    The activities that the developers make who introduce a real and considerable risk to the society should be done by certified professionals and using the standarts for that activity. Developing software its a common name for a diverse group of activities in diferent kind of industries.

    Well tactically you sholud allways use the right tool for the problem. but strategically you should be aligned with long term goals and the vision of the CTO/CIO and other nonTechnical factors. Vendor independence may be one of the neccesaries key items to achieve the vision.

    The purpose of server farms with comodity hardware is just to avoid vendor lock-in, if you have a good business but you are tied to a vendor the Vendor has a better business than you. they can charge you whatever they want.

    The best technology won't necessarily win. The best marketed one will. (BetaMax, Superdisk, etc...)

    Best technology is very subjetive. easy to sell may be a quality aspect of the techonology, a sticky name.

    it depends of the idea that they are rewritting and the level of specialization, its no the same to re write a CRM than a Sarcasmeter.

    inally, in your perfect world where the rich have to give all their money to pay for your college, why would you want a college education anyway? You bust your ass through college, work hard, long hours in your job, and when you are successful, you'd have to give away your money to some angry kid who despises you for your hard earned success and is too lazy to pay for his own education! I would go for Knowledge, education isn't only about getting rich

    they need to first identify the crime, then make the law accurate. they always mess with the technology, they love to define computer terms like hyperspace e-mail then make ridiculous laws and impossible to fulfill
