Apple Computer, even with its tiny marketshare, makes as much money in a year as Microsoft does in one quarter, $11 Billion.

I'm not sure google can compete with MS in a direct fashion yet and succeed, however they will be an interesting company to watch over the next few years. If Apple can compete in a niche market and only be four times smaller (by revenue) that Microsoft, google could quite possibly to very well.

  9. The Difference Between Journalism and Not on Is Blogging Journalism? · · Score: 1
There is a very simple way to determine who gets "Journalist" status (as in professional). Anyone can be a journalist by reporting whatever story they want. This is a good thing. However, it does not make you a professional journalist.

For a blog to be considered as an entity like the NY Times, a good indicator of how worthy they might be would be to see if blogs had a press pass to certain events. If they don't, they're not professional journalists, and they get no protection. If a blogger CAN get a press pass to some event, then chances are pretty good that they have the professional standing to avoid messes like these.

Also, legitimate journalistic entities tend to have some kind of oversight to see that a story is reported correctly.

A final note: your vaildity as a journalist depends on how much other entities respect you as a journalist. (Read: Journalist status is relative to your credibility with existing journalists)

As a part of EECpE at Iowa State University, I know how valuable team and communication skills are to making a successful project. I 100% agree with the parent post, because there are so many different ways to design hardware and software. Just for the record, in an earlier post I ruffled someone's pantaloons by saying CMOS processors are limited to about 25 Mhz. TTL/CMOS goes up to about 125 Mhz, and ECL (Emitter Coupled Logic) comes from the TTL family. The theory behind it is that when a transistor is in partial saturation, it can get a logic HIGH (1) or LOW (0) switched faster than going through an entire cycle of "on's and off's."

This is the same technology IBM uses to design their processors, and it's kind of like walking a tight rope between signals. I would be interested to see some of the IBM fabrication techniques for this unique method of high-preformance computing.

On a good LAN environment, the administrator has disabled access to install any software, including a flash plug-in.
