That's what I was thinking too....Comcast and AT&T (the new one) tie for the honor of being the lowest life-form IMO.
So what I wanna know is, who told Comcast that this was possible and how to do it? They're certainly too dumb to have figured it out on their own.
As a long-time Silly-valley resident, I've seen this phenomenon before. Senior management actually get bonuses directly proportional to the amount "saved" by downsizing.
Right now, looking at the traffic patterns around here, we see a total drop in traffic on the roads, but an increase in both high-end managermobiles and in bluecollarmobiles (cheap SUVs).
It's not a good time to live here, unless you happen to be in the pointy end of the pyramid.
Jaded? Yeah, so what?
Comcast is the worst of the worst. But I'm over a barrel. DSL in my area is way too slow/unreliable. And the hassle of changing to Dish too ugly to contemplate.
Those pinheads could make a lot more profit if they'd quit spending so much money on those crappy commercials they've been running for months.
Bad puns, unfunny and annoying. (Like my cousin.)
Always at the top of my list. It's one of those books that when you finish, you think "how the hell did he fit all that in so few pages?"
I can't remember if there's any sax or violins, but that's good for kids too.
It's actually worse, at least on AT&T -- they charge both sender and receiver. It cost me $10 to add the 200/mo feature for my wife and I on a "family" plan. There's a word for that sort of robbery.
But then there's also a word for fools like me who pay them.:-/
What happens if you turn all these elements on at the same time?' the principal research scientist at HP Labs asks. 'How do I make sure that the system doesn't explode?
... the US House of Representatives is a terrorist threat. They've done nothing but bend over for the Bush regime for years now, and I call that aiding and abetting. So there!
I think you missed the point. Joe Consumer does trust Mr. Marketer, but that trust is misplaced.
The problem isn't lack of transparency: it's that Joe Consumer actually doesn't really give a shit one way or the other.
I'll allow the government to monitor my cable line (internet, TV and voice) at a significant savings: order now at the low low rate of $695/month for the first 12 months, and we'll waive the $1000 setup fee!
At prices like this, can you afford NOT to eavesdrop?!?
No, no, no. I know about Opera's Block Content, and how to wildcard the urls, etc.
The FlashBlock extension for FF replaces hte animations with a button that allows me to
decide if and when to play it; and it happens automagically, not just after I've blocked specific content.
Yeah, I've been an Opera user for years (since 3.6* at least) and finally, with the 9.2 releases, think I'm ready to make it my default browser. There are still a couple of Firefox extensions that I wish would make it to Opera (like Flashblock and ForecastFox) but I still find myself using it 50+% of the time, mostly because of the speeddial feature.

I can't help but think there's some strategic reason for his actions that will become clearer upon appeal.
In a word, yes. As does the bail-out shenanigans, etc.
Speaking as someone who's been involved in IT for 30+ years, allow me to shout at you...."You're going the wrong way!!!"
Hey! Cynicism != trolldom, dammit!
...it's just a matter of time before he caves to lobbyist $$$.
That's good work, folks. Keep it up.
From what I've seen, nVidia never releases non-beta code. that way they can do without a QA team.

>Sorry, not interested - deleted Ditto that. It also installed something called "ffdshow" and doubletwist's uninstall leaves ffdshow intact. *sigh
Those "free" sites that consist of 90% adverts and 10% content are suddenly fairly expensive to view. Ain't capitalism great?

Wasn't this already accomplished w/ IPMI? At least in more expensive server hardware? What am I missing?

At first read, I thought they meant it wouldn't stick to dental work. Who cares about sidewalks and theater seats?

I'm glad to see someone else thinks so too. I was beginning to think it was just me, or that I'd misread it.
Another 16 months of this fuckwad Bush/Cheney administration to endure.
