morpheus (preview ed.) uses the gnutella network, for which there are several clients on different platforms. of the top of my head, limewire is available for linux, mac, and just about any other Java capable OS. You can get it at Limewire.com.
indeed, liquid N2 isn't all that dangerous. Just don't put your hand in a bucket of the stuff. What you CAN do is pour some of the stuff over your hand. Looks scary, but really isn't. Be careful though to pour it over, dont let it form a nice puddle in your palm.. that would be bad. But letting it flow over your hand was a favourite game back in the chem lab.. cos there's loadse fun with liquid N2.
did the seller (elcomsoft) export software from russia to the US, or did the buyer import software from russia into the US..?
There is ofcourse another problem with your pickpocket reference: pickpocketing is illegal in both britain and france, elcomsoft's product is only questionable in the US, not in russia(it's perfectly legal in most countries, although certain uses may not be)
>Option #4 basically says that you are absolutely a cheapscape. You want the service, but don't want to give anything back to support the practical matters (servers, electricity, bandwidth).
ok.. here's how I view it: the ads are an agreement between/. and marketeers. They're free to do so. Nowhere have I agreed to view ads. But I do give back.. I give back content. I give my opinion. And opinions and content from the readers is what/. thrives on, what makes/. what it is. Marketing is the most annoying form of speech I know, and a big part of free speech is that I dont HAVE to listen to you.
>It's advertising free, and actually contains useful content!
Useful content.. just let me get this straight for a moment... You're trying to get/.ers to move, and of all things you have to mention USEFUL CONTENT? Please.. if we WANTED useful content, then why the fuck are we HERE??? We wwant stories about microsoft being the bad guys, linux ALMOST making it in the desktop market, fights about how much better the BSD license is over the commie pinko GPL and our daily whine from MPAA/RIAA. we dont want news. we just want our own opinions confirmed. Once in a while there's a new toy, but that's about it.. either I'm filtering all the ads (and before you start.. ads are an agreement between the marketroid and the sender of the ad, in this case/. and neither of'em is me. I never agreed to any ad), or I'm leaving. I'll get my mix of diverting stupid stories elsewhere. (btw.. try trolling on a board for marketeers... TONS'o'fun, although at times a bit easy.. they're easily confused) guess I should end my rant.. having a stressful day is not good for my lucidity, and being in a coffeeshop doesn't help much either).

ok.. here's one of my pet-peeves: localization. I hate it. Causes all sorts of annoyances: menu-items translated differently across apps, english dialog and localized yes/no buttons (from the OS), urgh..
yup. but they aint selling the battle.net server software, and have protected it. As I understand it, bnetd is a cleanroom implementation. It was built from the ground up. Nobody stole the code, they're just getting competition that's better and cheaper than they are.
You _think_ it's the best. I disagree. The pro-corporate BSD license allows closing of the source, which means less rights for the user. The GPL doesn't have that problem.
BSD is not the licence to obsolete all others. the future is dual licencing, IMO.

well.. if i like a CD, and a friend doesnt know the cd yet, I share my* music with him. if he's on the other side of the ocean, the easiest way is to send him an mp3(or ogg etc..). i can have him listen to the CD with me at home (sharing), but I can't do it over the net. perfectly legitimate, if not legal..i am also allowed by law to give him a tape of said CD. but not over the net.

wasn't Stephen Hawking, it's from a poem:
Perils of Modern Living
Harold P. Furth
Well up above the tropostrata
There is a region stark and stellar
Where, on a streak of anti-matter
Lived Dr. Edward Anti-Teller.
Remote from Fusion's origin,
He lived unguessed and unawares
With all his antikith and kin,
And kept macassars on his chairs.
One morning, idling by the sea,
He spied a tin of monstrous girth
That bore three letters: A. E. C.
Out stepped a visitor from Earth.
Then, shouting gladly o'er the sands,
Met two who in their alien ways
Were like as gentils. Their right hands
Clasped, and the rest was gamma rays.
