My wife gave birth last friday morning, and in my case, this wonderful event was accompanied by a lot of FUD.
I found that googling things like "changing diapers", "bottle feeding", and other procedures associated with infants to be most helpful and reassuring.
Anything new is of course going to be resisted by PHB's until PC World does an article describing how great it is... then the PHB's will want IPV6 is designer colors.
On a a similiar note, I woke up early one sunday morning, and Vacation was on TNT, they had just pulled into the cousins house, so I was watching and waiting for the see-saw scene (i french kiss, everyone does that, daddy says i am the best) Well they cut it out. Undeniably the funniest scene in that movie, and they cut it out. Sad...
If they want to learn Linux, then I recommend Slackware or Gentoo, those distros will offer the most learning experiences. However, if they just want to ditch windows, and use Linux instead, then SuSe or Ubuntu will be satisfactory.
This sort of thing is a necessity. With the variety of Distros and each having its own idea of where things should be, it leads to a lot of unecessary confusion. Regardless of whether the confusion is legitimate or slightly hyped by bullet points in paid research docs, it exists.
It would be interesting to hear from others who work at companies which are "IBM" houses (Thinkpads and Thinkcentres etc...). Is there talk of dropping Think* brands now that Lenovo is making them?
My company switched to Dell within a month of the sale. As one co-worker put it: It's like giving up your BMW for a Civic
i was not attacking the democrats as much as reacting to what i have seen as the left coming out of the woodwork to use this disaster to make a political point. how about the democratic leadership take action instead of conducting interview after interview complaing about the republican federal government.
btw, scolding me for what you thought was an ad-hominen attack, and then ending your speach with just such an attack, was brilliant.
If elite politicians had been taxing those plutocrats properly, and using that money for infrastructure, this would have never happened.
you could make an argument that the disaster may have been averted, or the effects lessened, but to say it would never have happened is an exageration. an exageration created to exploit the pain and suffering of people to advance your political agenda. pathetic.
What is more disgusting is the obvious inability for the local and state governments to cope with the disaster.
There are few cities on the planet that are more vulnerable to a relatively frequent (given the geography) natural disaster. A seaside city, below sea level, in a region that is affected by hurricanes almost yearly. Everyone knows this disaster was going to happen, it is impossible to avoid. Contrary to popular belief, there is not a government on this planet that can protect its citizens from nature.
What a government can do is react as quickly as possible to the disaster, and alleviate suffering. However, initial help MUST come from local and state governments. Federal help comes at the request of local governments.
Also, the Democratic Mayor, and Democratic Governor, complaining about the lack of help from the Republican president just reeks. The democrats wonder why they keep losing elections, and it comes down to this: when faced with adversity they complain about the Republicans. People recognize this as inherently weak leadership.
Think about Rudy Giuliani in the days following 9-11, then compare that with Ray Nagin's actions. Consider that New Orleans has prepared for hurricane disasters, and that New Orleans had nearly a week to prepare for the disaster.
shut up and go back to michaelmoore.com, where tough guy posturing consists of tucking your penis between your legs and prancing around in large cotton panties
better yet: Could you imagine what we could do with a beowulf cluster of these?

DAMN that GW Bush and his EVIL hurricane machine. Notice how Crawford,TX never gets hurricanes? Coincidence? No, no... the Religeous Right have mastered hurricane generation and are working feverishly in underground laboratories (Pat Robertson's basement and whatnot) on unleashing these natural disasters in attempt to rid the world of poor blacks and gays. San Francisco is next... the meterologists are going to shit a brick.

Linux was no help
what color LDAP are you using?
Shouldn't you be saving some whales, or fire bombing new housing projects that are infringing on endangered swallow nesting sites?

LA?
Are you referring to the last time the Lakers won the championship? The Simpson Verdict? Rodney King? 60's race rioting?
I think calling the stuff that happens in LA "Riots" is a bit extreme, really it is just looting accented by the occasional ass kicking.
At least they tried! And mommy says thats what counts.
Its just a herd of RIAA lawyers migrating

Is there a better reason to use linux?

netcraft surveys prove it.
The RIAA's lawyers are currently working on documents to stop this new threat to the entertainment industry!
The sites that prey on spelling mistakes and the like are just annoying ...
Learn from my mistake, Dick's Sporting Goods is not dicks.com
