It talks about the end of an era, not that it is completely dead. It is replaced on all fronts, the era where it was used a lot is over, that doesn't mean it is completely dead.

How many VHS drives are sold? Probably a lot, but I'd still say the ERA of VHS is gone and replaced by DVD. Imo off course.

Nowadays any school system administrator or teacher marginally computer illiterate is at least partial aware of opensource software like Firefox being free as in beer (they don't understand what free as in speech means, and won't listen when I try to explain.

But that's most likely because they don't need it. For most people, open source means that they get it for free, they couldn't care less about having access to the source code. Even most admins I know do not really know or care about programming anyway, so having access to the source code isn't an issue at all.

But can it always be measured like this? If we put aside busphrases such as "Work smarter, not harder", there's still a point there that your WPM may not show just how much work you've put into something. I often sit back and think and take some notes on paper when about to write an algorithm.

I may have misunderstood this whole issue, but I really don't see productivity being measured simply be registering keystrokes.

European laws and regulations are clear at the moment: software patents are not allowed. That means in any country.

At least it shows that politicans do not just blindly follow. If this continues, it will be difficult for national politicans to accept something the EU has rejected (more than once, this was a re-write wasn't it?)
