanity to the level of the machines we create. When machines are on an equal footing with the rest of us, you can bet that your rights will be quite limited.

  22. This great Telescope on Hubble's Infrared Camera Repaired · · Score: 1

I have always favoured an unmanned telescope over the more expensive, manned projects. In terms of manufacturing, manned space projects always post a loss, financially. And any tech derived from them could have more easily been designed from the start in Earth-bound research laboratories. The best hope that the Hubble gives us is that if there is life out there, it is most likely to be found at the galactic center, amidst the high concentration of stars. Only a powerfull orbital scope will ever detect any extra-solar civilizations. That's where all the funding should go.
