And thank you for playing, would you like to back that up with federal code perhaps? Especially since federal law doesnt apply to driver's licenses because they are issued by the individual states. nice try though.
A little background: I work with a security and investigations firm and also work as a medical applications developer. This means i see both sides of the privacy issue. On the security and investigations side I routinely find out more information than you ever though was possible in your worst nightmares about people and their relationships. On the medical side I try to make it as difficult as possible (short of destroying the data) for non-authorized people to access information.
There is a large amount of data that is part of the public record that anyone can access and it is perfectly legal for them to do so.
Where you were born
Criminal record
Drivers license info
SSN#
Address
Tax Records etc.
I often wonder if people know how much of this information is available. I am not sure what the Justices were thinking as I have not read the case opinions at this point, but teh stalker could have just as easily gone to the public library and courthouse and found out teh same information. I personally would love to be able to have more anonimity. I dont think that the Govt. or anyone else should know where and when I travel, what websites I go to, what my email says or who I live with. But the sad fact is that America has historically been willing to give up these "rights" and "privacies" for temporary security. and this I think may be part of the result.
I talked to one of the reps on the phone, oh say an hour and a half ago. He claims that the write failure is 1 million writes per sector. They have never deployed anyting larger than a TB so needless to say they were excited to hear from me.. ( see the lower post about my specific application)
Rather than take the time to put a bunch of info out here i will just point you to the XRaid page
There is a reason there are 5000 databases:). Remember in the medical field the priority is record keeping, record keeping and record keeping especially with HIPPA.
Processing power isnt an issue the 22 servers planned are way more than enough to handle anything we want to throw at them from this application. and if it isnt the system is completely scalable.
Sorry, I can't go into specifics for confidentiality reasons.
I appreciate your feedsback so let me respond with the following:
1. Medical application thus with 5000 individual databases that need redundandcy.. well cant happen in the manner you are suggesting
2. Unfortunately because of Hippa we are limited in a number of ways. However its teh issue of trackinghe movements of 5000 users constantly through the system with Database writes that causes the bigger issue.. who looked at what for how long and whos record and what did they do to it. - every record looked at has to have this information logged.. thank you washington.
3. Sorry sir, as a 20 year network guy with in excess of 70 industry certs in M$, Apple and Unix systems I am sticking with Apple in this. Besides you should know better than to try and change a macHeads mind on systems.. shame on you.:)
4. Who is dreaming. quite honestly this is not that big a project. We are at final beta stage now as it is. Moores law really doesnt apply as it is data storage that is the issue not processing power. As it stands the model involves 4 clusters of machines as it is.
fianally as you guessed it is MBs-1 not MBs-L so yes I could also write it MB/s or even MB but as i prefer standard scientific notation I shall remain with MBs-1:)
I know in the application I am currently developing these would be of a signifigant help. Right now I am looking at sustained wriiting in the order of 14MBs-1 then another 20MBs-1 in reads. As this is a medical application and every transaction has to be recorded potentially forever ( or 120 years whichever comes first:) ) ( also means we cant use ram to cache the database) One issue wil be total cost though. Currently we estimate the need for 4 clusters of drives.
1 X 42TB cluster and
3 X 28TB clusters.
At $1 per MB those are some signifigant numbers. 126 million dollars in arrays. vs something like an X Raid at $6038 TB-1 or a total of 761 thousand. There is a cost factor difference of 165.
I just took a look at the two previous years trips and photos. The overall journalling reads very much like student work ( as opposed to more academic work) and thus is a fun read even for non academians and egyptology lovers.
Well the private investigation company I work with does, though they dont realize it. for one thing it has halved my support calls so i can spend more time acting like Q.
On a side note did anybody else notice this at the bottom of the article
Still, a loss of trademark would open the door to an uppity PC maker or AOL that wanted to use the Windows name. Imagine "H-P Windows," " I.B.M. Windows," "Dell Windows" or "AOL Windows." Most likely, Mr. Robertson speculated, a big-brand alternative would be based on Linux, like Lindows.com. "It's not out of the realm of possibility at all," he said.
The idea of an AOL windows is either terrifying or hillareous. A product that you have to dial up to register but the line is always busy.. and other such items come to mind.
As a former IT Director I am somewhat familiar with federal labor laws. It all depends on your salary range here is an exerpt from a labor site online:
" The federal salary level for professional employees remains at $170 per week, exclusive of board, lodging or other facilities; and the short test for professionals also uses a salary of just $250 per week. Computer professionals are treated somewhat differently, however. In 1990 the U.S. Congress passed legislation specifically to address the computer field. The exemption is applied only to "highly-skilled employees who have achieved a level of proficiency in the theoretical and practical application of a body of highly-specialized knowledge in computer systems analysis, programming, and software engineering." These computer professionals must receive a salary of at least $1,105 per week, which breaks down to an hourly wage of $27.35 for a 40-hour workweek; and is an annual salary of $57,460 - a far higher salary than most bona fide exempt EAPemployees receive in the human services field."
no my assumption as you put it is that the "embryo" is a human life. which is not an assumption at all but an act of logical reasoning. it is a matter of personal rights, had i been attempting to inflame, be a troll or something else i would have said things like "right to life" murder, abortion ect. I did not use any thing of this nature. My statement that an embryo is human life is reasonable and stems from teh notion that I am alive now and was alive 1 second ago and so on ad infinitum until the statement is no longer true. at the second it is no longer true did i not exist or was i not alive. if i was not alive tehn someting amazing hapened.. life from nothing, if i did not exist then something must have triggered teh existance.. in the is particular case it was a sperm cell fusing with an egg cell.
"politically icky embryo route"
- why dont you say the truth.. the ending of one human life for the possibilty to help another
- no this is not a troll
As others have stated HGH is used to regulate growth during childhood and adolescence and is produced throughout the rest of your life (diminishing with age). Like most horomones, if you have a deficiency then you should be treated, on the other hand in excess it will cause acromegaly (Giantism) as seen in such people as Andre Rene Rousimoff (Andre the Giant), Hatton, Rondo (the Creeper) Deeter Deerkin (My cousin Richard), Richard Kiel(Jaws from James Bond), DickSutherland
Also by adding a growth factor into your sustem it can trigger the growth of internal organs ( leading to an enlarged heart, or similar situations) and teh growth of tissues you simply don't want to grow - otherwise benign tumors and such
I suppose the point is as with any horomone moderation is best... with moderation being what your body already produces on its own...
As am I and let me say that i have found the oppisite. Routinely i get the message "unable to place call".. In fact looking at my logs I get it about 4 times a day and place about 20 calls a day from my wireless phone here in the dallas area, so that is about a 17% failure rate for me.
I have been working on a medical application using OSX, PHP, Apache, Mysql. What does this have to do with Cold Fusion? well the application was written originally in cold fusion. What I have found is that CF is great for rapid application development and proof of concept however is it not a deployment solution. If you are with a microsoft partner as you claim.. stay with their products... otherwise all the people saying open source are correct. Also one should think twice about asking about MS products here it is essentially the same as asking people to flame you.
I am writing this while on hold with I was answered politely but the receptionist who politely put me on hold for the person who could answer the question of why i needed Internet Explorer to email Ms Tubbs-Jones. Ms Sheila Harvey answered and then asked for my personal information and they "appreciated me bringing this to their attention" They are going to look into this and call me back I will post the results of this call as soon as they call me back as a reply to this message. It was suggested I fax them or send them postal mail... where i pointed this out on teh page... "**NOTICE: Due to recent anthrax cases, mail delivery to the Washington office has stopped indefinitely. Please utilize e-mail, fax, and phone when possible to ensure timely receipt and response."
Interestingly ( or not so much so) her page was created by frontpage 5 and the charset is of course windows-1252. There is no doctype or anything else to make this page apply to any normal standard. - more when i get called back.
Feds won't do it. I agree with you they should , but they wont. BTW this is why we have the first ammendment. Remember sedition is only illegal if you don't succeed.
seriously though I really don't think it is possible. Though to start with you would need: 1) A large air conditioner 2) Several filters of variing ratings (start with normal airconditioner filters then move to heppa filters then ionization filters and liquid filters 3) A way of sealing the room completely maybe like the thermal sprays they put on buildings (it is air tight and non brathable IIRC) 4) a decent multistage airlock 5) Appropriate dress
Seriously the trick to a clean rom is all in keeping things out. so a good start is to us ethe previously filtered air to create an over pressure area inside teh clean room. This if there are any leaks they would be to the outside not the inside. Good luck
How hard would it be to write one? Depending on the size PHP and mySQL would work fine. Or how about looking on Sourceforge and doing a search for "Asset" This turned up a number of mature projects that do what you seem to need.
From the site: "iMoD elements are minuscule, typically 25-60 microns on a side (400-1,000 dots per inch). Therefore, many iMoD elements are ganged and driven together as a pixel, or sub-pixel in a color display. "
So intensity is a function of the ratio of active vs total elements per pixel
Every fire wire device can act as its own host, so it is entirely dependent on the drivers of the computers you are connecting. According to the spec you can do this just like you can network two computers together with firewire.

It is geared twords consumer releases. I also would like to see more articles like this with an eye on the server release of OS X.

And according to the original question teh second machine is there for redundancy. so it should never use the drive if the first is functional.

Firewire is both inexpesnive and reliable.
