Why? The article doesn't explain WHY it would be good for IBM and Sun to switch their licenses. To me, it seems like Fink is just trying to garner some positive attention to HP, which has been looked upon negatively for some time in the technical community.
On another note, did anyone else find it ironic that he is trying to push the ideals of software freedom of creativty and expression...by locking everyone under the same license?
Are you the same type of person who complains about PIN Number and ATM Machine? Who cares?
Things like that help give context to a person who otherwise doesn't know. Saying "Happy SAD" to a person doesn't really provide any meaningful information about whats going on. "Happy SAD Day" at least lets the person know that its some sort of holiday. It also forms a complete sentence:)
No you won't. You and others have spent (wasted) what is probably an extraordinary amount of time in the game already. Why give up after losing just a week or so of changes? You'll accept it, keep playing and maybe grouse about it on Slashdot or a message board somewhere.
Congratulations on a wonderful example of 8th sign that you're an idiot on Slashdot. This is nothing more than a personal anecdote with no backup material or references. Could you post the email they sent? Provide more details about what happened?
Those checks have to be mailed or deposited somewhere right? Wouldn't it be fairly easy to catch these people "red handed" picking up their checks or depositing the checks in their account? What about withdrawing it? It all leaves a trace..
I don't mind be advertised to. People have to make their money somehow, and if I want to get content for free, the publisher should be able to show me advertisements in order to make money for his/her content.
This advertising space is limited to the page I am viewing. I consider it unacceptable to:
- Show popups.
- Show popunders.
- Spam me.
- Install spyware / adware.
Basically if you advertise in any way that is not confined to the page/window I am viewing, all bets are off when it comes to blocking your advertisements.
OK, the headline says they cut support but the summary says they are still offering support, just not the product. For that matter, do they have a UNIX/Linux version of ANY of their products, OSX aside?
Now I can see round the clock coverage of the latest missing girl / boy and who won the latest Fox reality TV show. Seriously, how come they don't report NEWS anymore? All their front page head lines are just BS.
Fedex just earned itself a lifetime of wrath (probably no lost business though) from Slashdotters by invoking the four-letter word.
The four letter word aside, is he legally allowed to use their logo in that manner?

Are the artists that are doing this in violation of their contract with Sony?
Relax, see here and here. Now take a deep breath

Wish everyone a Happy SAD day. Watch the confusion spread across their faces..
Do you always post the same comment on Slashdot and Fark ?
Fear Uncertainty and Doubt
Go back under your bridge
Maybe if everyone didn't chuck their computer everytime it got spyware on it, the demand wouldn't be so high!

And for those of us who don't read the article and don't know what Harmony is:
Harmony is the Apache Foundations project to create an open source edition of Java SE (Standard Edition).
Well since we're talking about stupid lists, I feel compelled to share my list of Signs you're an idiot on Slashdot.

Anyone have any samples of the images it creates?
I'd rather keep it on my toenails, they (seem to) grow slower and thus, I don't clip them as often.

"Finally catching up with Apple" is a sentence fragment. Please consider revising.
Judging by the photo in that article, I'd say it worked real well. Yup, no after effects at all...

We can rebuild him!

Out of beta? Hahahaha. Google has completely crushed the meaning of the word 'beta'.
