Saddam Hussein built the "Mother of all Battles" mosque, now called "Mother of all Cities." It was supposed to have an artificial lake and an island with the shape of his thumb - so big "God could see it from space." Don't know if they actually got around to making the island, tho the mosque is there.
What? Was he planning to hitchhike to heaven?
Sure. He knows that he won't get there the official way.
Well, it's a rotating sphere, which singles out a certain axis in space. Therefore there are only two sensible directions to define "up". If using the ordinary definition of angular momentum, and declaring the direction it points to as "up", we get the usual up direction. Of course one could also use "left handed" coordinate systems, in which case the south direction would be "up".
Note that this definition fixes the "up" direction of any rotating object in the universe.
In 2000 years people will have violent disputes whether this was a message to god, or a message to extraterrestrial visitors, saying "welcome" or "land here". And some will say the extraterrestrials were the gods.
"Adding NAND flash memory to a PC does more for performance than DRAM and costs less" isn't a statement about markets. It's a statement about how the use of certain technologies affect the overall performance of a PC.
You mustn't be using windows. The viruses writing to the system partition will wear it out quite quickly.
In that case, it should be considered a feature. You are required to regularly re-install a clean system. Moreover, you've got an incentive to protect yourself against viruses.
Maybe one way to improve SSD lifetime could be for the SSD to have an internal RAM cache. Writes would first go into cache RAM, and only get written to flash when either the OS explicitly requests it, or when it wasn't changed for some time (or some other indicator that there's no change to expect soon), or of course if cache is exhausted and you need to load another block there. Of course, you'd also have to store enough energy somewhere in the SSD that on power failure, the whole content of the cache could be written back to flash.
Well, I'd put the system on SSD, and my own data at HD. Having the system on SSD speeds up things most, because for typical uses of the computer, user data is rarely the bottleneck. Moreover, the system partition is not written to very often, thus it should take longer to wear out. Finally, if the system partition has a total failure, you don't even think about rescuing data from it anyway; you just install the system again on the replacement disk.
You appear in a vast land, overlooked by a prominent golden Lord Juan statue and completely paved over with dead bodies to a great depth. You see a lone vulture in the sky. The stench overcomes you. You are dead. Please transfer this thumb drive to the next player.
A white roof would raise my heating costs in the winter.
Do you actually have enough sun in the winter that a black roof would help? Remember, a black body is not only an excellent absorber, but also an excellent emitter. That is, as long as the sun shines on it, the black roof will help heating your house. As soon as the sun goes away, the black roof will cool down your house.

Isn't pretty much everything visible from space?
The center of the earth isn't.

However the text at that link also says that this is true only for the U.S., and in some places in Europe the typeface is copyrightable.
Of course in this case, neither the U.S. nor the European right is relevant. But who knows the relevant Arabic copyright laws?
Well, he wrote it for the Australians.
I think he'd hesitate to write "was here" :-)
But using the Google provided scale, the text is only one mile wide, not two. Also the height is only 500m.
Well, one thing I note is that he didn't write it in Arabic letters ...

But did the Chinese copy of Diney know about it? :-)
One more hint at that introducing the search box was an error. After all, you can do everything from the URL bar which you can do from there.
A POST is in no way more secure than a GET.
The flaw was to trust user input, plain and simple.

Oops, this post should have been a reply to that comment.

Might be related to this.

That's called schism. Don't do it. You'll incite large religious wars!
AD 3100. You place the thumb drive in your PC.

Oh look, we are playing it now.
Indeed.
You don't want your qubits to fuck. When they fuck, they don't work.
But maybe that's why we have so much trouble with getting more qubits. If we let them fuck, maybe they'll multiply by themselves!
Shouldn't that be "paint African-American roofs white?"
You'd think our first black president would know better
Bill Clinton was the first black president? Strange, I never noticed that he's black. :-)

But I guess at night white roads would be much better than black. Exactly because they reflect more light into the eyes of the driver.
If your courses were that way that you couldn't take adequate notes, I feel sorry for you. My notes are not autogun-speed scrawled.
