And it's not even written for our audience. I could see a "top ten keyboard shortcuts users don't know (but should)" or a "comparison of undo buttons between every program" (I can never remember the Emacs one... it's ctrl-x u, right?).
That would be a good idea for a story submission.
Normally I don't say this, but maybe Slashdot really is starting to go downhill...
You must be new here. I'm joking with this one since I'm not one of "those guys".
You must be new here. (I'm only saying this try to get some of the 4 digits to show up)
I was thinking the same thing to tell the truth...usually I dismiss those "There are no real nerds on Slashdot, it's not the same, it's turned into reddit" guys... but on this non-story... I sort of agree.
Tons of avatar customization so you can make yourselves look like yourselves...or not, as one prefers. More places to go and things to do than you can shake a stick at, not counting making your own fun by building, scripting or hosting your own events. Built in voice chat and media playback. Available for Windows, OSX and Linux
I think FreeRealms would be a better MMO choice than WoW since it's more "casual" and family oriented. Lots of avatar customization, built-in minigames of all sorts, pets, rides and women/girls are welcome.
Also, the novelization of Space Seed explicitly mentions Chekhov as being on night watch.
It did? Lost my Blish novelizations years ago.
Them were the days, no internet for nerds to form communities around. Their were a few magazines, the ST novelizations, some photonovels and the fanzines...for those who actually knew about those.
Oh god the load times! The PS2's fast-loading feature does help with that, though texture-smoothing doesn't. The PS3's virtual memory card feature also helps...though you get no help with load times.
Me, I've got the triangle and I'm not currently transitioning, so I look like a short slightly chubby nerdy guy with a ponytail. But yeah, lots of trans-people (Including some crossdressers) look gender variant in "guy-mode".
I get "sirred" now more than I did because I toned down the "slip sliding into androgyny" for work purposes.
I've been female pronouned at drivers license renewal, while shopping, even on the phone which I consider hilarious because to me I don't sound "girly" at all. Though I've been told I tend to use a more female style enunciation and word choices.
And yes, it happened a LOT more when I was a young slip of a thing.
You did know that the guy who wrote the US Military's first training manual during the Revolutionary War was Gay-er than a Rainbow Unicorn at a Pride Parade, right?
The government doesn't consider being transgendered in and of itself a security risk. However...if one is in the military where they still kick out transpeople who admit it...and then one has to keep the secret...well then that might be something to think about.
PAIS is under-diagnosed, because it doesn't get routinely tested for unless there are issues. It is believed to be one relatively common cause of male fertility issues. PAIS is only one of many IS conditions...so the incidence of IS folks is higher.
CAIS on the other hand is often detected when a girl doesn't menstruate.
The funny thing is, transpeople themselves are somewhat divided on the issue.
The consensus among us seems to be:
1. If treatment was started before prison, that should be continued.
2. MTF Transpeople should probably be segregated from the men's population... that would mean women's prison for some of those into their transitions who were living as female before. For others..some kind of separate facility.
No offense taken. Yep I'm trans. I was sort of thinking the same thing. In part because I knew this discussion would become a clusterfuck of geek misogyny, rape jokes, and everything else that comes with the Slashdot boy's club.
And also because I first heard that Manning was trans...last year, this isn't news, per se. There are some who say that it speaks to motivations. That one of the reasons Manning did the leak was because of how shitty transpeople are treated in the military. (It's better for teh gays, but not for teh trans.)
Heck, if even, god forbid, RMS was to announce he was a TS. I don't think that would necessarily belong on Slashdot. I think I need some brain-bleach after imagining that. Maybe if I imagine Natalie Portman, Petrified with hot grits.
My understanding is that most transgendered people retain their straight/gay preference in accordance with their current body.
So a MTF TG that fancied women will start to fancy men.
Umm.... No. Usually they stay attracted to the sex they were attracted to in the "before time". Though there are some instances of changing desires in "some". So there's Lesbian MTF's, MTF's attracted to men (and thusly "straight"), bisexual MTFs, and even asexual MTF's.
I refuse to buy a game that can be taken away from me at any point with no recourse. I still play 30 year old games on my Tandy, and I hope to be around to play games from today 30 years from now.
I can understand your point...but Blizzard had to do "something" about the discrepancy between Diablo 1 and 2 accounts/games on Battlenet and the actual number of copies sold.
Since they had experience with WoW...they went for a required online connection.
In other words, the real blame is on the pirates in.br,.hu,.hr,.ru,.ua,.ro,.pl,.cn,.th, and their enablers in.fi and.se.
in D2 you had an online char and an offline char. there is no reason they cant do the same with D3.
Well they "could" do it, but really don't want to. If they just sold the game in the US, Canada, the UK, Japan, and Korea they probably would...it's the rest of the world that's the problem.
They probably saw the vast differential between Battle.net accounts and game sales...decided to "try" to fix the problem because they simply can't trust PC gamers outside of a few counties to not pirate the thing in massive numbers.
Console gamers they can trust more, so allow the consoles to have offline multiplayer.
In other words, blame..br,.hu,.hr,.ru,.ua,.ro,.pl,.cn,.th, and their enablers in.fi and.se
If those people actually bought content/media rather than pirate everything they can...then perhaps blizzard would have treated D3 like D2.
D1 on the Psone allows you to do that in both Single and Multiplayer. No need to trick the game by starting a Multiplayer game then starting in single.
If thedy got rid of the RMAH and all the game mechanics to steer players to it (i.e. crap loot, insanely hard mobs towards the end of Hell and Inferno unless you buy RMAH gear), I'd jump right back on it.
Your wish is Blizzard's command because the console versions have no RMAH
Yes it does! I bow before your Slashdot grognardness.
I joined in either 1999 or 2000 can't remember which.

You must be new here, to have not used a "You must be new here" to someone with a UID with more digits than yours (even in friendly jest)
Admittedly that's about the only thing I've been able to use my 6 digit UID for...because I am relatively new here.
You must be new here. (I'm only saying this try to get some of the 4 digits to show up)

Yes, SL is what one makes of it, but your link is incorrect, no dash between second and life

Good game though, one of my favorites.

Those make the worst of Slashdot look like fucking poetry.
Yeah, even when it's about the trans, Slashdot isn't as bad as the news sites.
When links to transgender related news are posted in trans-related forums one thing that is often said is "Triggery comments/don't read the comments"
You did know that the guy who wrote the US Military's first training manual during the Revolutionary War was Gay-er than a Rainbow Unicorn at a Pride Parade, right?
Gender reassignment surgery helps someone "be who they are", and works very well.
Hell, Magnus Hirschfeld figured out a century ago that the best treatment was for transpeople to live as their preferred gender.
The government doesn't consider being transgendered in and of itself a security risk. However...if one is in the military where they still kick out transpeople who admit it...and then one has to keep the secret...well then that might be something to think about.
He didn't have a sex change operation, therefore he is still a he.
Usually the pronoun changes come looong before the surgery, during the RLE/RLT (Real Life Test), when one lives full time as the target gender.

Yeah, they aren't doing that.
Actually, they did do that, in the console versions.
That's what the PS3 version is for.
