Try a Toshiba Magnia SG20 or SG30. They are just a little pc in a neat box. Has a 20-30GB laptop HD, 128mb ram, and runs stock redhat 7.3 with some stuff added (web interface, display stuffs). That can change at your will. Check Ebay.
I got mine done June 2nd. I love it. I had both eyes done at the same time and now see with 20/15 vision. It really is a noticable different from wearing glasses. The only problem I have had is dryness in my right eye, but that is tolerable and getting better.
Well worth the money - I paid $699/eye in the midwest.
I am in the exact same situation. I left my consulting job almost 2 years ago and my former employer has thrown work my way and I have picked up a lot on my own. Sometimes I get out, some weeks I don't. When I don't, I make it a point to go somewhere and talk to people. If that means going to the mall and talking to the chicks at stores or going to have a drink at the tavern, it has to be done. Cabin fever from this kinda living will lead to a lot of strange behaviour, so just go do something. Separating the areas does no good. I use my spare bedroom as an office. Just outside the door is where I will be when I am not working - it's not enough. The only solution is to get out.
Good luck.
That is a stupid remark and kind of insulting. Some people have jobs and work for open source companies like Ximian or Redhat or others. I happen to own a consulting firm and can spare some time for a fun project. To assume that all free software/open source software developers are kids working in their parents basement is simply ignorant. You've been modded up at this point by a flock of fools.

Erick
Wow!!! Would anyone really fall for this? Imagine a rather innovative piece of software being stored there. Then it gains popularity and cathes the eye of the M$ people. Wouldn't this make it easy for them to, um, borrow it??!??! Hell, that is even easier than the copying they do now!

Fuck off you stupid son of a bitch. I was only wondering what the fuss was all about and why someone/some group/some company (rhat) doesn't try to create a competitor to exchange server. I haven't the time, but thought it was worth suggesting. In reference to another reply, NOT another exchange client, a server. Pay attention. You fucking morons that hang out here haven't got a clue. All you want to do is flame people - so fuck you. A good exchange server competitor/challenger is not just a calendaring/smtp server. It would require that, contact space, a simple install routine and an easy configuration tool as well as support for other exchange clients like outlook so migration is possible. Get your fucking heads out of your asses, stop flaming people and learn how to read.
Why is everyone making such a big deal about Blender? And going so far as to buy it as a community to GPL it? All I see here is people bitching about it (not intuitive, interface sucks, missing crucial features). Why not join together as a community and purchase something better like a mail/calendaring server that could compete with exchange? This would be FAR more beneficial to the community and the world! Isn't Bynari's Insight server available? Why the hell doesn't the community get organized and purchase that? Or look for something else. Exchange is the real killer server app and the open sores community still has nothing to counter it.
Netscape 4.x, imo, was never a platform. It was only a crappy, behind the times web browser. It still is. Mozilla, on the other hand, is a viable platform. It is much different than the 4.x series and it's crappy predecessors. IE3 was a better browser than NS4.
Oh, well! Now is the time for Mozilla to rule the world.:-)

FarScape is a kickass series. Very well done and almost realistic. :-)
Yeah, taught my cat that. Pretty easy. And she loves to do it. Almost like my parents lab. :-)
