Please do not portray your belief system as representiative of or pertaining to all Christians. I consider myself a Christian (scary term, these days), but do not ascribe to the beliefs you have outlined here. I have my beliefs, you have your beliefs. To state either set as fact, especially fact that defines what others believe is unfair and misleading.

He doesn't (at least as mentioned in the OSNews piece) say that there will be ONLY two OSes left. I quote:
He did say though that "fast forward 10 years, the two leading OS technologies will be Linux and Windows" hinting that most others (Sun, Mac?) will be eclipsed from the main business scene.
That's not saying that MacOS or *BSD or Sun or anything else will be dead and gone. FUD (unintentional or not) from the poster, methinks...

Sure, if you're just begging to lose data. Those things are 4 250 GB drives RAIDed together in a stripe. One drive goes out, all of your data is toast. Plus, there's no cooling. 4 high performance drives wedged together in one box without a fan. BAD idea. Sure, you could mirror them. Still doesn't sound very safe to me. Add in LaCie's, um, legendary customer service and reliability, and, well...

Just so you know, the way to get it to open in column view is to open the window, change the view, and immediately close it again. No problem! Yeah, it's stupid and undocumented, but there it is. I'm guessing you also use 10.2 or earlier. 10.3 is a lot nicer about holding onto the view. 10.1 and before would sometimes change over. 10.2 is what I described above.

Stop yer whining and just buy the extended warranty. Also, consider that now, mysteriously, you can replace the battery. Whoa, imagine that! The company's eeeevil because it listened to its customers and started providing the service. And, btw, as Apple doesn't make the hard drives, it would be difficult for them to insure that they lasted 15 years. 'Cause, you know, hard drives typically do...

Yup. I've found that the Sacremento store is far less painful than the Manhattan Beach store. And they have parking! Still, I have heard some idiot there trying to sell a woman and her son a GeForce4 MX PCI card (which was on sale) as a gaming video card! (this was within the last few months, so it wasn't even like the GF4MX was even considered a halfway decent card!) My friend steered them the right way, and I think they ended up buying parts to build a new machine.

Reminds me of how McDonald's makes the most popular hamburger in the US. Almost no one would equate McDonalds with quality burgers, but they're the most ubiquitous, so they win in the polls. If only people would realize that Windows is the computing equivalent of a McDonald's hamburger... However, I would not put Cisco in that category.

Dammit, I can't figure out how to fix the link. So sue me... There goes my good karma.

I was wondering who would mention Marathon. Boy, most of the Mac people on /. are new to the platform, eh? (/flamebait) But the Marathon series was truly fantastic for the time. And I still play it now. Great plot, fun multiplayer, and the best shotguns in a game, ever. Mmm, dual shotguns... Spent an awful lot of college locked in a small room with no windows playing that game and then wondering what time it was, only to discover sunrise when we left the building. Heh.

Thanks for the tip... I just bought one of those for my Athlon-now-I'll-void-my-warranty-1400. Personally, I think that perhaps they should have an approved list of heatsinks and paste. AFter all, some 3rd party heatsinks are total crap, but many are better than the block-o-aluminum that AMD gives you. On the other hand, I'm sure that you can void your Apple warranty by replacing the monster heat sinks on those.

4.7 GB vs. 300 GB AIT3 (or even 100 GB AIT2). That's a whole hell of a lot of DVDs. I've got clients in the graphic arts industry who archive to DVD-RAM (2.6 GB/side, in this case), and one job spans several of these. Imagine backing up the whole office (and all of the jobs) every night. Their backup (and truly rather insufficient at this time) is a 4 tape AIT 25/50 autoloader for each day. And I agree with the above poster about hd vs. tape. Remeber, MTBF mean Mean Time Between Failure. Not Mean Time Between It Might Fail. It means FAIL. As in, they will always fail. And what happens to the RAID when multiple drives fail?
