    Oddly enough, I tend to find that talented sysadmins make the best programmers. They tend to be much less likely to fuck everything up.

    But linux runs on more hardware than OS X or windows. And it runs faster than both.

    Maybe it has more to do with the skill of the developers than anything else.

    IcedTea only had to implement the 4% of Java that wasn't GPLed.

    Although 4% doesn't sound like much, it's actually just short of 8 billion lines. It sounds unbelievable that they could accomplish that so quickly, but Java's strength is in making it easy to write large amounts of code.

    Seriously, lying is one of the best ways to teach skepticism. Tell absurdly stupid lies about wholly unimportant things. Tell lies that contradict eachother. Tell lies that contradict well known historical events. Realizing how stupid your lies are will make every other stupid lie (ghosts, ufos, jesus) more obvious.

    I don't know. What's the difference between a universe full of other races that we've never heard from and a universe inhabited solely by us.

    I'm a fan of Carl Sagan, but I do find it kind of amusing that he would easily reject one idea that there is no evidence for (God), but so willingly embrace another idea for which there is no evidence (intelligent extraterrestrial life).

    My point is that a guilty verdict should be beyond a reasonable doubt. The fact that the DA would try to bargain with him for a lesser sentence suggests that there is a reasonable doubt.

    The article basically says that Hans needs to reveal the location of the body if he wants a reduced sentence.

    Yes, clearly it is Reiser's responsibility to provide evidence that he did not commit first degree murder.

    I guess this marks the end of ReiserFS. I'm sure no one in the Linux community wants to be associated to that piece of work.

    Honestly, I don't see how this invalidates his work. Surely the code didn't drive him to commit murder.

    Disclaimer: I use ext3, but I'm sure reiserfs has some merits.

    You've just summed up most Gartner reports. =)
    Not everything they say is completely obvious. Remember when they told people to delay linux deployments until the SCO case was settled. Of course, that turned out to be terrible advice, but it was non-obvious.

    Though it's possible, how many other things in the universe are naturally doughnut shaped?
    Perhaps the universe is naturally round and mostly flat (like a disk), but has a gigantic black hole in the middle. That would result in a donut shape.
