  1. Re:My iPod + iRock = devalued radio (wasted ads) on Smart Billboards · · Score: 4, Funny

What's going to happen is the billboard will sense your iPod playing mp3's and assume you've "stolen" them. A message will then appear telling you to pull over and await your RIAA overlords and cavity search.

You may want to find an updated list. Or should I just print copies of the messages and leave them on the grave of Massachusetts Representative Joe Moakley (1927-2001)?

  4. Re:Just singles on Legal US Music Downloads Beat CD Single Sales · · Score: 1

I disagree. The whole point of ventures like iTMS is that singles ARE a very popular way of purchasing music today. I believe this is why the music execs are so reluctant to support these services.

When people can pick and choose the music they want, rather than be forced to buy on overpriced, crappy album, their positions and influence are irrelevant.

  5. Re:George Orwell... on Smartcards to Track London Commuters · · Score: 1

What a bitch of a time tracking them though.
    "There it is!"
    "Whoops, gone now."
    "There it is again!"
"What the hell? It's gone again"
    "Got it!"
    "Dammit!"

  6. Beef stroganoff on Worst Jobs In Science · · Score: 3, Funny

I had a friend who worked at Plimoth Plantation in the animal husbandry program. He was actually an actor, and had played Governor Bradford for quite awhile, but was bored with it, and wanted to try something different.

So his first day in the new job comes and goes, and I call him to see how it went.
    "Not so good", he says.
    Why not? I ask.
"I had to draw the bull today" he tells me with loathing. Draw the bull? WTF? What's so bad about that? And what does art have to do with animal husbandry/
Not "draw" he tells me.... Draw the bull... you know...

There's a moral somewhere to that story, something about choosing between Governor and stroking off a large animal, but I'm not quite seeing it.

Maybe Gray Davis can enlighten me.

  7. IBM and the ant on SCO Taking Linux Discussion To Japan · · Score: 2, Funny

This whole saga reminds me of an old joke, which I'll update to make more relevant.

One day there was an elephant named IBM walking through the jungle, when he accidentally got a thorn stuck in his foot. He hissed in pain, and pondered his predicament, when an ant named SCO overheard him.

After being told the problem, SCO the ant said, I'll help you out by removing the thorn on one condition; If I do it, you have to let me fuck you in the ass.

IBM the Elephant looked around, thinking this was a joke, but eventually said, 'Sure, why not?', figuring how bad could an assfuck be from an ant. So SCO the ant walks over, pulls out the thorn, and says, alright, Pay Up!, and starts climbing IBM's leg.

Once he's in position, SCO starts pumping like mad, fucking the elephant in the ass. Meanwhile, IBM is checking his watch, wondering when SCO will get started.

While this is going on, a couple of monkeys, named Slashdot and Linux, are in the trees watching this whole thing in amusement. When SCO starts fucking IBM in the ass, they start howling, laughing their asses off. They laugh so hard, they knock a coconut loose, which falls and hits IBM in the head.

    Oww! screams IBM, 'That hurt!'
Hearing this, SCO looks up and screams 'TAKE IT ALL BITCH!'

  9. A bunch of great authors on A Good Summer Read? · · Score: 1

The Gap Cycle by Stephen R. Donaldson was great. Anything by Ian Rankin, James Lee Burke, or Andrew Vachss, for mysteries. Lucius Shepard writes great sci-fi, definitely not the same old thing. Several others have mentioned Lovecraft, definitely great old school sci-fi/horror. Joe Lansdale is hilarious, Jack Whyte, and George R.R. Martin are all solid.

Damn, I gotta do some re-reading. Good luck.

  10. Re:Who really cares? on 100 Best Companies To Work For · · Score: 1

As an employee for Pella (#12), I can say this is not bullshit. Corporate takes great pride in this recognition. This is easily the best company I have ever worked for; my manger cares about me and my job, and supports me whenever I want or need it. Of course, the year end bonus of $10K (yes, $10K, which went to everyone, regardless of position) may be skewing my opinion.
