While that tendency has always existed to a certain extent, it's being encouraged more these days. The Tony's once had viewership of 20 million...back in 1974. Now it's around 6 - 8 million. I'm old enough to remember when TV in general made a big deal about Andrea McArdle being cast as Annie in the Broadway musical.
It's even affected PBS. No more Classical music, not even the "Flying dutchman", Shakespeare, or I Claudius, or Nutcracker production at Christmas...it's Red Green, and Dr. Who.
When I was a kid we had a 24-inch low-def tube with two front-facing speakers.
Dagnabbit spoiled whippersnappers. Criminy, I can remember when back in good ol days when 21" and ONE speaker was the standard, and we liked it by gum. Now get off my lawn.
It wasn't that long ago that 27" was the standard with 32-36 being the deluxe size. I've joked that the housing bubble was caused by people buying houses larger than they could afford just to have a living room large enough for their oversized TV.

Fewer and fewer every year. Some older phones and some "Feature" phones can do it. I personally had a Razr V3xx before I got my first Android phone, even it could do bluetooth file transfer.

Sony on the other hand designed a system that ties it to the account and requires a check every time even If its the home ps4.
No it doesn't. not on the PS4 you have set as your "primary" PS4. Unless you have multiple PS4's, or try to play one of your games one someone elses PS4. In that case, it does check.

The issue I had if you must know is that 95% of the criticism leveled at Sarkesian-- such as her generally unprofessional (ie intimate) relationships with reviewers of her games, her apparent pathological lying, and the fact that she makes unremarkable games

SCEA's PSN status page showed PSN being OFFLINE, no if's and's or but's. Perhaps SCEE forgot to update their page?
When Steam client fails to connect to the server it will (after a long timeout) let you play your games in its offline mode.
That's how it works on the PS3/PS4....but...there are games that are online only and don't have offline modes. Destiny, DCUO, FFXIV
Free only on Sony machines that aren't the PS4. PS4 requires* PS+ for multiplayer.
