Too bad you were modded as overrated, I thought you made a good point. I probably have a different reason for not wanting to pick on people for grammar and spelling: people visit Slashdot from all over the world, not just the english speaking countries.

If we're going to be so anal about how people speak english, then how can people just learning english participate? That's a pretty shitty way to discriminate against people expanding their ability to communicate.

I don't believe it'll happen again, but for different reasons. Do you think anybody in this generation is going to do anything but fight in a hijack situation?

There's another reason a second attack like this is not as likely as it was before 9-11. (I know, confusing sentence, keep reading) Too much damage was done, too many lives were lost, too many lives could have been lost. As a result, the entire world sided against Al Qaeda(sp?) in some form or another. I think Mr. Laden expected the world to stand up and attack the US, instead, the world shunned his actions. Things might have been different if the towers didn't actually fall. There are people in this country who probably would have applauded.

It's all speculation, so take it with a grain of salt. It does explain why we haven't seen much Al Qaeda since then.

I don't think he had you in mind. I think he's referring to the gamer who wants new games every so often. I fit into that category, and I think Linux would be a ridiculous OS to have for that. The main reason being that Windows not only gets the good stuff, but it also gets the stuff a lot sooner than Linux does.

Instead of getting a system and waiting for stuff to trickle down to me, I found the games I want and picked the system that plays those. So I have a Windows PC and a GameCube. Linux might be on the radar if it didn't get hand-me-downs. ;)

On the other hand, there are people who find games to be a secondary priority. Linux is probably fine for them. Heck MAME alone (like you said) should be good for them. I do agree with NG, though, that people who are reserved about switching to Linux because of games are going to be disappointed.

There's a lot you can do with 640K and text mode. If one were inclined, they could probably handle quite a few of today's regular tasks with a 640k machine running a few measly megahertz. Computers aren't exactly being programmed with peak efficiency in mind. (That's not a bad thing)
