    This Christmas, they couldn't think of any $nameBrand stuff to put on their Christmas lists.

    I believe there is a company in the UK which sets up methane producing digesters for communities. They offer this as an alternative to fracking.

    I know that there is a lot of oil in the ground. I thought it was made millions of years ago after the carboniferous period where plants and animals were buried under pressure deep in the earth.
    So... what is your source for oil being formed today? The carboniferous period is long gone and it takes eons to bury stuff to get the required temperature and pressure.

    I have an HP LJ 4L printer which I bought new in 1992. I put a new cartridge in it ($10) every year or two and it just keeps printing as good as the day it was new.

    it was expected to time shift a small amount of wind energy and provide network services and emergency back-up in case of a major problem.

    They had a major problem, and it did what it was supposed to do. How and why does this stun people?

    Since this is new technology and Tesla, there were lots of naysayers who were predicting that it just wouldn't work.
    It's news that it worked as it was designed to. It stabilized the grid. It was designed to stabilize the grid.

    This is fundamentally different from a UPS. A UPS takes over and provides power to a load when the mains supply is lost. It disconnects the mains power and generates its own.
    The Tesla battery pushes power to the grid when the grid is overloaded and unstable (as manifest by a drop in frequency). Adding power to the grid stabilizes it and prevents shutdown.

    First of all, OP isn't talking about injecting frequency.

    I didn't say he did. The summary talks about injecting 7.3MW to "arrest a slump in frequency".

    When the system is overdrawn on power the high load slows down the turbine generators and the frequency drops. The solution is to add power to the system. The battery added 7.3 MW of power to the system which helped to bring the frequency back up to nominal 50 Hz.

    It's a kind of "soft" censorship. The words are not "banned" but if you use them, there could be consequences.
    Kind of like "newspeak".

    I don't run any anti-virus software on any of my computers (Mac, Linux, Chromebook).
    Why would I want to use this Kaspersky software? Does it run on any of my computers? Do I need to buy a new computer?

  13. I recently tried to log into Facebook to try to delete my account since I haven't used it for years. They made me go through a series of photos and name people in the photos. Each page of photos had 3 or 4 separate photos who were all supposed to be the same person for me to identify. Unfortunately, most of the time, the people in the photos were different... very different... children and dogs or completely different people (often of different sexes).
    Complete fail. I wasn't able to log in. No loss.

    I've had a car with a data connection and streaming built in for the past three years. I never listen to the radio. I do have a few radio stations I listen to over the data stream but they are all in distant cities and I couldn't receive their FM broadcasts even if I wanted. Most of the time I just listen to various streaming music channels. It's much more reliable than radio reception. No noise. Doesn't drop out.

    True. Lots of people would like to come the US legally. Unfortunately, the US has many arbitrary restrictions on immigration so most of the people who would like to come are prohibited.
    However, companies still want to hire immigrants to do all of the low wage work so they hire immigrants and don't ask too many questions about their legal status. The problem really boils down to companies breaking the law.

    I don't think it takes too much imagination to see these as a problem in cities. Good suggestion on "cow tipping". Some people may take this "solution" on their own initiative. Cow tipping and a crowbar could be a new path to unlimited free food.
    I believe that bicycles and skateboards are already banned in congested areas. Strollers, walkers, wheelchairs, rolling suitcases, beggars, and street musicians are legitimate pedestrian non-motorized activities (I think we need to give motorized wheelchairs a pass... they do have a real person in charge.)

    I think the homeless would appreciate free deliveries of food from passing robots. Unfortunately, the robot pictured in the article looks like it would be difficult to get into without a crowbar. Probably need to outlaw crowbars.

    Having a bunch of motorized wheeled vehicles driving around on the sidewalks is a bad idea. Even if they don't hit anyone, they will create congestion and confusion.
    Confine them to the streets.
