GSM phones are often SIM locked to one carrier. That can be hacked around and the carriers don't care. There can be problems with that because it seems that if your phones IMEI number is not programmed into thier system, you dont get OTA updates properly . (OTA updates are for your phones preferred/allowed list of towers, important if you're on a free roaming plan)
The fact that both versions are different and can't even do all the same things (I'm talking about Access specifically) undermines your attempt to undermine his point.
It's not much different than what most news companies do now. Most get thier info from shared sources like the AP.
If they've got enough cash they'll send someone out to the scene, but it's rare that these people "live from the scene" give any more or different information than is available to the guys back in the studio.
Most media sources are all the same, the only differences are in the biases and if they admit them. (FOX with it's nudge-wink admissions of it's bias, or CNN with it's denials of it's bias)
What they seem to be trying to get to is raw facts. I wish them luck, but I doubt they'll succeed. (I think they'll attract mostly people with an activist bent)
About the least biased news I've seen lately is c-span. No useless "anchor" trying to frame reality for you, just the raw feed for you to intrepret. I'd like to see the same model applied wider.
Yes, yes you do.
The is a product for the Mac which is also called MS Office, but it's not quite the same thing. You could use emulation, but then you are running windows.
Maybe it's different where you are, but around here, if you're not a student (not paying tuition) you're not supposed to be there at all. A lot of the time they don't check for ID's but if they do, out you go.
AFIAK the way around that problem is to stick in a drive with a working IRIX install, and run a utility as root that would reset that PROM password.
I have a similar problem, a working Indigo (1) that I don't know the password for the OS or the PROM. The only thing I can think of is to slap a SCSI card in my PC and compile SGI filesystem support into a kernel. Then I could rewrie the passwd file. A lot of work for an old system.
Not the same error. The minority in the car has commited no crime yet, and may not at all. The government WILL botch up higher education given half a chance.
Also, just what could the teacher have done? Unless he's got a boatload of cash to pay a lawyer, he has no power here.
In fact the main probelm faced by higher educations these days is the poor "quality" of HS graduates entering the system.
Lets be honest, all the political initives didn't start by asking, "how do we make the system better?". They start by asking, "How do I get more bri... *COUGH* campaign contributions?"
By most objective measures the US K-12 system is struggling, yet listen to any local or state school official. Even here in SC (where we can be 50th in test scores and still have the education superintendant run for higher offfice!), the officials are jumping though hoops to try to say that it's not so bad and things are actually going well. "No problems here, just send more cash!"
Do you think that the industry is doomed to be under the thumb of less than a handful of publishers, buying up every promising studio?(and keeping the cost of promotion so high that small guys could never keep up)
Or is there a chance for a new wave if independent developers breaking free from the EAs of the world?
P.S. I loved the Headcrabs expression in the second panel! Brilliant!
You dont have to be a marxist or other kind of wingnut to realize that we have grown a instant gratification addicted generation. The TV tell them what they want and they go buy it. Now the online media does the same thing faster.
Buy more! Don't worry about the cost, just use this card! Don't worry about those credit card bills, just refinance your house! Don't worry about that mortgage payment, just work more! The 50" plasma screen is worth it! Trust us!...and so on...
Our standard of living has increased, but at what cost? We can get dvd players for $30, but you have to buy a new one every six months. Would it possibly be better to pay twice or three times that but have something that lasts? What about the jobs that had to be sent overseas to make that player so cheap? Would we be better off paying a little more yet having fewer unemployed?
Hard to say, there's lot of variables, but it seems to me that noone in any kind of position of power is even looking at these questions. Everyone is stuck in short term thinking.
Gotta get the numbers up for the next quarterly report, worry about the long term later. Problem is, later never comes. There's always another market cycle to optimise.
I did have my tv-out run to the vcr and all that, but I eventually just quit bothering and started using my PC with it's progressive scan screen and 5.1 audio for everything.
Someone I know went a step further and uses a projector & a real HI-FI with his PC.
Because the simple job of reporting is not lofty enough for the media, they fancy themselves "journalists".
And in true journalistic fashion, they brew up diatribes like this to uphold the belief that you need a special kind of education and skillset to get the facts from the field to the viewer/reader.
True, some people can't handle the raw data, but is that any worse than having thier head spun by "proper" journalism telling them what to think?
I only ask the question because, at least in theory, all MAC addresses are supposed to be unique. So I would think a batch of cards with all the same addresses would be considered faulty.
I don't know about where you are, but if we're talking undergraduate, 85% of your course load is reqired stuff. Unless you're on the seven year plan :)

What makes you think he has a choice of courses? 75% or so or a undergrad curriculm is set in stone.

Which is exactly what the guy behind IL has done in his past ventures. Real trustworthy bunch there.
Thanks!
Check out the Aimpoint sights. The red dot stays within the scope. Pretty cool, although mine has no magnification whatsoever.
Not everyone considers portability a "must have" in thier projects. (though comments should be regardless)
Try re-reading the parent post.

I'd rather have reporters than journalists myself.
