    not true too much.
he never specified that there was PS2 is on a system. the bios will check even for usb keyboards and complain of one not being there. the fact that he says it's an old IPAQ is enough for me to believe in common sence that there are ps2 ports and no usb.

    but that's just be being a nit-pick.

just take an old keyboard and take out everything and leave the circuitry encased in a RadioShack platic box (very small, palm sized) and leave it in the back of the computer.

  3. slacker for life on Linux Distros for a Windows Software Developer? · · Score: 1

Slackware was my first linux distro and I believe it may be my last... unless I write my own with linuxfromscratch.org and probably use package management that compares to slack (or I might even include .deb and .rpm... evil, I know!)

But for what this fella needs, I can't say. There are distro zelots all over suggesting gentoo, MDK, RH, FC2... etc. and they all have their good points.

My _personal_ opinion on what he should use (and this is because I prefer it and do develop for windows on occation) is this:

Distro: Slackware. It's easy to set up (relatively), and performance is great. Most of it is manual so you'll spend some time learning about your hardware and modules more than you even know about the back of your hand. Otherwise use something RPM based (Mandrake, Fedora, RHE) or SuSe.

Window Manager: Backbox/Fluxbox (based off BB 0.65.0 code). They're essentially the same with minor differences. Simple, low footprint Window Managers that keep it simple on your display without the fancy graphics. Otherwise try Gnome or KDE, they're both good full "Desktops" in their own right.

Personal reccomendations of my own, with alternatives listed. Try also a product called "Win4Lin" where you can run windows inside of Linux fairly easily and get your work done. I don't work for them, but I bought an old magazine with Win4Lin inside of it. Very handy.

  5. French bashing justified??? Perhaps. on CeCILL: La Licence Francaise Du Logiciel Libre · · Score: 1, Insightful

It goes without saying, even in many of the other European countries I have visited recently, that the french have an arrogance about them that the USA can not even be compared to.

I don't say this to bash the french, or your comment (as it is a respectable opinion) however, in many instances throughout many aspects of the French economy, politics or culture, there is an "arrogance". It may be a cultural style of isolationism... but whatever you call it - it's prevelant in the medical industry (at times) and most notably technology, partly becaues of ignorance of technology and it's applications (like many other countries, even my own USA).

This is what I've noticed. My perspective is obviously going to be different. But I've traveled the globe for business and for pleasure. This "arrogance" (so quoted because it is the closest word I can't render at the moment), is noted and generally seen throughout neighboring countries and associated countries that are tied economically, socially or otherwise.

If I am wrong, I do apologise. This is only what one man, one slashdotter has noticed and observed throughout the world of business, medicine, economics and technology. But I hope this may either calm you in being offended. After all... they are only my observations.

    Hope this may help.
