That's the happy memory of the BBS era. Playing TW2002 with people, and kicking their asses in the 416. That game was great, hours of enjoyment, and the strategies applied both to game play, knowing when the system rolled over, and when your opponents played (and henced busying the line). Yes I was a geek back then, but boy was it a fun distraction..
It was an interesting time and the first board I connected to was Eternity III found from the C64 for advertisings... My C64... It had some fun games.
Those were the years when there actually was a community... Since good boards took effort to connect to.
RIAA/MPAA should look to China as a role model of the American teenager if they keep pissing the "consumer" (I'm not a teen but I'm mad as hell) off.
Up here in Canada, we have succeeded in a 15% decrease in music... Congradulations my fellow Canadians... Are CDs are 50% cheaper and we still pirate more...
Per capita, more broadband, at a cheaper price, but it appears that when Canadians say boycott, more of us carry it out!
What does Anna Nicole and Ossama have in common? Majority of Americans want them DEAD!!!
What are the differences? One's fat, one's skinny, one will eat anything, one had sex with a camel... but both got lucky at the expense of all Americans and now must DIE!!!
For many other reasons than lack of sleep. Lack of sunshine, asshole of a boss, no hot chicks in the office, slashdot blocked, no more Howard Stern...
Sleep can be a factor, but its loosing the comfort zone, or a major change around you that is most distruptive.
Every office needs one nice piece of eye candy... It makes the day go by so much better. Its like in lectures... If the prof sucks... Just stare at the hot chick...
PS: If my gf is reading this.. I'm pissed... She better not become a geek...
Maybe what they really are saying is that they want less media repeating the same damn thing EVERY 15 MINUTES, with TRAFFIC AND WEATHER on the 10s... and SPORTS every 15.
We already of restrictions to freedom of expression, I can't go calling black people N%%%%%rs (at least in Canada) without potentially getting fined for it, or charged with a verbal hate crime.
Anarchy is unrestricted freedom. I believe in small government, with my house as my castle. But I don't want my crazy neighbour to have unrestricted freedom!
The spying on religous groups... Though Muslims tend to have the focus right now, what's to say another group isn't going to get lined up next.
Separation of Church and State should work both ways... If God (Church) has to be removed from State... then State should stay out of Church.
But as a US History major, I have come to see and understand, the American population goes through transitions, rights are given, when abused, they are taken away, then they are returned. Why? Because a democracy is made up of people, and when there is a real threat, some freedoms need to be restrained slightly.
Look at the American Japanese, then the Communist witch hunt, the ridicule of the Christian right, and now the Muslim extremists. Groups are targeted, but eventually things balance out.. And they tend to balance out ONCE THE THREAT IS GONE!
I believe in RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES! You shouldn't have one without the other... But that's just me... If you hippies want to protest, I've got some pepper spray and water cannons for you!
This is but one of hopefully many penalties Microsoft will have to endure. Who knows, it might even lead to a more secure IE.
A company that is successful can be a monopoly, but their behavior has to be that of a naturing mother letting the children play inside the house, and even at times helping the children.
Instead MS has proven themselves to be a dictator, with a "my way or the highway" attitude. Their abuses are why they should now be punished...
Shit, I was saying this back in 97 before the shit really started to fly. You could see it then, but now you can really see it.
And though SUN as also been a real big dick, they haven't been as bad (yet), so I'll side with them... But in coming years, I'll probably be against them too. Corporations seem to have such short memories of when they were the underdog..
Do unto others as you would like done to you! Practice that in business, and we'd all be a little better off!
This was the same government that thought it would be a good idea for the CRTC to regulate all Canadian websites, enforcing "Canadian" content and to be bi-lingual.
Now our lame duck PM / Dictator thinks that data retention is a good thing? When will Canadians wake up and realize that this PM needs to go now... To retire, before he truly becomes cynial.
In related news... SlashDot.org will be depreciated in favor of Slashdot.COM to further re-enforce the idea that this site will actually generate revenue.
If anything that is a good thing. I personally don't know PERL, choosing at the time to pursue ASP and Visual Basic (though now I code 90% in Delphi).
One of the things I don't like is having to lay down lots of code to do something so simple as screen output. Over the last year or so I have been rewriting my company's primary application, increasing the inheritance and modular coding with the purpose of future programmers only needing to scratch the surface rather then go to the base code.
Giving managers a fuzzy feeling? Give them a stuff toy, you can code shit both in PERL and JAVA and about any other language that can leave one open to exploit. The more concepts a programmer must understand and use (for basic tasks), the more likely they are to mess up.
Coding and security come both by approach and experience. The langauge is irrelevant and the certificate is to... Otherwise MSCE would really mean something.
Or kids choirs!
Of course, if you ahve Curious George stuff, the monkey might also be in a little trouble.

Its called a Vagina!
The woman already controls any space she occupies!
Figures... They block open-source but not warez!

Watch out... The Northern Europeans will come and kick your puny 2 armies / turn continent... North Africa is no problem..
Maybe not... But cost savings is the first way to rebuilding a country's economy...
I wonder if the demands on the OS community become more, will it be able to scale?

Wrong equation...
Monopoly=Limitations...

With an infinite amount of time... Evolution is possible...
and that's BULLSHIT! Hence so is MACRO evolution!!!
SOFTWARE... SOFTWARE... Its to protect software dumbass!
Thank-you...
And your point is?
BULLSHIT
You have a recourse against the government, as the courts have shown, there is little recourse against MS.
You can at least understand what the Emperor said...
With Cretien, good luck!
NAPMFQ!
1) What does having sex in a canoe and drinking American beer have in common?
They are both fucking close to water
2) How do you describe Canadian history in one sentence?
We spent 200 years chasing beavers and tail!
NAPMFQ
Americans.. Please don't immitate us... This is what it should have said...
Canadian police agent: Sir, I found something very disturbing in this person's web history!
Canadian detective: Alright let me see it...
Canadian police agent: One second eh, here it is...
Canadian detective: My god what is that! eh is that man tearing open his own a.....
Canadian police agent: eh he followed this link from a site known as Slashdot.org sir!

Then and only then will the Democrates get back in power...
