  1. PSP is a grand slam for Sony on PSP Battery Journal · · Score: 2, Interesting

i got one in Shinjuku on launch day and played Ridge Racers for a solid 4 hours and some time just dinking around before the battery crapped out. i'm perfectly satisfied with that performance. i see a lot of PSP bashing from people that don't even have one. i think that once you have one in your hands, you'll whistle a different tune. i like the DS, but the PSP experience is light years ahead of the DS experience.

  4. Re:Palm is a sinking ship on Palm PDA Roundup · · Score: 1

I disagree. The low-end business electronic organizers are nothing more than commodity today and there are a zillion vendors that offer more for less and on the high-end, PocketPCs are eating their lunch. That leaves everything in between and now that Dell has emerged in that area - it's over. I had three models of Palms before I just got tired of paying premium prices for PDAs that were rapidly falling behind the industry in terms of innovation and charging pocket computer prices. It's the classic case of market leader complacency. BTW, my Palms crashed on occasion, too. And my iPAQ crashes with equal or less frequency. "5 resets a day" (?)Um, right...

  5. Palm is a sinking ship on Palm PDA Roundup · · Score: 3, Insightful

Honestly, I don't understand that Palm is still newsworthy. They created some innovative PDAs, but they are about to be gobbled up by all of the PocketPC vendors. The inertia is going to be too much to overcome, especially with Dell now offering a very affordable ($199) PDA that runs circles around anything similarly priced by Palm.

I think the premise is that the majority of users will want the ability to send and receive email and to be able to surf the net. I belive the more a person does the above activities, the more they will want to try other things such as installing new programs or games. Then they will be rudely awakened to the fact that the programs by and large won't install or even be available. When they realize they aren't getting the same user experience as their friends and neighbors, the public outcry will start.

I expect the judge to accept the proposed settlement and be done with it. Microsoft has been complying with the settlement already and that's good. I predict that this decision will spark the beginning of a giant rally in the stock market which will be good for everyone.

  13. good return on investment! on Diamonds - Are They Really Worth the Cost? · · Score: 1

I have a friend at work that was nearly ready to buy his fiance' a small, crap diamond from Fred Meyers' jewelry dept because he said that she was so down-to-earth and practical. He thought that she would value the symbolic gesture of getting the ring more than the ring itself. My boss and I slapped him around a bit and told him that regardless of whether she was materialistic or not, he should consider shopping for her ring at Tiffanys. Tiffanys engagement rings cost at least 1/3 more, but the return on investment would be substantial. Long story short, we talked him into it and she was blown away. She immediately freaked out when she saw the box. For someone that "wasn't materialistic", she sure knew what she had just received. She immediately called her mother and sister and told them that he had proposed with a tiffanys ring. Then she called every last girlfriend she had. The point here is that this is one of the biggest days in a woman's life and whether or not you see see the importance of a diamond to a woman, *she* will. My friend has since gotten married and still gets continuous satisfaction from knowing his wife is so thrilled about her ring that she still stares proudly at it every day. She gets countless compliments on it and she brags about it all the time. Oh yeah, and it didn't hurt his sex life with her either. ;-) Diamonds aren't important to a girl? Pffft. yeah right...
