  1. Not suprising. on Librarians to the Rescue · · Score: 4, Insightful

Librarians and free media have always been the standard-bearer for issues of personal liberty. A while back, a group of publishers sued libraries for distributing books. Libraries have carried books, even when they've been shunned by society. They were the first ones to rail against the PATRIOT Act. They are one of the most significant forces against promoters ignorance, misinformation, disinformation, and junk science in existance right now. Remeber who had the fewest misconceptions about the Iraq war?

Also, how the hell do those ideas make any sense? Tarriffs on online newspapers? To do what? e-tailers to process 911 calls? I don't even know what they mean by that.

Of course, modem technology was rather scarce at the time, so security wasn't the top concern. This thing was never designed for security.

    4. Honestly, who doesn't use an optical mouse these days? That's more $$ right there when the wheel breaks down or clogs because AOLers don't know how to fix it.
All in all, this is a lousy deal for which one could get a far better PC with far better internet for likely less money.

The UK is more urban than the US. S. Korea is more urban than the US. These gagets, especially cell phones, facilitate an urban lifestyle by allowing quick communication between people away from a phone. Cell phones just don't make as much sense in rural areas because even if you could see somone, he or she might be 50 miles away. Quick action in social networks is more essential in a densly populated populated areas, thus allowing the growth of cell phones. Like any other gadget, e.g. the computer (internet), phone (fax), and electricity (telegraph), it's natural for changes in the communication protocal to grow off it. I predict that within 10 years the videophone will be in majority use in Seoul and Hong Kong.
