if you're buying a Dell or Gateway machine, they don't let you take Windows off, but if you want to run a non-Windows box, buy a non-Dell/Gateway machine. Simple.
Once you buy it, they could care less what you do with it. However, they get bulk rates from MS based on the assumption that they will be selling WinXP on every new machine. Thus, its cheaper for them to sell a copy of WinXP with every machine than do it on a per-computer basis.
Wings kicked butt. Didnt they make some gangster game about Chicago? That one kicked butt too, but I didnt finish it. Got whacked trying to rub out one of the other bosses near the end...
While it's been repeated a million times, it still needs to be said: Anti-piracy is about the average Joe, not dedicated pirates
Actually, Anti-piracy is the opposite. It isnt about Frank in accounting spinning off a copy of Warcraft 3 for Don in marketting. Its about the 1000 copies that are being sold in a mall in Poland or Saigon. When you have actual stores selling illegal copies for $1, how is your $30 boxed product going to compete?
A few years ago I was interested in learning Perl. However, job requirements took me another way, and I ended up going thru KiXtart, INF files, Active Directory, and a whole lot of other things.
My question, however, is what are the strengths of Perl? And is it well suited for manipulating information in a database?
well, its good for me that neither I nor the rest of the world cares about your stupid-ass, Im-so-important opinions.
Attitudes like your are the reason why the US is losing ground. We may as well give up on IT, and move on to biotech or nanotech, because this battle seems lost. Just like cars, electronics, etc., we innovate and the rest of the world ends up picking up the slack.
Great, just what we need: more bureaucratic BS to deal with before trying to implimenting an intelligent solution.
Congratulations, guys, you got your wish. 'Open Source' is now a political buzz word, used by legislators who have no idea what it is, except "all the kids seem to be talking about it".
So you are telling me that Rocky never became champion, am I correct? If I remember correctly, there are what, five Rocky movies? Just because you cant remember past the events in the first film doesnt mean that its not in the popular lexicon.
Please try and give just a bit of thought before clicking that "Submit" button on the bottom. The world hardly cares what your opinion of the series is.
I dont think it has to do with the econony, I think its more of a tendency to rest on our collective laurels.
I always say American IT people are the best in the world, but there are definitely other people trying to catch up. And just like Rocky, its always the person that is hungrier that will overcome and eventually become the new champion.
I think the problem isnt an unwillingness to spend money. The not spending money is a symptom of having non-technical people making technical decisions. Its a reliance on MBAs and CNAs as company decision-makers.
Since they are modulating light in the visible spectrum, it seems unlikely there can even be any regulation regarding it. Is the government going to regulate your usage of the color red?
It would technically be akin to regulating the output of a flashlight beam, or one of those wall projectors that displays a clock or company logo. Unless the beam is somehow strengthened to where it can burn out your cornea, or brainwash you into a zombie, regulation seems unlikely.
while this may be good for Apple, I hope they figure out how to deal with all these kids that are having, shall we say, an alternate lifestyle thrust upon them.
At least if you have your kid sleep with Michael Jackson you get a few million out of it. Just getting an Apple laptop out of it seems like selling yourself (well, your kid) kind of short.
I hope this brings some fresh ideas to the arcades. Im getting tired of there being nothing there except "Virtua Cop Ad Nauseum" and "Mortal Kombat XXII".
Unless you want to spend a quarter per minute and memorize three pages of joystick combinations, it seems like there is nothing to do in arcades anymore; I went to one in a mall about four months ago, just to see if there was anything interesting. Alas, there was no fun to be had.
You can do it in Government. I am doing it for one right now.
I will admit, a lot of the challenge in working here is that there was practically NO networking infrastructure before I came here, but its cool. Its not often you get to set things up from scratch.
Its slower than doing it at a new place, obviously, because there are hundreds of users already using the network, but its fun (if you are a networking geek, anyway). You just need to plan this stuff out in advance, and inform people before you make any changes.
A funny thing- people started freaking out when I implimented logon scripts =) Problem was, I just started and didnt see it as a big deal, and thus didnt inform anyone. Needless to say, when you have people that were used to email being unavailable a few days a week, when you start fixing things and making changes its like you are throwing them off their routine... and of course they complained about the two little black screens that flash on the screen. Users- gotta love em.
Just another of the hidded costs of spam. Most people who go in the internet just take in stride the fact that 80-90% of mail received will be junk. However, for some grandmother who started using the net, this will all be new to her.
I say the anti-spam forces take this as another reason to get legislators to make UCE illegal.
maybe you should move to zimbabwe, north korea, or some other country where your morality will be lauded by the government.
See, the great thing about America is you are allowed to express your viewpoint. The bad thing is that many time the popular viewpoint is just plain wrong. Fortunately, our leaders have access to all the real information, the history of what goes on, etc.
Honestly, do you think the US is going to make Iraq our 51st state? Thats just plain stupid. We didnt conquer Japan or Germany either; they seem to be doing ok...

So its not really a tax, its just added value.

Windows 95- $17. Can you afford that? http://www.pricewatch.com/1/182/1317-1.htm
Another interesting tidbit, Hanssen was a big fan of "The Man Who was Thursday". In fact, that was pretty much what got him busted.

As it is, it made a nice hand-me-down to the family. Still useful, tho, because it can plug into a serial port.
Sadly, as good a product as they make, Palms suffer from competing against their old product more than anything else.
I heard that they put code in Windows XP that will drink your last beer, leave the toilet seat up, and sleep with your wife while you are at work.
BTW, you havent been entertaining since you left WCW
ya, Jupiters 'solar' system seems to be a little lacking the 'solar' component.

Wow! this will add a whole new dimention to karma whoring! get the jump on all the other geeks!

WTF? You guys let me down...

Oh well. Fortune passes everywhere.
Why would having a bad haircut cause a data interruption?

how could this happen?!?!?
I say the anti-spam forces take this as another reason to get legislators to make UCE illegal.
It should have read "NOT rise high enough".
