Roaming profiles seem to be prior art for this one !. Also what about likes of NortonsGhost or Veritas and the myriad of backup systems that save user data to network for bare-metal recoveries. Puting magic words of world wide web just means using http to transfer files: nothing new and done many time before.
Bluecurrent probaly can't believe their luck in getting this patent.
User settings saved on a network so that you can re-use these when you re-install on another machine (asset) ! Shit, I would never have thought of doing that ! No my first thought when I re-install my PCs is to copy my files from my local hard disk to my local hard disk; you know, the one I'm about to format/junk/rebuild !.
Doh !.
Linux lives in kernel space not userspace. He's god (small G given he's an atheist) of that realm but not all others.
OpenOffice 1.1.0 works well. Solid, dependable and extremely cool PDF export from Writer.
No Patriot Act will stop terrorists. All it has done is lockdown regular Americans going about their business and create a unwelcome sense of unease. The cynic would say that with the collapse of the former Soviet Union, then some other Federalist State has to take up the reins of totalitarianism but its more serious than that.
Stop the cause not the effects of terrorism. Seriously look at where US aid funding goes. For every dollar the US gives to one side, you create resentment on the other side. Don't you feel a little resentful when someone in US society (pick your minority) gets Federal funding from your taxpayer dollar and you don't ? Well extrapolate this into the global arena and welcome to resentment on a global scale and boy are they pissed.
If your going to give aid then pass it through the established non-aligned aid agencies like Medecin Sans Frontiers and do some real work that helps foster friendships not make enemies.
For every aid dollar thats tied to a trade agreement or used for defence purchasing or used as carrot or stick is a dollar that some terrorist wants to stop and they will go to the source of funding to stop this aid flow.
I've nothing against aid but the way its been effected to date has helped kill those on 9/11; not good value for money.
Mandrake cooker is where new stuff goes for Mandrake distros.
The fault should lie with LG as its silly of LG drive to zap itself on what looks to be a logical command. OK no write on a read-only but flushing cache for something that doesn't have such a thing would logically mean that the command gets ignored.
Still can't wait for the latest MS virus to try and utilise this new feature. Thank goodness I have Mitsui and Sony drives, though I have used LG before.
My company (one-man band) is registered as a data controller and I hold this in very high regard. As someone who also doesn't want my own personal data used as a commodity I'm very aware of NEVER letting any data I have on anyone leave the EU.
To me sending personal data to the US would be as secure as a posting on a warez site running IIS that had been r00ted.
I have yet to find anyone who can identify any objection to the UK (and EU) data protection Acts
http://www.hmso.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/19980029.htm
Its one of the best laws we have. I personally like...
11. - (1) An individual is entitled at any time by notice in writing to a data controller to require the data controller at the end of such period as is reasonable in the circumstances to cease, or not to begin, processing for the purposes of direct marketing personal data in respect of which he is the data subject.
and
12. - (1) An individual is entitled at any time, by notice in writing to any data controller, to require the data controller to ensure that no decision taken by or on behalf of the data controller which significantly affects that individual is based solely on the processing by automatic means of personal data in respect of which that individual is the data subject for the purpose of evaluating matters relating to him such as, for example, his performance at work, his creditworthiness, his reliability or his conduct.
You guys'll learn eventually learn about data protection.

So he may call it "adware" and Gater Corporation calls it "GAINware" while the rest of us call it spyware, crapware, f*ckware,impossible-to-removeware,cookMyCPUware etc etc etc...It spys on people ergo its spyware.
Gonna be funny when you Americans spell 'colour' with a 'u' !
Or maybe UK books need a patch-kit to remove all the 'u's in various words !
Maybe thats why US books cost more - it takes time and money to correct the English language to US English.
An unusual anomoly given that the same book in a CD format would attract 17.5% VAT (sales tax).
Books used to be regulated by something called a Net Book Agreement which fixed the prices that books could be sold at. The Net book agreement was removed and straight away competition started.
My guess is that if a book in the US is higher than the UK then its because of some price fixing agreement of some kind.
Generally Gays are very clean and they probably use Macs. Why ? - because they usually earn more than others on average and can afford nice shiny new PowerPC based systems which us breeders just drool over in magazines.
I thought that the US was where you may not support someones views but you supported their ability to say them. I guess while the US was fighting the British for independence then it was OK then to have subversive views of independence but its not right now. F*cking two faced if you ask me.
a) Given that IIS is commercial software with a license from MS then indirectly MS has a commercial relationship and,
b) it won't belong until its 0wn3d.
They'll have to move to a free OS !
I'm guessing Bummer has drones to do updates on his PC before he gets in to work. Or maybe he just uses paper and crayons.
Because if he used XP which continuously prompts to update the latest patch then he would have realised a year ago that the Grand Security Edict hadn't really got to the troops. Maybe there is a internal version of XP that always silently updated the PC anyway.
Curious as to the power and air-con requirements for your server farm ?. Any chance of a real-time sensors for the farm such as a plot of farm size and page requests verses network bandwidth verses power and inside/outside temperature and humidity ?
Could be handy reference site for some large scale modeling for others. The Google farm must draw a fair amount of juice and take a few tons of cooling to stop it from glowing !.

Oh no , the first hack will be for obscure programming languages like Brainfuck to create the shortest program that produces the logo as ASCII art.

Nah, times have moved on; we love screen shots since KDE et al got anti aliasing.
