I very much disliked the series. There is very little that seems to happen in each episode, of course, they're only 5 minutes long. Plus, I'm not a big fan of the animation at all. While I love Samurai Jack, I don't think this particular style suits Star Wars at all, and it doesn't seem to do justice to the Star Wars legacy in my eyes. Then again, neither did Episodes I and II. And the more I watch Clone Wars, the less I like it... I'm starting to get disappointed with Star Wars. I know they can do better.

Clone Wars had at least one extended, cool-looking space battle, something the last two movies have been somewhat lackluster in, IMHO. And never once did it grievously insult my intelligence, as the last two movies, sadly, have done.
So I will buy it when it comes out on DVD for those reasons alone, because there is a small part of me that still wants to like Star Wars despite the many disappointing things done to the franchise since 1999.
I'm starting to get disappointed with Star Wars. I know they can do better.
Why? Out of 5 movies so far, they've had one that was mediocre, one that was really good, and three that sucked ass. How could you conclude that they can do better? The track record isn't that good....
First I thought they were commercials for some upcoming Star Wars cartoon. I lost most of them so.. Then again there was this mega-Toonami weekend which gave me the opportunity to watch all the series. It's pretty frustrating that they are so short. It's also that if you lose one episode, all is lost. They should rather do a full length cartoon.
I think the micro series are rather a marketing thing to test the waters of Star Wars animation, nothing more, nothing less.
Even further, it depends on who you specify by "they." If you consider the writers, Leigh Brackett wrote Empire Strikes Back and died shortly afterwards. Unless we can come up with some new technology that can summon writers from beyond the grave, no future Star Wars movie will ever be comparable to ESB.
(Of course, this wasn't the ONLY reason ESB stood out, but its a major one.)
Well, now that you mention it, why don't we talk about why ESB was so great (and in my opinion is one of the best movies ever made)?;)
First, Star Wars wasn't that great of a movie. But the casting was a bit different. George Lucas lined everyone up and had them all work together, and he chose the group of actors that worked best as a team. That had the result of generating instant chemistry between the leads. This is the casting that essentially chose the actors for ESB. Second, the same set of actors had already been through one movie together, and they were playing familiar but growing characters. It was an opportunity for each actor/actress to personally grow with the movie, and they all took it (regardless of Mark Hamill's plunge into dorkdom). Star Wars also had cutting-edge special effects, and they carried into ESB with many of the techniques being perfected. It was a couple of movies that essentially defined where the special effects industry would go throughout the '80s. This is all ignoring the basic story, which was actually only pretty good. The direction, though, was great (Lucas didn't direct it). All in all, ESB was very well-put together from the ground up, and since it drew on previous experience, they were able to grow almost everything they did. There's very little way it could have been a bad movie, in fact.
Now let's look at Attack of the Clones, the sister movie to ESB.
First, the Phantom Menace was made using only already known special effects techniques. They didn't do their cutting edge stuff until Attack of the Clones. Casting was based more or less on actor/role, and *not* the team-oriented casting that was done for the original star wars. So there isn't enough chemistry on the scene. Direction and story both come from George Lucas himself. Lucas' biggest strength seems to be to tell people the work isn't "good enough", but if you leave him to do the work himself, it always sucks. So anyway, the story itself isn't as good because Lucas is writing all of it (he's offloading screenplay, I think). Most of the characters die in the first movie, or otherwise don't move on the second (or are already well-established characters, like Yoda and Obi-wan. Obi-Wan shouldn't be treated as a well-established character, though, but he is. There's also 3PO and R2D2 that are well-established already). And there's the huge gap in Anakin's age, meaning that while his character moves on and grows, the actor must be replaced completely.
So, for attack of the clones, they don't get to reuse much of Phantom Menace. They are re-using various plot devices from the original series, which kinda sucks. Further, it sucks that Quai-Gon isn't making the spectral appearances we were so fond of Obi-Wan for making. They basically built the whole movie from scratch, and rather than offload as much of the movie as possible to other people, Lucas micromanaged all aspects of production. There's no 'team' working on it, there is only Lucas. See, power passes from God to George.
Don't get me wrong, Attack of the Clones is very well put-together. It's an awesome movie, and I really like it. But its a movie that easily doesn't live up to it's position in the series, and it must be compared to ESB because it occupies the same position as ESB. If it were a freshman attempt in the series, it would really really rock. But as the sophomore attempt, it's a pretty sucky movie.
I've got to say, since Episode 1 and 2's massive failure in the eyes of many geeks, and most of the press (despite my love of both movies), the press surrounding the Clone Wars and the opinions I've heard have been tremendous, to say the least. I have to say of the few episodes of Clone Wars I've seen I didn't think much of it. The animation I'm not really concerned about but I'm guessing they did it to save money rather tha any artistic reason. But my biggest problem with with the actual content. I wasn't excited by their action sequences, nor could I care about the characters or feel their emotion, in general I just couldn't find any of it mildly interesting. Perhaps you were able to get something out of them and I'm glad for it but for me it fealt like episodes 1&2 without the good action sequences and with somewhat worse writing. You're right, it's a very unfair comparison. Clone Wars would have been so much better if it was 3 minutes long and had very little dialogue.
but at least they didn't ruin it by adding crappy dialogue!
Having sat thru the whole 11 mini eps again it is really close to a "Star Wars" feel. A few things are too "Samauri Jack" particularly some of the architecture, but that's part of Genndy's feel for the piece.
I still think that for over all "Star Wars experience" the Clone Wars mini-eps hit closer to home than George's own stuff. I'd love to see Genndy do something like Dark Empire...he's somebody who could do it justice!!
I don't quite understand the animosity towards the prequels on/. either. Although I think I might have been close to the mark here.
Personally, I think the prequels tell an excellent story. Of course there's going to be wooden acting & some crappy dialog; so did the original trilogy!!! I agree that while TPM was far from perfect (and even farther off than the expectations for it), it did a good job of setting the stage for things to come. What I can't understand is how down the/. crowd is on AOTC. This site is very hostile towards any SW film that isn't ESB, so don't think that the geeks here are a representative of the SW geek population as a whole. After the film was released, almost every fan site poll I read showed that it placed a strong second as the fan-favorite of the whole franchise (just under ESB, of course). Yeah, you've got to endure five minutes of "I don't like sand" scenes, but beyond that, you have a Fantastic film. Seriously, if I have to see one more "George-Lucas-sucks-and-has-no-talent-and-should-b e shot" post modded up to +5, the Poodoo's gonna hit the fan!

Apples and Oranges maybe, but it sort of highlights the problem with the first two movies. Lucas is trying to tell us everything through dialog instead of allowing the movie to show us what's going on. The cartoon shows Lucas what he's stopped doing.
Examples: "Master, look: destroyers." (two destroyer droids rumble down the trade federation ship, as if we couldn't see them) "It's a standoff. Let's go."
We're not that dumb, George. We could figure all of this out. Bad exposition. A teacher friend of mine uses this sequence as an example of how a story should not be told.
What if you just dont like apples? The point is that if you compare Clone Wars to other TV shows you might not like it. You also might not like the SW movies when compaired to other movies. That doesn't mean you dont like movies. Personally i dont watch any tv so although this show might be great im not gunna watch it. I do however not like the new SW movies.
I have seen every episode and they were very entertaining. I would have considering myself a Star Wars fanatic until the last two movies have kind of let me down.
However these cartoons really got me excited again. If the third movie turns out to be as good as the Clone Wars series, I may camp out again...
Admit it. You'll camp out anyway. Just like me, we can't not watch it. Seeing it might make us angry, but not seeing it at midnight of the release is possibly deadly. It's just like any addiction.

Do they feature a horrible actor, awful script, and whiny, annoying characters?
Oh do they. It feels like the writer was constantly going down to Tashi Station to pick up some pooooower conveeeerters.
Darth Vader has to be extra whiny and annoying, because he is only passing half of that on to his offspring. It's called continuity. It's also called writing yourself into a corner.
And it's an intergalactic war with a bunch of Bankers. Bankers. If it isn't clear how a hollywood mogul would feel about Bankers, let's just say Lucas has always pronounced his B's and W's similarly.
The prequals have to be full of annoying, whiny brats doing annoying whiny brat-like things. Otherwise, how would we know it was Star Wars?
And it's an intergalactic war with a bunch of Bankers. Bankers.
Huh? If it's the Intergalactic Banking Clan you're referring to, you're a bit off the mark. When the banking clan joined the Seperatists, there were already thousands of Systems breaking away from the Republic. If you read the original screenplays and scripts
of A New Hope, you'll see that this is an idea that Lucas had from day 1. A galactic democracy falls under the lobbying and corruption of the most financially powerful cartels in the galaxy. The banking clan provides funding, the Techno Union provides the military technology, the Commerce Guild and Trade Federation use their monopolies (and vast personal armies) to starve out systems that don't "play ball". So yes, bankers were involved, but no more or less than they are in our "real life" wars.
Sorry, I had meant that the focus of these cartoons were the bankers specifically. But, when it comes right down to it you do have the seat of power of the Separatists coming entirely from the financial services industry. And the robot guys, whom we hardly ever see.
Either way they're significantly less compelling villains than, say, Fred from Three's Company.

Actually they get to introduce some cool plot points leading up to Ep 3! As far as I know it's sancioned by 'the man' himself. Lucas Licensing has a much better grasp of Star Wars Cannon than Lucas himself does...the licensing group has worked very hard over the last 15 years to closely coordinate all the games, comics, novels, and roleplaying supplaments to make it "look" like it's all cannon. They've upset some authors by too closely reinging in their stories [i.e. Tim Zahn] but most of the authors approve of the coordination and put lots of effort into working together. Again, Lucas is just catching on to the fact that it's a Community...not just HIS anymore.
That's the real reason Ep 1 & 2 sucked...they were an attempt to pick up from Return of the Jedi from 1983, not at all in touch with how Star Wars has "grown up" as the story has been kept alive for 10 years by other authors and fans..

But other than that, I don't dislike him, and I think he adds something to the movie that wouldn't have been there without him, since all the other characters were dry, boring, and very very weak (except Quai-gon and obi-wan in the Phantom Menace, but Obi-Wan has gone straight to hell since then).
And yes, as a matter of fact, I love Ewoks. I like to throw 'em on the smoker, still kicking, and skin 'em when they're still only half-cooked. Then you wrap 'em in foil (they're usually unconscious by now, but if not you can still wrap 'em) and start tanning the skin. just saw all the episodes, they were short but the action seemed good enough. I probably shouldn't watch anymore cause it kind of stinks to have ones imagination ruined by seeing someone elses interpration of the looks;-) One things odd though is that some of the Stars Wars stuff seems inaccurate to the books or previous old movies. Like in the original three movies, Yoda was Obi-wans master but in the new movies it was quin gon(sorry if i didnt spell it right) I really dont get things like that. Episodes II and III seemed to lack a sense of classiness or style to them that made the older ones cool.
The continuity is thin, but it's there, at least with the older movies. Do you remember seeing Yoda instructing all the kids in the classroom, when he says "Obi-wan has lost a planet. How embarrassing."? So, Yoda *did* instruct Obi-Wan. At the same time, we get one of the coolest Jedi ever. In fact, I had high hopes for Windu until he looked Dooku in the eye and all he could say, the fucking dork, was "I don't think so". So Quai-Gon Gin winds up being the coolest Jedi of all time, second only to Darth Vader himself.
As far as continuity with the books, I'm not sure how much Phantom Menace broke it, but the whole Fett thing really irritates me. How can Lucas commission a bunch of books and say "Ok, they're all the real story", wind up with a bunch of authors working their asses off to maintain continuity in the books, and then just turn around and throw it all away?
If Episode 3 doesn't deliver, I say we take the franchise from Lucas, tell him he can't name himself an Artist, that's a title we have to give him, and we're taking that too.
I'm partial to doing it anyway, even if Episode three does deliver.
I personally loved the whole of the elite StormTrooper assault squad episodes. Although they clearly don't stick to the Film's standard trooper proceedure.
For instance, in all of the 10 minutes they were on screen not one of the squad chose to walk into a bulkhead or knock themselves unconcious on a low ceiling - that lack of attention to detail let the series down terribly.;)

The 3 minute episodes. Hands down.
After having obtained a copy of the first season of Clone Wars and watched it all back to back I realized how much fast-forwarding they had to do to make each 3 minute episode entertaining. I for one thought the series was good, if a bit watery on plot (and who can blame them - Lucas isn't likely to give them many plot tidbits with EP3 imminent), but the action was solid and enough to satisfy in a 3-minute format. True SW fans would've liked something more robust I'm sure, but you can't stretch plot over 10 days of 3-minute shorts and expect ppl to be able to soak up deep plotlines.
The Sith initate was cool, the action in the rest of them was pretty spiffy. All I was really looking for out of this was the Star Wars equivalent of a Kung-fu movie - all action, little story. But to my surprise, that one moment in the first season where Anakin and Amidala exchange a look as he takes off for battle displayed more real emotion and caring to me than any of the hollow-acted "love" sequences in Ep2. But then I give Hayden/Natalie the benefit of the doubt and just consider those parts to be stiff and unnatural in EP2 because he's restraining the true evil bastard he wants to be. At least I hope so, if this turns into Dawson's Galaxy at the end I'm gonna be ill.
The 3-minute shorts didn't work for people, this isn't like the early theatres where you HAD to watch the serial shorts to see the movie. People have short attention spans these days and you'd better get everything you wanna say across while the hype waves run high.

If anything, this accident by Lucasfilm shows us why copyrights should have vastly more limited durations, say 20 years, so other people, more able, can embrace and extend the tales they grew up loving, and the market can in turn decide which are worth while.
Has Lucasfilm just let Cartoon Networks use the Star Wars license, or do they include a story George Lucas has actually been involved in? Only milking the cash cow or part of the story? If it's the former, I'll pay as much attention to this as I do to Pokemon.:-P

It was a drawn-out nightmare akin to 'death by a thousand papercuts' but with help I was able to get the code up and running. One bright spot was that Java's syntax is very similar to C of which I have written thousands of and thousands of lines of it using Microsoft Visual C++.
I like programming in the 'programmer is king' environment of C. When done properly, one can code efficient, high-performance software in C.
Not so in Java with its interpretive nature, syntatic verbosity in places, and the way it handholds the programmer by generating compile-time errors that wouldn't occur or appear to the equivalent C compiler.
Java is nice as a teaching programming language like Pascal (which I've used in the distant past) but when you need an industrial strength, high-performance programming language that doesn't attempt to second-guess the programmer, C is hard to beat.

As compensation, we got the first 10 episodes back to back. They're planning to do the same for 11-20 during April.
One thing that pisses me off is that cartoonnetwork.com.au never put the episodes up for streaming.
just saw all the episodes, they were short but the action seemed good enough. I probably shouldn't watch anymore cause it kind of stinks to have ones imagination ruined by seeing someone elses interpration of the looks ;-) One things odd though is that some of the Stars Wars stuff seems inaccurate to the books or previous old movies. Like in the original three movies, Yoda was Obi-wans master but in the new movies it was quin gon(sorry if i didnt spell it right) I really dont get things like that. Episodes II and III seemed to lack a sense of classiness or style to them that made the older ones cool.
I personally loved the whole of the elite StormTrooper assault squad episodes. Although they clearly don't stick to the Film's standard trooper proceedure. For instance, in all of the 10 minutes they were on screen not one of the squad chose to walk into a bulkhead or knock themselves unconcious on a low ceiling - that lack of attention to detail let the series down terribly. ;)
Encore performance of the 1st season will be broadcast on Cartoon Network tonight. At 8:00 PM Pacific and 9:00 PM Pacific

How can it play three hours later in the pacific time zone when it is a cable/satellite channel?
Winter 2010: With Glowing Hearts
It premiered on Bittorrent weeks ago!
I dunno what Darth Vader did to his storm troopers to make them suck so much. These storm troopers are almost like an army totally comprised of elite special forces.
Whoo boy, will there be some two fisting fun there!
I'll swap you quick access to Starwars cartoons for quick access hot Brazilian babes. Deal?:)
And think of Quake 2 the entire time? They even destroy a giant gun that was shooting at the ships...
See anti-slash.org. This post is a repost using anti-slash's db tool to karma whore with. It's the link with the "db gives me easy karma!" description.
Gendy let other guys take over animation and direction of Dexter (which looks horrible now,has different voices and is completely unfunny & dumb)ruining what was a funny and smart cartoon. The original Dexter was like a great homage to old cartoons, especially Hanna-Barbera, and now it's just a name to sell a product. A lot of the Cartoon Cartoons start out edgy and funny like this as well, but then are sold out buy their creator to Cartoon Network and suck afterwards. Samurai Jack was nothing, it wasn't funny it wasn't exciting (because you can only do so much on a kids network) and Clone Wars is just as drab. The Batman cartoon a few years back was better and edgier than either of these creations. Gendy sold his greatest strength and hasn't been the same since.
I'm sure if you had used miles they wouldn't have noticed.
;-)
Try it with me now...
"I'm just over 30 miles north of the border..."
Good! Now we can move on to step 2, using real money...
(Just kidding, of course.
The space unintentionally left unblank.
anyone got a bit torrent link?
Maybe it is the three minute limit that forces Gendy to tell it well, and cleanly.
But stack those together and you've got a DAMN solid half hour of star wars. He took even the overdone teen angst and made it dramatic, and menacing.
The Storm Troopers aren't a bunch of Jerry Lewis clones with mime based bodyarmour. He knows how to establish villians, and heroes alike.
After the abortion of the first two prequels, and quite frankly the last of the original series, Gendy reminds us that there is some story worth telling still. In the hands of people with a plan beyond, "I know! Lord of The Rings in Space! But instead of Orcs we'll have Gamorians. BRILLIANT!" Star Wars is pretty special.
If anything, this accident by Lucasfilm shows us why copyrights should have vastly more limited durations, say 20 years, so other people, more able, can embrace and extend the tales they grew up loving, and the market can in turn decide which are worth while.
Well, is it? :-)
:-P
Has Lucasfilm just let Cartoon Networks use the Star Wars license, or do they include a story George Lucas has actually been involved in? Only milking the cash cow or part of the story? If it's the former, I'll pay as much attention to this as I do to Pokemon.

Anyone know if Spumco is dead???
With animators/directors like Genndy Tartakovsky, why isn't John Kricfalusi making a comeback? Looks like cartoon network would be a good home for him. Anyone know???
All the info I Googled re. Spumco comes up with crap that's years old! Is this all that's left? :-(~
Just because it gets posted on anti-slash.org doesn't mean its a troll.
How do you know its not someone trying to discredit someone else by making them think its a troll post?
Moron.
Lame Java joke I know.
James Gosling created a somewhat viable programming language in an effort to have code that you 'write once, run everywhere'.
My experience with Java has been problematic at best. I was in a programming situation a few years ago where I had to write a piece of some mission-critical code in Java!
