  1. Not PCI compliant on Vodafone Customer Database Breached · · Score: 1

How the heck do they get away with having retrievable credit card details in their db? Once the CC# is in the database it shouldn't be retrievable.

How many places out there don't actually follow this simple rule?

Where I work we were worried that the banks may turn off our credit card processing facilities if we don't get PCI compliant. And that is maybe 1/40 of the customer base.

I am really puzzled - how does Vodafone get away with this in the first place? No audits?

Easy solution. Work at a company and ... have a backup of their security policy ready. Think of it as a template.

When you leave that company do a replace on the company name and make it the official policy of the new company.

In case you get an audit match the auditors requirements with your security policy and enhance it where it lacks using the format of the template you brought along.

During the time of the audit have signs up in the office, revoke the CEO's and any other big shots/pain in the ass user's special privileges like having no password complexity, automatic timeout, etc.

When the auditors leave relax and congratulate yourself on how you played your part in the whole accreditation/compliance/certification placebo crap.

On the other hand if you really dislike a user point out a random clause in the policy and have them fired for violating it.

Get rid of the last traces of democracy and create a total dictatorship, economically and politically. 95% of the people do not care and are happy to follow. The other 5% will dedicate their lives to the opposition and fight the system. Add to that a technologically advanced and strong military/police, combine that with fearmongering through corporate media - voila 95% are happy by default, the other 5% dream of martyrism and soon-to-come change and live in their own bitter happiness.

No charges - see here. And if you watch the footage and consider the circumstances, it bedazzles me how it can be blown out of proportion that much. They are three young adults who have been living together for 70 days, 24 hours a day. The girl and the 2 guys were very comfortable with each other and slept in the same bed, with her being topless and all of them hugging. There was some sort of sexual tension between them, so this did not come out of nowhere. The girl even said "Are you going to turkeyslap me now?" so she saw it coming. In the end she did tell them to stop and so they did.

It is a TV show and there is a lot of bullshit and manipulation through the way it is broadcast. However, these people do live their lives in there and form relationships that are probably stronger than one can imagine watching 10 minute blurbs of footage each day.

The politicians are just proving that it is not the TV show, but rather themselves who deserve the title Big Brother!

Not sure what system you are on, but for osx there is Locomotive. You will get a magnitude of libraries (I guess the DB2 stuff won't be in there just yet) plus a nice gui to start/stop webservers for your Rails projects. Not sure if you were after Rails or plain Ruby, but anyway.

On the IDE front you could check out RadRails. Again, this focuses on Rails instead of "just" Ruby.

However, I do believe that Ruby is one of those languages that you can learn by just using it from command line. You do not need an IDE or huge framework to do fun stuff. You can at least get a feel for how Ruby does stuff to put you off it or to keep investigating.

It's not a war, it's a market. Markets change. That's a good thing. Right now most people are happy with google. If something better comes along, I am sure nobody would stop embracing it just because they love Google so much. For shareholders and Google's owners it's probably different, as they want to keep on top and gain maximum market share to increase profits (or whatever). But as a consumer I couldn't care less if the best search engine is called google yahoo or msn. If a search engine searches well, I'll use it. If it doesn't - well, game over.

Absolutely correct. But never forget, what America has done in the past is good (Hoover Dam anyone?), if another nation out of similar reasons wants to do the same, it is bad.

Have you noticed how concerned all the first world super powers become when someone says that 1 billion Chinese will eventually want to drive a car? Or need a fridge? While fuel-guzzling SUVs with super power air condition are purchased for junior to complete the American dream of three cars for every family?

Not to worry though, if the "west" gets too concerned about environmental issues in the three gorges region, they might just claim that it was built with the pure intention to hide weapons of mass destruction in it. Outcome obvious.
