    I wonder what the world will be like when simulated sex is so much better and easier to get than the real thing. I think the day will come when there is so many things that are "better than sex" that women will have to be paid to get pregnant. This will solve several problems such as sex with minors, rape, teenage pregnacy as all of these will take emormous effort compared to the simulated sex and have none of the consequences. I think we will need an incubator that can grow a human from conception to the point of birth in order to keep the human race from going extinct.

    First one needs the speed of a hard drive to another hard drive to even consider it. Your Atari ST games were probably around several megabytes and I am looking to have many gigabytes of movies transfered to my removable drive. I would hope that a gigabyte per minute or more could be achieved. Second a removable hard drive could be rewritten more times than even a dvd-rw and could contain more than one movie. Third , soon there will be movies in hd-tv which again will need a removabe in the 10's of gigabytes of storage.

    I would like to see this lead to a new way of selling movies. I would like to buy a removable disk drive which I would take to the store and have them transfer any movie I would like to purchase on to that drive. I would then take that drive home and transfer the movie onto my massive 1 terabyte drive. This would mean that the store would never be out of stock and could have access to millions of movies. I do not believe that the MPAA will agree to this plan as it would mean that I could transfer the movie to as many hard drives as I wanted to but I believe the most people would not cheat on this system.

    A remote is needed for several reasons. One if your spouse or children disagrees with your selection than the one with the remote get the choice. Two I would think that it has to mute the tv while giving the command. Three the microphone would have to be near the speaker to drown out all of the other noises in the house(refigerator, furnance, other people talking).

    It would seem to me that with the great accuracy and concrete penetrating weapons that we possess that we could establish a future date when the United States would destroy all of our nuclear weapons. I believe that we could do this unilateraly. I believe we could wipe out all the leadership of any country that dared to launch an attack on our country and hopefully we will be able to intecept their missile before they reach our cities. I do not believe that we can morally tell anyone not to possess nuclear weapons unless we dedicate ourself to a date when we do not possess them too.

    I worry about the young grade school students today. What will become of those who do not excell. In the past they could do manual labor but I believe in the future there will be very little demand for manual labor as robots will do most of it. One sees the robots that Japan is producing now. What will they be like in 20 years. If the computer is any indication they will be at least 1000 times more productive as they are today. One already sees it today as they are 10's of millions of able bodied americans between the ages of 20 to 65 that are not working at all. I believe that in 20 years there will be more people in that age group not working than are working.

    I wonder if one would write data to it and then store it in a safe place for 20 years would one still have the original data on it? It is very questionable if one uses a cdr or dvdr disk if that data would still be present.

    I want every electrical device to be able to communicate with a computer located in the circuit breaker box. It would inform that computer that it is pluged in and how much current it needs. The computer would know where it is pluged in and how much current is flowing through the wires it would then decide if it would allow current for that device. I want the computer to know everything about all my electrical devices and all my appliances even if they only use gas or water. I want it to be able to do corrective actions if any problems exist such as a water, gas leak or electrical short. I think these are doable in the near future and should result in huge savings from accidental damage from fire and water or gas leaks.

    I am sure that most people would rather look at a menu which will give access to thousands of movies than look through several shelves of dvds to locate a particular movie among maybe hundreds of dvds. I am sure that the former will take less than 10% of time and will probably cost less than 10% of the cost. I am sure that the vast majority of the movies people possess are not watched more than twice at most. There will be no need for the huge amount of space those movies take up too. There will be no danger to the consumer of loss through either theft or damage from misuse or fire. Equipment with no moving parts on average will last alot longer too. Taking everything into account I am sure that the vast majority of people will download rather than possess.

    There is an interesting series of articles about quantum astronomy at http://www.space.com/searchforlife/quantum_astrono my_041111.html . It discusses the weirdness of the double slit experiment. They are now trying to do an experiment with light coming from a sun exploding at about a billion light years away from earth and using two super galaxies as the two slits. They than stated by changing how we measure that light we somehow effect how that light was transmitted which occurred over a billion years in our past. To me that would mean that we can somehow communicate with the past.

    The education one gets must be what another is willing to pay someone because they have that knowledge. One must continue to learn until one retires from the work force. I work for a local electronic's repair shop. But electronics are being made so cheaply that they are not even design to be repaired. The only work that makes economical sense is to repair the very large and expensive televisions. I have a 32 inch television that is over 5 years old now and if it breaks I really do not think I will get it repaired. I know that my repair shop would not even pick it up if I gave it to them for free. I will probably have to pay someone to pick it up to get rid of it. What I am saying is that all the efforts I put in learning how to repair electronics will not help me make a decent living.

    I see the shopper not even allowed near the merchandise as there will be computer monitors which will allow a shopper to go through a virtual store. The real store will be rows of selfs very close together and very tall. Items will be retrieved by platform with a mechanical arm that will be capable of lifting the merchandise and placing it on the platform. Alot of people will do their shopping at home via the internet. They will than drive up to the store where they will be directed to the proper place to pick up their purchases. They will than pay for them and place them in their car and drive off without ever even entering the store.

    I do not know why they are still using the 128M bit chips as I thought most ram manufactures had ceased making them in favor of the 256M bit chips. In fact I was hoping that they had enough experience with the 1G bit chips to cease producing the 256M bit chips and concentrate on it. It has aready been more than 5 years since they started producing the 1G bit chip. I would have hoped that they would have a 4G bit chip at least in the experimental stage with it having a production date by now. I guess Moore's law has slowed down for memory at least.

    IBM develops inexpensive new supercomputer than sells personal computer business to a chinese company. Why would they do this if they could use Linux and this chip and virually become a monopoly of the pesonal computer world(both hardware and software)?

    I would think that more advice on the changes that have occurred and will accurr would be needed. I use to program in assembly language on a 8 bit machine with either 16k or 32k bytes of memory. The number 255 could be strored in a register. Now with 64 bit machines a number with 18 digit precision is available. Hard drives now store 500G Bytes of information but they will be reduced to being back up as even the most lengthly data base will be brought into magnetic ram memory where moving billions of bytes of information to insert a record will take milli seconds to accomplish. As for programming to increase the speed of execution what will it mean if your code takes 10 times longer if it mean the difference of 1 to 10 nano seconds. Programming a computer is alot easier today than it was 20 years ago and is still alot harder than it will be 10 years from now. There will be a huge reduction in the need for programmers because of the reuse of code and ease of programming that will be available very soon.

    I read the article and I guess there is a large wheel in the sky with a hub located maybe 5 miles high. From there is a closed loop cable to turn a turbine on the ground. How much does 10 miles of cable weigh since that wheel would have to support it. How would it be conected to this hub? I do not think by friction so there would have to be cogs on the cable and still there would be a need to maintain alot of force to keep the cable taut. It would have been nice if they could have a drawing of the system to further explain it.

    I believe that some company will give away the hardware so people will sign up for their service just like cell phones today. The people who do will not have to worry about the hardware as it will be like cable box today if it breaks it will be replaced for free. They will have access to billions of dollars of software and video for a monthly fee. The computer will have zero maintenance and zero worry so it will attract a huge amount of people.

    This program is being run by alot of people who have downloaded it from United Devices. They have over a million volunteer with close to 3 million machines. Yesterday alone over 93 years of computer time was donated to the folding protein project. United Devices started out as a search for a cure to cancer. It has since started and completed searches for cures to both anthrax and smallpox. They have now started this protein folding project with the hope that the vast majority of it's volunteer will continue their donations as there does not seem to be enough cancer work to keep giving fresh data to those volunteers.

    It depends on one's reaction to the television set. If it breaks and cost more to repair than a new one, one would replace that set with a new one. Even if it is not broken if a better set is available than one would buy the better set and either sell the set or place it in another room. Now if one truly loves another person and that person becomes disabled or if one finds another person that is somehow better, one would not replace that person. True Love is different than gratitude which is given only when one receives something.

    The problem with broadband is the lack of services provided. There should be a central computer that pings all the computers on a timely basis and determines what the problem is if one or more do not respond. Since broadband is always on it should be able to provide all the alarm services needed for a household. Fire, Burgarly, and medical are just starts. Lack of heat in the winter, refegeriator problems, gas leaks, water leaks should all be covered by broadband with the ability to respond. When all these are provided the computer will be more common the phones and the savings will be huge.

    In a few years broadband will make all of these problems go away as almost everyone will not have any local storage at all. A local isp will handle all storage needs. We will pay per view and will have the ability to watch what we want when we want with all local controls that are needed(pause, reverse and fast forward). How much easier it will be just to sit down in front of the tv and use a menu to determine what one wants to watch instead of having to find a dvd and than setup the player. No one would even want the number of dvds required to store all the movies or would want to look through all of them to find the correct one if they did have them. Software will also be pay per use. In a few years just buying a computer will give one access to all the movies, tv programs ever made and will have access to billions of dollars in software. Just think of the reduction in storage needs as instead of everyone storing billions of bytes of software it will all be stored only one time at the isp. I would bet that most people storage consist of less than 1% locally generated data.

    I hope the consumer will be able to replace all local storage with absolutely nothing. I think with all the new wireless broadband coming out at very high speeds we should be able to store all of our data at one's isp. We should even be able to take pictures from either a still or motion camera with all the data being wirelessly sent to our isp for further editing or use at one's home computer which will be either wired or wirelessly connected to that isp. One's computer should not be bigger than a paperback book and have zero maintainance to it. Software should be paid for by a per use fee.

    I want both speech and noise recognition. I want to put a speaker/microphone is every room of my house. I want the computer to talk to me all the time. I basically want it to keep track of me all the time. When I am awake it should asks me if I am allright several times a day. Whenever I start something like taking a shower it should know how long it takes me and ask me if I take too long. It I start cooking something it should know how long it will take and remind me if I did not tell it I turned it off. When I leave the house it should ask me how long I expect to be gone. It should be able to recognise all noises around the house and than determine if the noise is a problem such as a leaky water pipe or gas line or the noise of a fire or someone unexpectedly being in my house(burglar). It should be able to respond to a problem by notifing someone(me, neighbor, relative, police, hospital, fire department). When I exercise it should know exactly how much I accomplished and encourage me to as much or more the next time I need to exercise. It should be both a mentor and a protector.
